It will be a huge effort for me to move my 30+ standing orders manually to another bank
Why?  It's straightforward to recreate SOs at a new bank, they don't actually need to be moved as such....

I am fully aware on what is involved in moving 30+ SOs manually to another bank, which is why I don't like the idea of doing it.

Well surprisingly, they are under no obligation to listen to any of your suggestions. Most banks won't.

Natwest has one of the best apps out there so that isn't surprising.

Maybe spend some time with the new app to get used to it first? I really don't agree with any of the stuff you are saying are issues but maybe I just got used to it quicker than you.
Unsurprisingly, I am also under no obligation to keep my business with a given bank. Aside from that, I have no idea how you would surmise that most banks would not listen to my suggestions.

I agree with you that the Natwest app is one of the best - which is why I said earlier it is better than the Santander one.

I have already spent considerable time with the Santander Pilot app, which I am assured is essentially the new version of the Santander app, and I don't like it, for the reasons I have already given. Your experience with the app may differ, but it won't change mine B)

Subjective criticism of my subjective views of the Santander app do encourage me even further to gradually move off Santander, so well done Santander defenders :D

It isn't about being a "Santander defender". Personally, I've used many many apps and they are all very similar. A few have a few extra features, but the basics themselves are essentially the same across them all. I would personally never switch just because of the app (unless it just didn't work at all) because they are all so similar. But that's just me.
  • My only beef is that all my accounts are no longer visible when the app opens. I have to move my thumb to see the others. I'm sure my thumb will cope though 😄

I wouldn't normally make my banking dependent on the functionality and appearnace of the app.

But if a bank isn't able to implement basic things like
    • search in payee list
    • nicknames for payees
    • sorting / re-arranging the order of accounts on the home page
in 2024, they aren't on my list of banks I really want to have accounts with. You are of course free to not care that their app is no more than mediocre.

On another note it seems the app etc hasn't been working today, Santander are denying there is still a problem on Twitter/X despite me & at least 1 other person telling them.

My app still stuck on Santander logo and loading nothing else😌

The new App has a terrible layout, The old App had everything laid out logically and clearly. The new one looks like it was designed by a child with large crayons. To add insult to injury they want you to add other bank accounts to it, I don't think so!, I'm thinking of leaving Santander and just using my chase account or switching to one of the other online banks (after checking out their Apps.. ;))
What? I'd be pretty impressed if a child made something that looked as neat as the new app. I personally really like and think it works well. You are obviously entitled to dislike it, but I'm just struggling to understand your complaints.

Also, the old app had the ability to add other accounts to it. I don't see why this would be "adding insult to injury".

I've used the online bank apps and really dislike them. Stuff just seems really randomly placed and are probably more childish than Santander is (especially Monzo).
Sorry, what I mean is everything is so big and space wasting and to be honest child like. I have a large phone and even then it only shows 4/5 transactions before having to scroll.
I guess it's the old story of each to their own and mine is a purely personal dislike of the new App.
I suppose that I won't get why you like it anymore than you won't get why I dislike it.

Mine are not all visible on the old app, maybe it is because I have quite a lot of them, too many to fill the screen  :)

What I don't like on the Pilot app is that when I log on it shows my current accounts at the top, which is fine, but then it shows my various debit cards below those, before then showing my savings accounts. I am not really interested in seeing my debit cards on the home screen, but there doesn't appear to be a way of moving them to show below my savings accounts.

Well you don't have to add other bank accounts to the app, nobody forcing you to.

You thinking of leaving Santander in general or just because you don't like the look of the app?.

Santander have a decent Edge Saver account.

As long as you can do what you need to do online/via app it doesn't matter that much what it looks like surely?
True, I don't have to add another account, I wasn't saying that I'd be forced to.
To answer your question, I've been thinking of leaving for a little while and the look of the App may give me the impetus to look around.
If it didn't matter what it looked like then I guess they wouldn't spend so much time and money designing the Apps.  :)

I do hope that they add the ability to personalise the homescreen a bit more. I'm happy to have the debit cards listed there, but others won't be. A way to hide them wouldn't be bad.

A small icon like Lloyds etc would do saying card details, rather than a big box taking up space on home screen

I hope it will be possible to re-order the accounts on screen, to put the more important / more used ones at the top.
