Having thought that, with a cupboard full of food, I'd be ok this month. DH has just reminded me we spent £20 on M&S food at the service station yesterday (children were hungrey and had to be fed, and all service station food is overpriced). As, if we had been more organised, we could have popped into one of the supermarkets we saw at the beginning of the journey home, I suppose this must count.
£350 - £20 = £330 to last for rest of month.
He also pointed out I hadn't counted any of the takeawys we'd had last month. This is going to be harder than I thought! Still realism is what I was after :eek:0 -
... I learn so much from everybody - and even if it's a more social post, or contains info that I don't really think applies to me, I still think everyone deserves to be thanked for their contribution - just for joining in, for being kind, for making me smile, or count my blessings, airing their business on a public forum - or even just for keeping a thread going with a judicious bump.
...
What Jacks said!! :j I thank all posts on threads that I am 'involved' in, like the GC threads. On other threads I thank for useful info, for a laugh, to say 'I agree' or sympathise, whatever.
I think there was some 'lively' disagreement on the boards a year or so back about whether we should thank or not. The thanks button is there and its really up to each person to decide if or when to use it; I doubt anyone on the OS boards is going to judge you one way or the other!
Welcome to the new GC-ers and good luck to everyone!... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Hi
New to this thread and planning to do £200 this month for me and a three year old and a cat. I am hoping that this will be a higher expenditure than normal for this month as a friend has offered to take me to costco to stock up on some stuff so I am going to take advantage and see if I can get some household goods to last me the year (which will then bring down the monthly spend). I also have tonnes of stocks in my freezers and cupboards so £200 should be very achieveable.0 -
Hi All
Went to town today for mainly veggies and spent £6.36 at Mr. T (Metro). Does anyone know if the Tesco Metro prices are higher than at the bigger Tesco supermarkets?
Did O/K last month as we decided not to have a turkey this year and bought a nice piece of beef instead (half is still in freezer :j) and a lovely bit of gammon.
Now, who was it said that I was as mad as a box of frogs? You do me an injustice Madam, I'm much dafter than that. Think of a demented Ken Dodd, then you'll be getting close
Hope you all had a great new year celebration and all the best for the future.0 -

Not sure about the Tesco Metro thing.... I was always under the impression that you missed out on some of the BOGOF's and deals... It might have just been the petrol stations with that
I am sure one of established GC'er will be able to assist you Mr mikeD.
And happy new year to you to .... hope mrs mikeD's arm is healing :kisses3:0 -
Hi,
I did my first shop of January yestserday and got the cat's food for the month and whole load of veg and stuff for me to make meals with (and take things to work for lunch)
Quite pleased with my restraint as it only cost about £28, I usually would have spent about £50 and most of that would have gone in the bin!!So many debts....:embarasse ________Total Paid off so far: £240Overdraft: £2700________Wardrobe Loan: £900______CC1(V): £9800 (0% APR) _______CC2(T): [strike]£3851 [/strike] £3731 (15.76% APR)______DFW Long-Haul # 71 _______Weight loss Challenge: 04/70lbs0 -
Hello - I'd like a bash at this... hmm to add to my various other challenges but I feel they kind of tie in together!!
No real idea what we spend (me and BF) but a great proportion of it goes on alcohol... oops!! Will aim for £200 but will include the shop I did on 31st - £81.29 - although was actually pleased with that as had a loadds of BOGOFs and Tesco vouchers... any hoo - off to check out the rest of the board - thanks to the organisers of this xxxDFW Nerd #1310 -
Just got back from Morrisons and spent another £2.81 on 48 weetabix and 2 loaves of bread.
Mum and Dad gave us money for our anniversary to buy a kitchen trolley I wanted and there was £7 left over, so that is going into our food money for the month. Thankfully that brings my £22 up to £29. Should make for interesting shopping this month. :rolleyes:AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

ive been using the site for ages, popping in and reading threads i started off with really good intentions but over the past few months these have completly gone to pot. My budget has gone out of the window, we sat and did the yearly finances and lets just say ive drawn a line under last years embarrassment and am going to fully comit myself to money saving.
My name is mrs-moneypenny and i will stick to my budget:hello:
'ive decided to start with next weeks money, and as soon as i draw it out ill put the necessary outgoings in a seperate purse ie dinner money, milk money etc
the fruit veg etc will come from the market each week and ive started a note book with a few prices from different shops and am going to also embrace down branding. The few products ive tried no one has complained
I went from coco pops to tescos value brand and 2 children actually prefered them (the other one inhaled his breakfast with the usual gusto)
If anyone has any tips id be happy to try them
household consists of 2 vegans, 2 veggies, 2 occasional meat eaters and the cat. I tend to do veggie/vegan meals in the house and they can have meat if we eat out. I did give them a 'treat' at christmas and brought a small peice of turkey for christmas and a beef joint for new year as we also had meat eating guests.SPC~12 ot 124
