ok, have totalled up my receipts for this month so far and have spent £45.33 out of my £120 for the month
hhmmmm... you can see that i am new to grocery challenges, although i have made a half hearted attempt once before on another board. That got complicated because it was American and i had to convert everything so i could see how I was doing re others. So I gave up. This time my excuse is that i thought it would be mostly just me this month as OH is working away from this Sat for 3 weeks. however, we've had my step sons over a couple of times and now my DD is coming back from Australia next week () so i know I'll most likely end up over budget but it will have been because of good things!!
Today i bought half price steaks in Rainbow (yum yum - think my iron is low - i have iron tabs but didn't take during flu cold as wasn't hungry and the tablets make you feel sick on an empty stomach)........ anyway....... also bought salad stuff and turkey steaks as OH on diet/ healthy eating. Bought a couple of jars of 'healthy' cook-in-sauce (I know, I know) which were half price, as was the Fruit/ Barley water, sugar free Alpen, prune yoghurts ()
and Dairylea light tub. i bought that as OH is weaning self off crackers and slabs of cheese.
So.... things are ok so far but it's only 8th!!!

ps - I got a Rainbow voucher for 40p off 6 pints of milk. Am I imagining things by thinking that somewhere i have read that Tesco takes other shops' vouchers? I don't often go to rainbow but the voucher looks handy!0 -

The lidl flour is brilliant and now my loaf is coming in at under 20p a time :j -i have one cooling right now;) ..the creepy crawlies sound like flour wevils(sp)...
I thought they probably were  My B/M is only a 1.5lb loaf size so whenever I've made one it only lasts for one lunchtime with this family so I have to bake 2 and it takes a whileI don't want to use the fast setting as every time I have the bread hasn't turned out very well. It's great to know that even 2 will only cost about 40p though.

Jost updated my sig. with week 1 total. £38.38, so far so good.
Have stocked up on loads of 30% off meat from Lidl and they were giving away packets of 12 Pain au chocolat at the checkout, I grabbed 2. The use by date is today but I am going to freeze them all and nuke them in the microwave as needed.
That is the first time that I have seen Lidl give away stuff but the girl on the checkout informs me that they give stuff away most days, in the afternoon, just depends on what is ready for the bin.
I think I will be a regular there around the 2pm mark! But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -
Went to Asda last night to get cereal and they have their Robinsons diluting juice on special offer 4 for £2.00, so got 4 of those, will need to go back to get some more tomorrow.
Total spend now up to £47.03, so have updated sig.

hi everyone,
just updated my signature, spent another £7.47 today.
my little'n is dairy intolerant, so stocking up on his soya desserts and milk is a little costly. His worth every penny though!!
Gonna try and stay out of the shops for a few of days, i think im at risk of going over budget:eek:

Had to go to the Co-op tonight. Couldn't face tesco and spent £8.37 on tomato sauce, Hp sauce, tin foil, freezer bags, kitchen roll, reduced spuds and reduced apples and 4 tins of tomatoes.
I really have to add this up and sort out my sig.0 -
Have decided to put meals out and takeaways in a different pot, so removed it from GC total.
Did a shop @ Mr T after picking DS2 from school...he has hurt his leg again! Have made an appointment with a sports therapist to see if she can see why he keeps getting injured. I think it is because he is so large so young, but we'll see what she says He is only 14, but 6 foot tall and nearly 15 stone (not fat, just a BIG rugby player!!!), with a 17 inch neck and 37 inch waist!
He is having trouble getting shorts to fit as his quads have grown very large....I think I will put side splits in the ones he has to make them last a bit longer. He has always eaten very healthily, but more so recently (diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 2 years ago). What with him and his 6 foot 2 older brother, I have trouble keeping them fed!
The Tescos shop (£26.58) was mainly for essentials like loo rolls, washing powder, pain killers, cereals, milk and OJ, should hopefully do us for the rest of this week and into next. I have persuaded the boys to try the own brand versions of Shreddies and Weetbix...and they like them....hurray, so another bit saved!
Got to go and heat up the defrosted pasta cheese for the boys and cauli-cheese for me and DH for tea, will pop in soon.

As I had a kitchen full of Christmas and New Year left overs managed to keep away from the supermarkets, which is the key for me, not being tempted by bogofs etc. so week one was a total of 1.62 (milk), but I will catch up next week!
Well done everyone!
