  • Popped into Tesco today. I didn't actually need anything but thought I'd look for some bargains and spent...............

    NOTHING  !!!

Yay me. I am disappointed that we've not had many bargains round here there're usually loads at this time of year.

Soup was fine in the SC - I've always used a pressure cooker but the seal broke

The bread from the breadmaker wasn't so good. I needed a battery for my kitchen scales so just guessed and didn't use enough flour. It was a bit sticky :rotfl: . I will try again after I've replaced the battery.
  • Mooloo - who are we to stop you having a rant:D .

I certainly appreciate it doesn't help the situation when people in severe financial straights are made to feel guilty about not putting animal welfare within an already highly commercial system before the needs of their own familiies. (not presuming you feel this way Moo :D- just saying as some people must do).

Ironic isn't it when the supermarkets bang on about the amount of consumer choice we have now, that some of us just... welll.... just don't have that choice, not all the time anyway.

Sorry I'm going off topic now - my turn to rant I'm afraid.

    Thanks Rosieben & Scotrae.

It would seem principles come at a price! I'm not really nearer a personal conclusion, but it was interesting to read 2 responses received, one for each side of the fence ;) . Not quite a representative sample, but it doesn't get more evenly split than that.

    Cheers girls

Just to clarify - I'm not at all against buying free range chickens and eggs per se, I just get uptight when people get preachy about it.

I'd love to buy organic meat but I just cant afford to; I always buy free range eggs. ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

Went to Asda tonight, spent another £10.82. This week is not going so well already! So much for a shopping free week! lol

    I just can't resist!!

Anyway...again 5 mini bottles of wine for hampers so £5 of it wasn't really our food budget. Not sure if I should count things I am getting for prezzies??

But I also got 4 4packs of diet coke for free!:D
Hi Dawnylou. Did you use the printable internet vouchers for your packs of coke by any chance? I printed some off today and wasn't sure whether asda will take them or not. So if it was the downloadable ones I'll be taking a trip to asda tomorrow!!!

  • Dh popped to Mr T for something last night and I'd told him about the massively marked down bargains that some of you lovely people manage to find on the reduced shelves. He had a look and strode back triumphantly with a few items of booty. Then tonight he thought he'd whizz up on his scooter (it's only about half a mile up the road) and have another rummage. He came back with a bagful of goodies saying 'I went a bit mad'. But he only bought bargain basement stuff like yoghurt, fruit and stuff for his packed lunches, bless him. I'm so proud that we've got a fridge full of yellow stickers! We were saying that if we didn't have a little kid, and one on the way, it's probably possible to pretty much live on yellow sticker food, that would be an ace challenge! The thing now we've bought sarnies for 6p, we'll probably start to say 'blimey the sandwiches were 9p tonight, s'a bit steep init'!!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

 Sorry, wasn't in any way implying you were anti free range, etc.... oops:o

    evening ladies

Well im amazed at how far i have made my £2.99 LIDL gammon go :T

We have allready had 2 meals of a salad and some sandwiches off it..i sliced the rest up today and it has divided into 4 more lots for a salad for me n hubby, the chunkier bits will either go to make a pasta dish or with some leftover chicken will make a chicken n ham pie and the stock had lentils and broth mix added to it and made enough for 3 flasks for hubbies lunches..so in all we have got 7 x 2 potions plus the soup..so it worked out at about 15p per serving :D ... and its all now in the freezer :j

Singlemum.... i know how you feel with the bread... if i even considered buying bread im sure hubby would think he was in the dog house :rotfl:

Well i went out earlier and managed not to buy a cold frame i spotted - was telling hubby about it and he has offered to get it me this weekend as a late xmas pressie, as there was nothing i wanted or needed so i told him not to waste the money on "clutter".. so im having a cold frame now :j its actually a good price its an aluminium frame with polycarb, and has a double lid and its €50 about £38 and hopefully it means i will get more crops as they are all going to be growing outdoors -mainly in tubs...so at least i can get more started earlier :p just thinking of the pennies im going to save on salad n veg makes me :D .
Hubby did initially suggest i get it out of the housekeeping.. and even though i have just banked some - i wouldn't as that would upset my budgeting :rotfl: and apart from that im getting as tight as a ducks bum ;)

Im determined to get to grips with this grocery challenge for the whole year..and im not having a cold frame distracting me ;)
