I'm definatley in this challenge I want to spend as little as possible, but its very difficult here as there is only a CO-Op and its a tourist area, so prices are high
I want to try and spend under £200.00 we are a family of four, my month will run from today until 27th January!
Good luck everyone, we can do it:money:Trying to be frugal and sensible with my pennies.0 -
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I read somewhere to thank each post I read so I know which I've seen and which I haven't next time I return to the threads, so that's what I have just finished doing over the past couple of pages :rotfl:
My £120 budget is 1st - 31st January and is for everything food & drink / toiletries / cleaning for 3 adults plus regular mealtime visits from 1 adult + 1 child. Today WILL be a NSD because we have no shops here and we have no online grocery shopping facilities that deliver to our area. I have a full list of everything in the kitchen, so I don't see too much of a problem for January... I say, with fingers crossed
Good luck all - I'll keep my sig updated and return here for help often. Cheers for now :beer:I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.
Frugal living challenge - living on little in 2025 while frugalling towards retirement.0 -
Hi Everyone
I`ve been good and not spent anything at all today which is a bit of a surprise.
More good news as we`ve found there`s an Aldi not too far away so hopefully tomorrow we can see about a trip over there and maybe use the freezer budget there.
I`ve got half a tub of dried milk in the cupboard that i`ve remembered about thanks to the earlier posts on here so i`ll be mixing that up later.

Hi everyone
I would love to give this ago for the first time and see how I get on
The budget I am setting for myself will be £120 for the month as my cupboards/freezer are quiet full
I shop for 2 adults and 1 child plus 1 dog
£150 will hopefully cover us for food, nappies, toiletries, Cleaning products.
Will not need to buy anything today as got all I need but tomorrow I will be nipping Tescos for Milk and bread, Might send DH for these as he is less likely to fill a basket of stuff we really do not need.
Good luck everyone..Especially me :TJanuary Grocery challenge
Budget £120
Spent so far £22.540 -
I did a big shop at Morrisons for £135; still have another £35 to go on catfood in a couple of weeks, so that'll leave £30 for basics like bread and milk and fresh veg until the 25th if my target is £200, so it's looking do-able. The cupboards are looking good for items to use up (all listed on a spreadsheet - freezers to be done next). I've frozen 2 tubs of diced cubed beef off a roast for stirfries/curries and 2 sliced cooked sausages from today's lunch for a tomato/herb risotto - all nicely labelled in takeaway tubs. About to make breadcrumbs from 2 crusts for the freezer for a pasta bake later on in the week.0

I've been flicking through these posts and have decided to commit to the grocery challenge. There's just the two of us - and the cat Max - but we've been wasting far too much on shopping really. Pre-money saving, we've been easily blowing £70 a week, and that's seperate to the take aways and chippy meals...anyway, those days are over. I feel with a little effort we can get our spending right down. So - our budget for the whole of Jan is £200...and I haven't spent anything today so here's hoping it stays like that.
Best of luck to you all

OK please can I rejoin this challenge as I've failed dismally over the past 6 months with the shopping bill gradually creeping skywards again  I think going to Mr T and adding the odd (ok more than the odd) item hasn't helped so I'm reverting to online shopping for at least for 2 of the months shops and stepping up my bulk buying/cooking/freezing
So for 2 adults, 2 children (9 & 7) and a dog, with the shopping to include all food inc dogs, toiletries and cleaning and with a half full freezer I'm going to try for £250. The month goes from 30th dec to 30th jan.
Budget Jan 2008 £250
First online spend £106.29 (will adjust total when it arrives due to bogofs)MFiT Member No 85

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL ON THE JANUARY GROCERY CHALLENGE_party_
Having just prepared my annual New Year's Day family lunch I am reflecting on how much my attitude has changed since last New Year.
Last year the menu was about the same - Roast Pork with trimmings, 3 Veg and desserts but it was all bought from the extra special pre-prepared range and the meat was an expensive joint, which was about 100 times too big for us and the majority ended up in the bin.
This year I bought two modest sized joints of beef and pork, which I still have leftovers for curry and sarnies. Potatoes were smart priced which I mashed and saved some for roasties, frozen peas, fresh carrots and honey roast parsnips. Only thing pre prepared was the stuffing which was on the whoops! and frozen when got home ready for today.
Everything was served on my beautifully set table in my best tableware and I have to say everyone thought it was delicious.
I suggested that deserts were contributed from the guests and we ended up with a lovely sherry trifle and cheesecake. I would have never have let anyone bring anything in previous years.
:T I would like to say thankyou to all of you on this thread and previous Grocery Challenges for helping and inspiring me :TBut these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -
I think I'd like to try this (actually, I need to do this!) - is it too late to join?
I'm only one person (with two cats), but I think I can feed all three of us for £50 this month. My fridge has quite a bit in it and my cupboard has even more!
I hope I'm being overly generous with my first budget guess!Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0
