Hi everybody and especially all the newbies. I really haven't had time to read all the posts although those that I have read are very interesting.
Haven't spent anything yet but need to get some veggies tomorrow.
€€€€ Thanks kbl it works a treat.
Good luck one and all.0 -
I'm in for January. I have set a budget of £400 plus £100 for drinks. We have quite a lot in the house already, so it ought not to be difficult. Although we did some shopping yesterday, that was taken into account (the amount is for four weeks), so today is day zero. I ate yesterday's cheese sandwiches as french toast for brekkie, lunch is the unopened pate from christmas with bread, dinner is the chops donated by MIL plus veges. Today's food spend estimate: NIL.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

Hi,
Im new on here and going to give this a go at 300.00 for the month from now till 31/1/08.Normally spend 400.00 plus for 4 adults.
Happy 2008 to everyone!0 -
I need to do a weekly shop. We went to Lidl but it was shut; we went to Morrisons and that was shut too, so we went to Sainsburys and I bought the 2 most urgent items to keep us going until tomorrow (£2.60). I suppose it was before 11am so maybe the other supermarkets opened at 11... Anyway at least tomorrow I'll be able to go shopping on my own so I'll be able to concentrate without dh & ds distracting me!0

Happy new year to everyone and thank you all who have welcombed us newbies.
DH has just bet me 'washing up for a week':rotfl: (that will be a first, must get the camera out), that I can't do the challenge without family noticing lack of food for the month!
I love a challenge.
I am even going to buy him his own rubber gloves to do it with! and they will be out of the budget aswell0 -

December's GC seems to have gone surprisingly well - I think it's due to a good deal of relative-visiting. Also because the turkey dinner I cooked got charged to the Christmas budget which was cheating really..!
I just bought some milk and was reminded how very expensive it is. Does anyone here make up milk from powder for use on cereals, in drinks, making sauces etc? I wondered if it works out much cheaper and is it nutritionally inferior?
Good luck to everyone this month.
Rachel
Hi there, Happy New Year, first LOL
I ALWAYS have powdered milk in the cupboard and use it for all milk puddings and milk based sauces. It's not that much cheaper when you calculate out litre for litre costs but it is higher in calcium, lower in fat and always there when you need it, unlike fresh milk that disappears like water in this houseI reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Happy New Year, everyone!
I haven't spent anything yet - I have done the online Tesco order, to be delivered on Thursday, but it needs tweaking a bit. Will record how much it cost when it actually arrives!
The stone popped out of my engagement ring this morning - for the second time in 3 weeks so I will be spending in the jewellers AGAIN to get it fixed

never use powdered milk as I thinks its disgusting. I like food that looks like food not powder. does have its uses though. I prefer the idea of watering down the FF milk to make it semi. My problem is how to distinguish between the full fat (for the kids and cooking) and the watered down full fat. Will have to start saving the green lids before I start I think.
feeling very virtuous today as I have spent nothing, so a good start to the year. I am hoping I wont need to go shopping til Friday which is payday. I normally go shopping about 3 times a week so Im aiming to limit it to Mondays (went yesterday for a few bits) and Fridays.0
