I'm still using up contents of freezer and cupboards before going shopping again but im still spending the money (hopefully that will stop by the end of this month and i can start setting some aside for a big shop)
waging war on the bathroom and am refusing to buy any more toiletries till the little bottles and 1/2 used jars bottles and tubes have been used up. clearing clutter and saving money all in one:TSPC~12 ot 124

- i have allready hijacked the seeds from my peppers :rotfl:
MrsMc.... is there anything that you need to do to the seeds after you have taken them out of the tomatoe/pepper ?
I have already bought tomatoe seeds, but I am going to try this with the peppers ....but wasnt exactly sure how to go about it

Hi there nopot2pin
With tomato seeds they are covered in a bit of jelly stuff -if you are planting them within a few days you can just push them into a bit of compost-
I grow mine outdoors so i put them in little pots on a tray, cover with a clear plastic bag and stick on a warm windowsill and keep watered until they are about 3" tall -then they go straight into the pots in the garden.... covered with a big plastic bottle with the bottom cut off to protace them to start with...
If you want to store the seeds you need to get the jelly off -i stick them in a sieve and wash them and then dry on kitchen paper and then stick in an envelope
Pepper seeds can be treated just the same as tomatoes -but you can just tip them straight into an envelope to store.
When i did this for the 1st time a couple of years ago..i planted loads of tomato seeds, never expecting all to make it -but they did.. we had sooo many tomatoes that year... mind i turned loads into pasta sauce in the freezer
The ones i did 1st were a lovely baby tomato it was really firm but sweet -it was called "conchita" and i got them from morrisons -they were stunning and grew really well -just incase anyone shops in morrisons and wants to give it a go-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Thanks MrsMc... I will use up the tomatoe seeds that I have... as they are little cherry toms... And when I use my next pepper will save a few of the seeds.
Many thanks0 -

They could do with a bit more of a tomatoey taste, but you could squirt in some ketchup or tomato pur!e for that. Otherwise they are not bad.
I don't think they are as good as they used to be mind. A few years ago DH and I were in Tescos in Southport and we were approached to do a blind taste test (I think they do them often in Southport as we did a few). We had to compare Heinz, Tesco Value and a couple of others, and I chose the Value ones. Since then they are a bit less tomatoey. If I was really splurging I would buy Branston beans as they are really nice (but way too expensive).0 -

many thaks to OH for the meatball receipe , I shall try it tonight.
Can I join the challenge, I am trying to have as many NSD days asap. I have not been to the shops since 24th Dec.
I am saving to go to Canada, and really must cut back on the food shopping ( and everything else).
I am hoping to spend £44 per week for my daughter (14) and myself.Does this sound about right.
Any ideas for using salmon .Yes I know it sounds very rich, however i got it for £4 in Sainsbury's, real bargin, greatly reduced.
Any fish receipes?
Looking forward to the challenge, thank you.
SPC £500 well will try very hard.
GC £6.16/£1500 -

I love just plain old poached salmon. Put in pan with enough water to cover, add salt and some peppercorns, bring slowly to boil, simmer 10 mins then switch off and leave until cold. Succulent and very yum. Lucky you getting a salmon bargain!!

Morning everyone
I have just been to the market and managed to buy a birthday cake for £1.50 (£6.99 tesco variety- close to sell by date) its nobodys birthday but we can have a non-birthday party for the kids! 250g of butter for 50p brought a load and will freeze it for the breadmaker. So far this month have done well at £70 a week, but was tempted by the tesco devil with a £15 off £100 spend so i've spend £100 on value food to store for a month.

week 1 - 31st-7th £30
week 2 - 7th - 14th £20 plus £100 shop.0 -
You could always micro wave in some greasepoof paper 750 for about 1 and a half minutes - check every 20 seconds after the first minute and turn half way, then serve up with spaghetti a little butter and cream0
