    Hey mumzyof2 i think you mean mysupermarket.com it's brilliant!

Are we allowed to post websites on here i wasn't sure, if i'm not supposed to then somone tell me and i'll delete the post
  • Hi everyone,

I'd like to join as well. I collected recipts from last month and think I spent £400 on food, cleaning bits, etc. I'm not sure as DH sometimes picks up nappies and bits but don't seem to be able to find the evidence! Also he tends to buy his lunch at work. I am cheating a little as I know I spent alot on food over Christmas, so hopefully will be able to cut back on this when we get back to normal.

There's 2 adults, 2 under 5s and one on the way. I'll try for £350 a month, but really just being more aware of how much I'm spending will be an achievement!

Am I really obsessive for waiting until after 11pm to go make more soup stock from today's roast chicken? I've already stripped it and have enough for a sweet & sour, curry or stir fry tomorrow :)

What's obsessive about that? Whenever you can fit it in I say, better than binning it whatever time it hits the stock pot. Well done you.

I'd like to join this month, starting 28th Dec it's a five week month for us too.
Hopefully £250 for the month, for two adults, two kids, two cats and a rabbit is enough this time. I already did the big Tesco shop at the end of last week, with all the heavy canned goods and cat food on it. The shed has been very useful for storing stuff over Yule so am using it into the New Year too!

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I read somewhere to thank each post I read so I know which I've seen and which I haven't next time I return to the threads, so that's what I have just finished doing over the past couple of pages :rotfl:
Didn't know that trick, was wondering why people were thanking posts that didn't have any tips in them, just thought you were all great friends, no wonder it takes me so long to read the threads:rotfl:

Had a decent day today, used freezer stuff, updated Pear Budget (my computer won't let me download MSE budget, this seems to cover my needs, will know by end of year :p ), didn't spend anything, will go to do major shop tomorrow, hopefully will be able to keep on track, and by the way, HAPPY NEW YEAR, hope 2008 is good for you all.

    .

That was confusing me too! I was thinking I'd be told to clear off soon as I'm not thanking everyone. Not that I don't want to obviously, but I wasn't sure if I had the etiquette quite right.:o

It was Mumzy that asked the question on another forum, she asked why someone thanked everyone, and that was the answer - I'll try not to thank really silly one liners but it certainly makes it easier to see where you left off last time :) OR, just include a tip in all your posts so I can thank you all for them :)

Tip for sealed banks: See a penny lying in the street, rescue it for your pot :)

Hi everyone. I still haven't updated my sig this month-just remembered, will probably do it tomorrow. and I still need to do an inventory of all the food I have in freezer and store cupboard before I go shopping. I'm still trying to decide whether it would be better for me to do the shopping online... Decisions, decisions. OH cooked evening meal tonight-carbonara (all food out of freezer and cupboard) .
Welcome to all the newcomers who have joined today-the more the merrier!!! Thanks to nykmedia for your tip re. pennies-I do pick them up anyway!!! I remember a couple of years ago I was waiting for a train and there were some teenagers waiting at the station, they were throwing coins into the air and kicking them onto the track-not just the odd coin they must have done this with about a couple of dozen or so. I remember thinking what a waste-a few years down the line when they have responsibilities and bills they will not be so wasteful. Gosh-does that make me sound really old??? I hope not!!!!!!! Anyway better go now I've had a ramble.
Tip. If you get hold of any magazines (my mum saves me some of hers) flick through them and check for money off coupons. I cut them out and Tesco and Asda redeem (take the value of the coupon from the total of your shopping)them even if you don't buy the particular product (as long as they sell the product of course).:)

I'm still awake, too LOL Was making soup stock, which is done now.
I do the double points shuffle for my shop because the nearest Tesco is over 40 miles away. I switched CCs and got the Tesco Clubcard one last year. This is what I use for all my grocery shopping and we only have a Co-op here. That means I get Co-op dividends and Tesco clubcard points. Haven't used my Tesco points for anything yet (keeping them for deals) but I did get £6 off my last week's grocery shopping using my Co-op vouchers plus a further £6+ cash paid into my account in Co-op dividends :)

TIP: Register for Co-op Membership and they now pay the 'dividends' in cash and send you vouchers twice a year. (It may cost £1 to become a member but it's worth it if you shop at Co-op.

  • Hi, can I join in with this challenge too? I'm putting us down for £500, simply because I've lost track of our supermarket spends by not keeping up with the spending book in November & December. Am determined to get rid of a large chunk of my debt this year as well as making better use of my time, i.e. not going to the shop 10 times a week or whatever it is

We've got a bit of food in and I'll figure out our meal plan for this week this afternoon. Trying to lose some weight this year too :j
