    Hi another newbie!
Can you add me to the GC for £400 per month. This will include food, cleaning stuff, cat food(3!!), school dinners(not everyday) and prob birthday presents for friends (not family). OD has 4 birthday parties in next 9 days!
I'm looking forward to this and hoping I can by under the £400. OH thinks whenever I try to do things to save money that it's funny! He would rather just waste money!
Anyway, I'm getting started now. Wish me luck!!!

Hello everyone and Happy New Year to anyone who just got back to their computers :)

This is my first month doing the grocery challenge on MSE but I've had loads of practice before I found these forums... now I simply don't have any time to spend because my fulltime passtime is reading MSE forums!

My January budget is £120 as cupboards & freezer are quite well stocked. Today I spent £2.05 on a couple of onions and a 400g block of mature cheddar, which was on half price promo at the Co-op. There are no carrots for sale in my town today.

My chicken soup has had to have frozen carrots added!!

HINTS & TIPS: Make mental note to grow buckets of carrots and learn how to store them properly. :D

PS: Hi Hopeless... I think you'll find quite a few of us 4k challengers in here now :)
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

    Hi All

had my first shop of the year today....I have worked out my "big" shopping list and split it between Aldi (cheap everyday stuff), Tesco (most of the rest) and Sainsbury (bread - don't like anyone else's).

I can come home from work via any of the above 3 so there's no real cost in petrol in shopping at all 3, so it suits me to split it up. Some stuff is, surprisingly, cheaper in Tesco than in Aldi at the moment so I'm benig very selective about what I buy from where.

Anyway, sorry, I'm waffling on again!

    Spent £28.18 in Aldi.

just done my first shop of the year and spent £11.70 in Tesco. Just a few odds and sods and essentials. I will be stocking up properly on Friday for tins and the like to last a couple of weeks.

what I did differently today to how I normally shop is to come home and make notes on the receipt. I noted everything that was Tesco value (not all products have it in the title), and the original price of all the reduced items. This puts the cost of the shopping bill into a context. I was impressed that over half the products were either value or chuckout counter ones. Unfortunately my Tesco is not huge and there was no value option for tomato puree for e.g. so I think shopping in a bigger store would save me further (obviously if I am in the area anyway).

    Hi all,
I have managed to spend nothing on any groceries since before Christmas and as our payday was 23rd December I should probably count the Christmas grocery spending. I did manage to buy almost everything with vouchers from pigsback and my Tesco Clubcard plus savings though.
business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Any Aldi shoppers, do you have any good buys at aldi that you would recommend? I am going on Friday to try to do our main shop this week for 2 adults 3 young kiddies and a dog......

I think if I remember rightly most people have commented on their fruit n veg being good and also cheese, but am interested in the meat/frozen goodies

I am now thinking my budget might be a bit low, but am still going to give it a good go, my main worry is alcohol (dh drinks strongbow and I am partial to a glass of wine or 3!!)

There are loads of us on here which is great, thanks for all the tips and ideas..

Hi all I'm new to this thread but would love to join in.

I'm not to bad at money saving, but I really want to cut down our bills this year which includes our grocery shopping. My target for this month (1st jan- 1st Feb) will be £280:eek: this is for 2 adults a nearly 4year old and a 1 year old!

I usually do 95% of my shopping at tesco, but am trying to change that and buy cheaper bits from lidl, aldi etc.

I shop 100% at tescos, i used to think it was one of the more expensive shops, but since learning how to shop properly i find it one of the cheapest!
I do buy alot of there value range and find its what you do with it that makes it taste nice not how much it cost.

So far iv spent nothing on this month challange, i have completed meal plan up to next Tuesady using things i have in already, so no spends here until next week (hopefully)
Hope you are all doing ok too.

    Me Too DLB

Have planned meals around the Christmas Mountain of leftover food until Saturday so I should also have a No spend few days.

More Turkey curry anyone??? Would you like a mince pie with that?
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.
