malvena, put them in the side of your purse/bag, try to keep them, great incentive not to spend them when you want to keep them for your tin.

Little Miss Naughty - I think in a way you're better off making your own mind up with value goods, there has been many threads on here about value items but with many different opinions. Some tinned toms I find a little sharp, but nothing a teensy of sugar doesn't solve.

mumzyof2 I do have a car but have been limiting how much I use it. When I shop around I stock up at each shop. I went to Lidl's in the beginning of December and stocked up on what I buy there, won't need to go until next week or so. Costco one I did in November, won't be going back there until February. Doesn't mean me going to 5/6 shops a week, if thats what some thought I mean't about shopping around.

And that included some meat and salmon to pop in the freezer too! :)
    Good start!

  • Right my 2nd delivery from Mr T has just been packed away ok well most of it has been packed away but DH has taken the kitchen apart (extention being done) so i don't have as much space arghhhh and i bought lots stocking up for lunch boxes and my DS party in 3 weeks etc now i got no where to put it and i only just managed to get everything in the freezers.

Must say though i seem to have food coming out my ears, its not that i have got more than normal from what i can tell but everything is full which must be good i guess maybe i am just feeling it from lack of space, but its only a wall he has taken out no cupboards have gone yet, and i have not over spent either.
    Still Trying :o

I think I may be doing this wrong...I got paid on December 21st - so I start from then? ...

Most people seem to run their month from payday to payday, so you are right starting on december 21st

you may gain a bit this month if you had shopped early for christmas :D
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

    Hi All

It was also a trip to tesco's and not waitrose for me. My question is it there any of the Tesco own brand / value products that you would not recommend buying over branded goods eg tesco own bread, tinned toms etc.

    Thanks for your help.

Can recommend the tesco brand cola (£0.39p) My OH can drink it by the gallon and I actually prefer it to pepsi etc. I use the bread etc a lot. And the finest roast potatoes are brill (got a packet for a £1 and they are lovely, for when I'm being lazy)

I was just on checking my ipoints account and they have a slow cooker for, I think, 5400 points. Will need to go back and check, cos I have a memory like a hen and have forgotten already :D

Just back, it's - Delonghi CKS510 5L capacity stainless steel slow cooker - 4200 points

That's another job for me - to rationalise these points systems I've signed up for (pigsback/iponts/mutualsomethings). I went a bit gung-ho when signing up so now I've only got a few points here and there - anyone know of THE ONE to belong to - I'll go off and have a look for a thread later.

Thanks though Nyk, I'll check this out.

Managed a no-spend day yesterday and today OH spent £10 on a few bits and pieces (from Waitrose tho grrrr). He had to get some Bisto as we succumbed to a false economy buying vegetable gravy from aldis which was DISGUSTING!

Freezer and cupboards still have a few meals to get us through the next few days so hopefully we will be under budget this week.

  • Hi all, another newbie here!
i would like to put my name down for this challenge. being a student nurse things are getting a little tight, so i would love to shrink my outgoings. I'm going set my target at £300.00 for this month, including nappie wet wipes etc... for my little one. I don't drive, but im going to dust off my bike and knock the buses on the head, this should save £10.00 a week (and hopefully shed a few pounds in weight at the same time!).
I was wondering if the are any receipe ideas, i like the idea of the slow cooker, but having never used one i don't really have a clue what i can cook in it! any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Happy new year to you all!

Oh yeah and I had a spend today:

£10 at local butchers on a huge rolled turkey joint, which is now chopped up into 4 and wrapped up in the freezer, ready to slow cook / roast. (was reduced from £25) They are still quite big chunks, and I'm hoping that once cooked they would be dinner and sarnies the next day.

£3 at fruit and veg stall on the market, just odds and sods. Managed to just have my tin of soup today, instead of popping out for a sarnie. This grocery challenge thing will probably help with my attempts at loosing weight as well!

Then tea was toad in the hole (look at me all domesticated making my own batter). This got rid of some of the ropey sausages from the bottom of the freezer. And gravy was left over from monday.

So thats £13 spent £107 left!

  • Hi all!!

I saw someone with the grocery challenge in their signature so i stole it and have been trying to find it since!! :D:D

Can you please count me in for £240...i will be counting that from payday to payday but for your mental health please just chuck it in as January!! :rotfl::rotfl:

I've taken all the money out for this month and labelled it accordingly, and am making meals out of the food left in my cupboards and fridge freezer :A

Thanks very much and happy new year!
Back and ready to save some money! :D
