Well at the end of week 1, because I won't be going to any shops today, I have spent the grand old total of £ 29.68 and I am really proud of myself as I have only been to the shops twice (and one trip involved only buying milk).

Like the idea of buying full cream milk and diluting it - as we used £44 worth last month.

Off to update my siggie now ....

    Hello everyone

I have been without my internet connection for 5 days  ...although i have put the time to good use -sorting out my gardening stuff, and starting to plant a few of my veggies ready to save me more money :p
Have got my onions allready under way and lots of peas starting off in peat pots and some potatoes started :D

Well im off to a good start :T .... I decided to break my €200 into 4 x €50 .... and i got through the 1st week without spending 1cent :j -so thatt €50 will be banked at the end of the month:D
I have been shopping today for my "week 2" supplies and spent the princely sum of €10.86 about £8.15 on:-
    1. 3 cartons of milk
    2. 2 blocks yeast
    3. salt
    4. 2.5kg potatoes
    5. cucumber
    6. cottage cheese
    7. 1kg apples
    8. cherry tomatoes
    9. 3 peppers
    10. 250g butter
    11. 300g cream cheese with herbs
    12. iceberg
    13. 2kg red onions
That, along with what i allready have in (gammon, prawns, cheese, tuna etc)will keep us going for the next week ....

We are having home boiled gammon with salad and potatoes for dinner, there is a loaf of bread about to come out of the oven, and the stock from the gammon is going to become a pot of soup for hubbies flask :T

I am becoming obsessed with saving every penny i can.... i have just got full fat milk as we usually have skimmed... well skimmed is 66c a litre and full fat is 73c a litre so im going to let the ful milk down so it will end up costing 37c a litre :D
and the yeast i get is in 52g blocks that i normally half (being lazy) now i get 3 loaves out of a block -with no difference in the end result :T -I know its only a few cents..but they will all add up as you have shown me :D

well i had better get off and update my signature ... hope everyone is doing well :D

Bit of an unscheduled stop at the shops today as I have a friend coming over tonight and needed cake :D ....normally wouldn't DREAM of buying cake, I love to bake, but am pushed for time today

Anyway, Sainsbury's had some offer on for stuff we use, including loads of half price cheese, so I stocked up a bit and spent £8.48 BUT I got:

big piece stilton, reduced to 60p - (had some broccoli left over anyway, so am making broccoli and stilton soup  )
small mature cheddar truckle - £1 - for freezer
large applewood truckle - £2 - for freezer
8 bottles lucozade sport for DH at £1.42 for 4
Taste the difference lemon drizzle cake reduced to 92p:drool:
plus a pint of milk and some lasagnes sheets!

Didn't I do well? Chuffed to bits.

BTW - Mike D, Frog master extraodinaire.........how is Mrs Mike (otherwise known as the frog princess)'s arm now?

Thanks to Mrsmcawber, Sweetpea, Egon and Catralense for the 48p bread flour info. I've just stocked up on a load to replace the flour I had in the cupboard that when I went to use had little white caterpillars all over the packets  EEEEUWWW  Needless to say the cupboard is gleaming and disinfected to within an inch of its life :D

Seems like months since we had a phone or internet connection...four and half days to be exact but I was so upset!

So far I have spent €101.61 of my January "allowance" leaving me €218.39 for the rest of the month, shouldn't have to shop before this day week at earliest, except maybe for milk.

  • just seen this - ok to join now?

i'm guiding my mum thru this whole money saving thing for her new year's resolution, and while she has all the serious banky stuff to do i'm on shopping duty. we were spending about £80 a week we reckon, but are giving it a go at £50 a week for the month, to see how we go.

so budget from now would be.... £160 to the end of the month?
