Hi, I've been shopping twice and still have over £18 left for extra bread and milk topups. I prefer online shopping as it saves me buying so many 'offers' that end up being binned or making me fatter!:rotfl:

Had to get more fruit and veg today so thought I would try Lidls but to be honest I was a bit disappointed as the veg didn't seem that fresh and the fruit was definately on the expensive side. I didn't feel particularly reassured when I saw a young SA literally throwing leeks into a box with enough force to make them bounce back out of the box and onto the floor!

Anyhoo...got loads of food in now and enough soup ingredients to keep me going for a few weeks and next shopping delivery is due on Tuesday from Sainsburys - including a £10 e-voucher because of a late delivery over Xmas.:D

Hiya, haven't had time to read the posts today, have been trying (and generally failing) to conquer the mountains of washing lying all over my house!!!!! Hope everyone is well, and staying on track. Have spent €12 today, not as good as it sounds, cos I really only needed to spend €5, just got sucked in and bought stuff I didn't need. Progress tho, cos before I would have probably spent €20 minimum!! Also paid off some debt out of my Christmas wages, my sis was just envying me my wages yesterday thinking I was going to hit the sales, hadn't the heart to tell her I was just using it to stop some more nasty letters:o , still, good to have it to use, eh?? Must go update siggy
    Credit card €7892.36/€ 0

    Evening everyone

    Don't feel left out affordmylife -i haven't spent anything yet :j ....

We finally got home today... i packed up food for the journey as i refuse to spend anything... ahh hubby got me a hot choc on the ferry so thats ok ;)

Im trying to last until at least monday (when hubby goes back to work) then i will venture out..... until then we are using the HM stuff in the freezer and some of the stuff i have brought back from the UK -which is still in the car until the morning :D well it was minus 2 when we got out of the car-so it won't go off ;)

So for our main meals we have :-

    Hm liver casserole ,veggies
Hm steak n mushroom pie, veggies
potatoes n onions done in the oven ..HM bread
    roast chicken dinner
    fish pie n veggies
fresh boiled gammon with potatoes n veg - the rest will be frozen in portions for pasta salads, ham n chicken pies etc...and the stock will make soup ;)

if i can go until monday then im going to put 1/4 of my budget away... as im planning on dividing the monthly amount up and at the end of every week putting any leftover cash away and starting with the next weeks amount...

Can we have lots of possitive thoughts - "i will not shop until monday" :A

Oh although i do have to nip to one supermarket...but only to return some crates n bottles from over xmas..which should mean me getting about €20 back -which will go straight into the "deposits" tin :T

Visited Tesco this morning, mainly for toilet rolls, kitchen towels and cat food...cat won't eat Lidl one! Spent €29.69, so added to €20 spent the other day, that leaves me with €270.31 until the end of the week...gathering a few leftovers to put in freezer for dinners for me for later on...DD4 and OH are fussy about eating stuff that has been frozen, I have no objection...food is food and if it tastes all right don't see a problem...very little patience with fussy food people!

Really envy you some of the reduced prices you seem to get in UK...looked to-day in Tesco and saw nothing that I would buy for the prices they were asking.

    Good shopping

mean marie we don't get bargains like that usually in shops near me, lucky to get 20p off a £2 item, I was thrilled when I found something with 60% off on Christmas Eve, just the one item however, I think the most I've had off other than that was £1 off a box of dishwasher tablets but was a giant £12 box with a hole in it. I did get a couple of bargains in the local Coop before we moved in, but haven't seen any since.

We also can't use coupons off anything if we don't buy it. Neither Asda or Tesco will take them. Suppose unfortunately that means my grocery challenge is what we genuinely spend, no discounts/reductions/coupons.
One day I might be more organised...........

  • Well this challenge certainly focuses the mind. Went for a new years walk with some friends yesterday and ended up with fish and chips! Added to the food cost for the month - not cheap!
Tonight I've made some quiches with leftover pastry and stuff from Christmas. Also made some soup for lunch at work - should last a couple of weeks. Great to see stuff being used up and not wasted.
Made a list of what was in the freezer. Planned meals for the next week. Got a list of what we need to buy on the fridge that we can add to and then plan where we are going to get it. Popped in to Lidl on way home from work. Never been there before and wanted to see what their prices were like. Need to look at receipts more carefully as I don't know the cost of things.
Anyway pleased how things are going except for expensive fish and chips yesterday!:T
Probably do supermarket shop at weekend as will need some lunchbox stuff and some shampoo etc.
