Thanks again guys, weirdly, I'm at the same festival I was at last year when he first complained to me.  Only this time I'm trying not to let it upset me.

I really feel for you Mandy and wish you all the best.

I think, maybe, a single response to state that you will not engage in further correspondence and then leave it at that.
If the correspondence persists after that point, then maybe report to the Police as harassment as suggested.

Definitely report to the police. He is harassing you and this is illegal.

So sorry to hear this but enjoy the fact they are digging themselves into a massive hole.

I can't wait for the day they decide to sell and they get 500 time wasters calling, your MSE friends!

Well, it's likely he'll fail with a complaint to the courts as he didn't turn up so should have sent a representative.  if he kicks off another case then you might argue it's vexatious litigation which is quite serious - although whether it meets the bar of Civil Restraint Order is another matter - but potentially he'll end up on the 'list'...

My first thought was to threaten to send him a bill for the 2 court dates he didn't show up for.

But the best thing to do is probably just ignore him. Don't block him, because you want to keep the evidence of any harassment, but don't respond in any way that isn't via the courts. I can't see him having any success getting the same thing to court again after failing to show up before.

If he is crazy enough to try and take you to court again I think it's time for you to put in a counter claim.  Work out how much time you have taken up in responding to him, preparing your case and attending court (count that as a full day and include your 3rd attendance).  Work out how many hours then cost that up at £12.21 (Minimum wage) add in any travel costs and any other expenses (printing, postage etc) then add a notional £100 for your distress.

Make sure you itemise everything to show you are being very reasonable and this will get the judge far more likely to award it.  You'll also get the cost of filling your counter claim.  If he fails to turn up again he'll get a summary judgement.

It's about time he was taught a lesson.

This is the UK, not USA. A counterclaim must be submitted at the same time as the original defence and is limited to out of pocket expenses.

You can't claim any form of compensation for distress etc.

That's what happens to 28 year old van especially when not driven (about 1500 miles in the year)
Mileage history is a bit odd. Has it had 2 reconditioned engines perhaps?
