Yesterday was a bit disrupted. We were invited out to our ex next door neighbours’ for drinks and nibbles in the late afternoon - I never know what nibbles means?! 🤷‍♀️We had a lovely time catching up with them and meeting some other friends of theirs but it was very carb heavy and not a veg in sight so carb hacks were a bit lacking! 😉

However, earlier in the day, I did do my yoga and sit ups and then get out in the garden and do some more bed edging / extending and by the end of the day I had managed 9K steps and slept pretty well, so I’m taking that as a win 😊

Yoga, sit ups and weights done. Limited steps as have been doing a lot of cooking and it’s too could to garden here today.

I haven’t gained any weight over Christmas this year. That I’m seeing as a win as Mr KK says he’s put on 7lbs! 😳 (He’ll lose it just as fast though, as he has a very physical job.)

I managed a one mile brisk walk today without my usual heel pads I have to wear! And no pain!! 😃 This is great because it means I can start to do more exercise if the pain stays away. Super happy about this.

Food wise I've had an odd day, I had some healthy bits and then not so healthy bits 🙈 I was pretty good and didn't eat too many unhealthy bits which is where I usually go wrong. I put my calories through the internet though and it says I'm still under 1800 so not quite calorie deficit to lose weight but hopefully not enough to make me gain 🙈🙈 ugh! The sooner the Christmas temptations are eaten the better lol.

I'll attempt to get myself into the gym tomorrow and find a knee support (I've one around somewhere) and try fast walking/ gentle jog. The walking is becoming easy so I want to keep gently pushing that little bit further each time.

@KajiKita I think I should get some weights for home. In fact DS has probably left a load but I wouldn't know what to do with them 🤣 what exercises do you do with yours? Well done for not gaining too as I have put on 2lb over Christmas 🙈😭!

@debtfreewannabe321, I suspect the weights DS left behind will be too heavy to start with. Mine range from 1kg to 3kg and sit behind the kettle at the back of the work top. They’re not expensive to buy though - I think I got mine at argoose years ago.

You have a gym membership. I think I would be tempted to get one of the PTs there to go through some techniques there with you - it would take ages for me to describe it here and there’s no guarantee I would describe every detail, u-toob videos get you so far, but having someone actually teach you and check your form would be really helpful. Has DP ever used weights?

That 1 mile walk without heel pads is huuuuge! 😊👏🤩🥳 That must be such a relief 😊
No increasing pace at walking etc until you find that knee support! <Paddington Hard Stare!> 😉

And yes, still too much Christmas stuff here too … My friend who came to lunch today brought a cake, which was very kind of her, but it’s literally just flour, sugar and fat …! 😂 Has the nutritional content of a cardboard box! Mr KK can take it into work and share it out there … or I will just leave it in my work canteen 😉

Did my chair squats whilst cooking tea (cat’s paw prints removed!). 7.9K steps, which is okay for a very indoor and hosting day 😊

Well done @debtfreewannabe321 on your 1 mile walk, hope you found your knee strap. I've had gym memberships on and off and I have meant to be have a session with a PT as frankly I really have no clue about the weight machines at all. Its a foreign language! If you do like to do a YT MadFit is my go to. She's American but really down to earth.

So we have snow here so all talks of running is on hold till the snow is gone. With my partner we did go out for a decent walk yesterday though and took lots of photos. The walk included walking on snow on the beach! Really strange but very fun! Hit about 8k steps.

Today's exercise is cleaning at home and will get in a YT stretching video from MadFit.

I confess I did go on the scales today, mine are those ones which measure body fat, bone mass etc. I take the values with a bit of flex but it gives a guide. The scales were showing a 5% loss. Am looking to loose approx 10kg by the end of the year. This wouldn't take me to what I would really like to be weighting but prefer a smaller more attainable goal as I am very good at starting and but being consistent is MUCH harder!

Weights (went up one weight level on biceps curls 😊), press ups on worktop, chair squats and yoga all done.
However, no walk today (we got up late and then dechristmassing the house took longer than I expected plus I had some chores to do so by the time I had time,it was starting to get dark - sigh …) - only 5.4K steps today. There has also been significant junk eating today - not sure why but the cravings were bad. (A bit of anippiness between Mr KK and I and mild anxiety about going back to work tomorrow I suspect.)

I’ve been thinking about how to break down my ‘exercise routine’ so I can still sustain it once I go back to work, and have come up with:
    - Do chair squats and weights in the morning when it’s cold and I’m waiting for the kettle to boil. I will turning it on until after I have emptied the DW - I’m a real creature of routines, I suspect you can tell 😉
    - Do work top press-ups in the gaps when cooking dinner
    - Do yoga after tea and after my shower in the evenings.
    - Go for a walk as many lunchtimes as possible, even if it’s only short - need to research a route for this
I’m hoping spacing out my exercise like this into smaller chunks through the days, will make it feel more achievable - if I manage three days a week of any of this I will be happy as it will be a step up from what I’m doing now. I think I will make a colour in chart for all these bits so I can track how I’m doing … 🤞😊

I go to dancemums, my first session tomorrow! 😳 I will be taking it very gently!! I don’t not want to end up in a sweaty breathless mess - that will just spike my anxiety later on. I need to work within my limits so I enjoy it - tbh, tomorrow will be about exploring those limits. Wish me luck! 😂

Aw good luck with that @KajiKita it sounds like it will be really fun. I get the going back to work anxiety too. I think we'll all be much happier when we can come on here and chat about our day when we're retired 🤣. I meet retirees at the gym and they all seem so chilled. I want to be them when I grow up. 🤣

@Queen_of_the_Hive I have a similar set of scales I think, I link them to my phone and they tell me how fat I am. I hate them. I also need to lose way more than 7lb but I thought if I broke it down into chunks it might be /seem more achievable 🤣.

Today I did the gym and traipsed around Mr T so definitely got plenty of steps in. Food- meh, a little like you KK yesterday and today, feeling a little anxious about returning to work and in a couple of weeks a new job. So lots of cravings/ wanting to comfort eat. I've said no to most but have given in to a few. I fasted until 12pm quite easily though so that's getting easier and I am able to exercise on an empty stomach better tbh.

Tomorrow is a short work day, 10-3 so I will make the most of it and go to the gym after work. Unsure if I'll be able to keep up the every day visits but I really would like to, I find them quite relaxing to be honest, get my days frustrations out on a fast walk, whilst listening to an audiobook and then sit in a nice sauna (great for my joints) whilst kind of meditating for twenty minutes ☺️ so it would be good for mental health to continue this as often as possible really.

Good luck with it KK, too far out of my comfort zone for me to even try something like that.

Low steps today as I've been doing standing still clearing of paperwork. I have done my usual sink squats etc but I do need to try harder.

I did my colouring in chart last night, and added a few things (drinking two big glasses of water in work each day, imbibing collagen supplement etc.)
My rearranged morning routine worked quite well - I delayed turning on the kettle until after I’d emptied the dish washer. While kettle was boiling I did chair squats, weights and finished packing up my lunch.
My day is off to a positive start 😊

  • Hi All, hoping to come and join the group to encourage better eating. I've been slowly running inconsistently for a few years and joined a gym 3 months ago. Need to get the consistency and also get my eating under control. I slowly lost a few pounds last year but have put half back on over Xmas 🙈
