I'm a bit late i know but would like to have a go at £120. I will be on my own (with dogs!) for a couple of weeks but it's usually me and DH (works away often though) and step sons at weekends. The reason I'm going in with what i think might be a low figure is also because i'm not counting what i bought during the last few days of 07 as I've lost the receipts. Some of it was for eating during 07 though! I'm off work at the moment but when i go back i wll continue to take my sandwiches with me so that helps keep costs down.

Have ordered my next tesco to come, had to be on sunday so that i could make use of the 7 pounds off voucher but hopefully that means our milk will last till then, got 4 pints of semi skimmed and 4 full fat for 2 adults and 2 under 3s, i'll remind oh to check if there is any at work, sometimes he gets to buy 4 pints for 20p if they are getting close to date cause a shop wouldn't accept them, I'm sure he doesn't bother checking (he works for a distribution company). Its come to just over 70 pounds but with buy one get one free etc it'll be closer to 60, think I'm not gonna hit the target this month but both oh and i needed new razor blades and new toothbrushes all round, although I'm sure I'll only need bread milk, fresh fruit and veg for the rest of the month so we'll see. I have meal planned this month which helps so much but sometimes i can forget to get things like snacks for the kids and drinks when i do the shopping, not this time.

:j Finally added all my spends up for December, sorry to take so long lil-me, am I too late for the tally up? Well, going to try a food budget of £280 running from last Friday to Friday the 25th as hubby gets paid then.
Hope I manage as it's a lot less than I'm used to spending, but am skint as I'm sure everyone is, and food is the easiest place to cut back. No more biscuits!
    Good luck o everyone!!!:A :D

Hi everyone - quite new to this but if you dont mind I will try and keep to a budget, as I would love to have something put by for a rainy day. I usualy have house keeping of £130 per week (everyweek starts a Friday) for all shopping, fuel, papers etc however I will cut that back to £100 per week. Have just done Tesco shop so I can get the £7 off so so far thats £69.70 and shouldnt need anything else for the rest of the week. Have decided too that I will take out the balance of whats left on a Thursday and put it in a wee bank account because if I leave it I will just possible spend it. Good luck to you all.
    Every days a School day!

Didn't know that trick, was wondering why people were thanking posts that didn't have any tips in them, just thought you were all great friends, no wonder it takes me so long to read the threads:rotfl:

    quote]

    I "thank" as I read. :o:D

I learn so much from everybody - and even if it's a more social post, or contains info that I don't really think applies to me, I still think everyone deserves to be thanked for their contribution - just for joining in, for being kind, for making me smile, or count my blessings, airing their business on a public forum - or even just for keeping a thread going with a judicious bump.

There are so many reasons to thank someone that yep - I thank everyone! :D:p:o

(It does help you keep track of where you've been as well though. :D )

It's horses for courses though, each to their own and all that. I expect everybody does it slightly differently.

    Love Jacks xxx :D

  • First trip of the year to Mr T's, spent £87.35 for a trolley full, but made use of a lot of special offers - so should make other weeks cheaper. Usually shop at Waitrose, where a trolley full would normally set me back £120 +

Thank you all for setting me off on this challenge.

Morning all! Hey, I didn't know that about being able to use vouchers even if you don't actually buy the product! Does this apply to any other shops (mine is Sains and Coop)? I'd have never dreamt of doing this before (talk about living by the rules!) but if it works and they're happy to do it then I'm up for it!
Had a NSD yesterday but think will need to get some bits today, and will try to fit in a menu plan this afternoon. Have a good day everyone!

    Hiya

Didn't do the challenge last month and boy do I know it. I saved all my receipts, so will do up a tally later in the week, when the boys go back to school, just to see the damage  .

I didn't succeed in November's challenge, so will try for £225 this month - lasting the whole month. It will include anything I need for the baby but not DH's fags. I so wish he would stop.

    Good luck everyone.

    Hello again!:o
I haven't had access to the web for a week or so and have been overrun with family staying and the general Christmas hassle that I just haven't had time to post.
I'm in for the challenge again this month - November and December were a general success so I'll have another bash.

I started on Dec 29th and will have to make it last until February 2nd.
I have a budget of £100 for all food, dog food, toiletries and cleaning stuff (just me and a small doggy). This £100 is/was composed of £50 Tesco savings card (donated towards Xmas costs by mum!), £30 cash (donated by nan), £10 Tesco gift card and £10 cash. I'm going to try not to spend any of my "own" money this month to try to recoup the cost of the Christmas season a little bit.

So armed with this lot I went to Tesco on the weekend and did a massive shop that will hopefully last the month (apart from fruit/bread top ups). The total spend so far is £83.67 BUT it will last me the whole month hopefully. I've never tried to do a monthly shop instead of a weekly one so its a bit of an experiment for me. The cupboards and freezer are full and I'm away in Japan for a week with work mid-month so fingers crossed!!

    £100 budget - £83.67 spent so far - £16.33 left
