    Hi there

No, you normally find them in small jars in the oriental section in supermarkets.. but to be honest i don't see why you can't miss them out as there is usually lots of carrot, pepper etc in them.. which you are putting in anyway....

    Hi!
Can I join in this challenge, hope I'm not too late. I have been keeping a spending diary, so I know how much I have spent to date, but I have no idea what my spend for the month will be.
So will estimate £200 for 2 adults and 1 teenager and 2 cats.
February Grocery Challenge 262.50/250.00 - overspend - oh no!

    March GC 0/300.00

Weight loss goal - lose 14 lbs by May 18th 2016 - so far 3 lbs lost
  • Hi all, aren't we all busy bee's, cooking up a storm! I've started making my own cakes with ingredients left in cupboard. Last one was sticky chocolate, yum! Although I think the ingredients wont last me the entire month so my sweet tooth is going to be maddening!
Not sure what to do when the cocoa runs out.
Not doing too bad moneywise but DH is starting to worry we're going to starve:rolleyes:
    January grocery challenge £150

I combined a Freecyle swap with trip to Ts today, and timed it brilliantly! our favourite sliced bread were not half but one third of the usual price, so I stocked up on enough for the month. All I need to do is to have a move-around in the freezer now and see if I can squeeze them in!

Seeing 4-packs of Hz tomato soup and lovely tomatoes at half price was too good to miss as we're out of both, so those should last into the coming weeks too.

I bought full-fat milk, with the intention of watering it down once we've used enough for nobody to notice. We're also trying Value coco-cereal, which I'm about to decant for the ravenous one, and value pineapple chunks for a filling upside down pudding. The yogurts were the larger branded 12 for £3 ones and I've got some half-price crisps to hide away until later in the week. (I'm being very mean and encouraging DH/DSx2 to understand that if they eat them all at once they've none left for the rest of the week!) We're not going to be getting the chilled fruit juices for the time being, nor cans of Diet Coke, and if the remaining butter spread gets finished up they'll have to make do with my baking marg!

I bought minimal veg as we've still got some frozen veg to use up ... and I'm risking leaving spuds til later this week.

At a total in one trip of £21.69, it was just as well that DH's razor blades were out of stock! There again, if I get desperate I might 'offset' some against next week's bread money.

Lovely MIL came for tea and cakes yesterday and brought us a dozen eggs, which is always welcome. As well as a few top-brand preferences we are pretty fussy about eggs and meat, especially chicken. (You can take the girl out of the farm but never the farm out of the girl, I guess!) I know that free range chicken is much more expensive but since we switched we've been amazed at how much further it seems to go on the plate, because it's firmer and so much tastier. We just eat less of it.

I did rice pudding in my sc too, it comes out beautifully creamy. I cant make rice pudding in the oven to save my life, never been able to

I did this on the weekend, and it tastes devine. We could barely wait for it to finish cooking. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't very thick, but as soon as it had cooled down completely, it was so thick and creamy.

    Yummy
  • just wrote out my mac cheese with smoked haddock and shopping list but it didn't post and i lost it. :(
Trying to be good, not always succeeding. :A:beer:

your trip to tesco sounds like mine!! Hi all,

Would love to join too. Like rosieben I have kept a diary and I have food in fridge/freezer from Christmas. Trying very hard to keep costs down, so wish me luck!

I expect it to be around £200 mark for 2 adults and 2 little ones.

    Cheers

    MM
