I stashed 6 to bring back here :shhh: .... cooked 1 yesterday... the stock went to make soup, had some of the ham with mustard on fresh baked bread yesterday  and with salad and potatoes for dinner tonight and im going to slice and freeze the rest tonight... you can get heaps of meals out of 1... so its deffinitely worth the spends
Singlemum.... i read cook books like novels :rotfl: but have banned myself from buying any more at the moment - but my DB got me jamie olivers one about growing and cooking for xmas and a mandolin- its brilliant :T but i still tend to cook all the old staples my mum used to-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
I saw the bero books in morrisons before christmas, and picked up 4 for myself for me and presents, and 3 for my nan, who cant even see well enough to read them but insisted i got her some, as she has had these since the fourties. I swear by them, very simple recipes with few ingredients that you can adapt easily, straightforward instructions etc.
I still have an old one from around the sixties, the disappointing thing about the new one is that it doesnt have the recipe for peanut butter cookies i used to like so much.
NSD day for me, kids back at school, loadsa tidying/recovering and waiting in for delivery of a part for carpet cleaner. Still hasnt come, so might have to wait in tomorrow aswell, thus spending no money, not such a bad thing

Hello everyone, just playing early evening catch-up in the forums. End of week one and my grocery spend for the week was only £17.58 This included today's Co-op additions as follow:
2 x Co-op wholemeal loaves (2 x 65p)
1 x Dairylea (on special at 67p again)
2 x Walkers Crisps multipacks (I think I've been overcharged! Receipt says £1.35 per bag, shop shelf said 2 for something... watch this space! I'm away to the Co-op now to check.)
BRB
OK, I ran back along the street to Co-op, receipt in hand, and can now confirm that Walkers 6 packs of crisps ARE 2 packs for £1.79 but the items had scanned incorrectly. I have to say that I don't often have this problem with the Co-op, it's usually Somerfield that happens. So, have now had my daily exercise twice and updated my signature to show week one's grocery spend as £16.67
Now - anyone know what I can do with the other half of my homemade spaghetti Bolognese sauce? Tacos, chilli and lasagne are all out as someone in this household doesn't like any of the aforementioned. Spag Bol is 'tolerated'. I can't freeze it because it was made from mince I had in the freezer.I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Well, that's the end of my first week, and I only spent £11.33, but we've mainly been using up the xmas leftovers, so it will soon change.
Well done and good luck to everyone else on the challenge.0 -

I'll second that, we do it all the time. Same with any other raw frozen meat, once cooked it can be refrozen. Never had a tummy ache from food poisoning, so must be okay.

Yes, I bought several packs of the lean minced beef when it was on special offer and split it up into smallers cartons, so it was frozen raw and defrosted for cooking. That's great news! I'll away down the stairs right now and transfer it from fridge to freezer for another day :j Thanks for that MrsMC. Hope your trip home was OK and you weren't overweight with all your bargainsI reserve the right not to spend.
