Ulster Bank  Limited Edition Saver Account
4.50% /4.41% interest paid monthly, no withdrawal restrictions.
Ulster Bank  Limited Edition Saver Account 4.50%; £5k Min For Rate; (01/10)
including a 2.75% fixed bonus for a year.

@soulsaver - I had a long online chat with the Applications manager at Ulster and they confirmed that it is a requirement to have a current account with Ulster in order to open this savings account - as it was originally for their Loyalty Saver too.
Our processing team has confirmed that it is mandatory to have a current account in order to apply for the Limited Edition Saver Account.

they said they will be updating the website to reflect this - I mentioned it being listed on Moneyfacts and that they may be getting a lot of enquiries about this account!

Noted, thanks @janusd What prompted the chat, the application process wouldn't let you proceed?

No, you don't need to be an existing customer to open a Limited Edition Saver account. But it’s best to compare all your options when looking for a high interest savings account.

This is what they say on their page.

Those of us who have spoken to Ulster have been told that this is incorrect and they are planning to change the information on the website. They all have said that a current account is required.
You don't need to be an existing customer, but you will have to open a new current account.
I'd argue that opening the current account before opening the savings account makes you an existing customer so you do have to be an existing customer before opening the savings account.
As there was no date specified for being an existing customer ( as there sometimes are for exclusive savings products) I would maintain.. you don't need to be an existing customer.
We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.  :)

FWIW I'm in agreement with you on this one @BestSeagull.

My logic is that all Ulster bank current account customers are existing customers, thus if you need to hold an Ulster bank current account to open an EA account then you must be an existing customer (specifically one who holds a current account) to be eligible for the EA account.

Won't you need a current account with Ulster bank to withdraw funds ?

Nothing I can see in T&C's to require this

    Can I withdraw money?

Yes, you can withdraw your money at any time.

The quickest way to access your funds would be to download our mobile app and register for biometrics, you'll then get access to higher payment limits.

    You can withdraw money:

    • Using the mobile app. You'll get access to higher payment limits if you're registered for biometric approval. This will mean you'll be able to make payments of more than £750. (selected devices only, criteria apply).
    • Using Anytime Banking. You'll need to order a card reader and an Anytime Banking card and PIN to make payments securely.
    • By Telephone Banking. For payments over £100,000 you can phone Premier 24. You will need a debit card for security. If you don’t have one you will need to order a card reader and an Anytime Banking card and PIN in advance.

Remember, if you order a card reader, you'll need to enable it when it arrives to make payments online. Once you are set up, you can withdraw however you like.

If you live in Northern Ireland, you can also withdraw money in branch in addition to online and mobile. Please note there are daily limits on the amount that can be transferred from your account online, through telephone or mobile banking. We may also limit the amount of cash you can withdraw or deposit in branch. Information on the current daily limits is available on our website or by contacting Anytime Phone Banking.

If you don't live in Northern Ireland, you can withdraw money through the mobile app, online or over the phone.

yes - that and the previous post...

if you apply in the app, you still get asked whether you have a current account with two possible choices - if you say no, it says a CA us required and invites you to open; if you say yes, it checks whether you have or not (as I am logged in) and if you haven't, says that you need one.

if you apply online but not logged in, you still get asked the same CA question - but you now have 3 options... a) Yes I have; b) No, but I have other Ulster accounts or c) No, I am a new customer.

the first two options prevent the application from continuing, but if you choose the third option (new customer), then you can seemingly apply for the account without the need to have a current account. I tested all the steps with false info, and you can setup internet banking for the account and then towards the end, you open the Limited Edition Saver itself - absolutely no mention on requiring a current account... I cancelled at the last stage, but have no doubt it would have worked if submitted... only reason for not following through with that test was that I am in the same boat as @BestSeagull and applied for the current account earlier today.

I read all the terms closely before posting - there is no CA requirement in there - hence chasing the management to try and find out if the docs are wrong, or the application process.

still not available in the app, but I just logged in online and it allowed me to open one... got the email confirming account details for the LES, so should appear in the app and online tomorrow... with the new current account appearing the day after!

I already have their Loyalty Saver and I can transfer funds to my main bank account - which is not with Natwest or Ulster.

Anyone know if the fixed bonus ends 12 months after account opening or on 18 Nov 26 (date stated on the product page)?
