hiya, went out to do a big shop today, didn't get half enough, still with the freezer, my bm and a bit of hope we should get through next few weeks, need to buy tea bags and tinned toms, waiting to go to lidl cos it's cheaper. Went to Iceland for first time ever today, was impressed with some offers but their 3 litre milk is £1.69, so didn't save on that. Anyway, pretty tired and got a horrible day ahead of me tomorrow, so will update my sig and go to bed.

    Catalogues €767.52/€ 0

What a great idea! Our financial month runs from the 15th of each month - should I join this one or wait for the Febuary one? (Excuse the possibly silly question - I am new the forums and have searched but can't see if there is a cut off date as such).

Our current grocery budget for just two of us is a ridiculous £200 and I would love to cut it substantially. Also, what do people define as groceries - should I include general household items such as bathroom cleaning products etc? I would normally include almost any household disposable of that type in my budget.

    Hi Canadabound,
welcome to the most inspirational site i`ve ever found, it`ll have you addicted in no time and you will save a fortune.
It`s up to you when you feel like joining the challenge but i would say don`t put it off do it sooner rather than later.
This is my first grocery challenge and it`s great, really gets you thinking and makes you very aware of what you spend.
I`m finding that we are eating a lot healthier too.
    Good luck!

PS i add in all the toiletries and cleaning stuff as i find it easier.

Thanks but the nearest asda is about 40 miles away and we don't have a morrisons that I'm aware of. I'm pretty picky about my teabags so don't mind paying extra for them, it and chocolate are about the only vice I have left:rotfl:

    More spends

    - Asda, £2.88 (this was on a gift card though, so technically not a spend...)
    - Cat Litter, £6.99

We will buy our milk for the month tomorrow, so thats another £20 gone.

I have done well at sticking to my meal plan, especially as a couple of meals I have got the ingredients out for, but then OH has cooked it for me!
We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment

Hi CanadaBound, welcome to the GC!!! :j

Sunnyday's right, its up to you when you join the challenge but dont delay! most people run their month from pay day to pay day and often its in the middle of the month, so you could start here and run through into Feb, then join the new thread for february 15th.

I include all food, cleaning and laundry supplies in my budget. Most people include pet food etc too. Its up to you whether you include take out meals etc in your budget, some people have a separate budget entirely for this.

Just do what works best for you. We're not competing against each other so you make your own rules really. Good luck! ;)

Just curious about your username, are you Canada Bound for real?
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

    :D i know, lovely arn`t they.
I thought with the grocery challenge that i shouldn`t have any but the smart price ones in Asda are 24p for a huge pack and the choccie digestives are 27p so my little indulgence is suddenly affordable.:D
