I was shocked to read grey lady's post and was unable to think of anything polite to say in response, so I said nothing at all.
I fully agree with what specialK and scooydo have written.

I agree with Adea, I read this before going out today and couldn't post anything polite so decided to leave it until I had given myself time to think about what to post. I totally agree with others that greylady has obviously never seen someone they love very ill or understand that sometimes when a person is so ill, that the hospital will not allow anyone other than closest family members only.

Keep up the good work fsdss and I am sure that Rick will continue to improve as he seems to be at the moment.

Hugs to you and your family.

So pleased with Rick's progress today :) You must all be relieved with how well he is doing ;)

Anyway, again! I admire your strength, the way you deal with things!! GOOD ON YOU.

There is a song by Billy Dean/Crystal Bernard, taken from it:

    If you have heart
    You'll find gold
    If you have strength
    You'll have control
    If you have faith
    You'll stand tall
    But if you have love
    You have it all

    Oh, if you have love
    You have it all,

Well done on not allowing yourself to be upset and keeping focussed on the most important person in all this!

good to hear rick is doing well. yes he may well be shocked and upset by the months events!! your family and rick are still in my prayers.

dont take any notice of grey_lady's post, she is one sad, jelous individual, just look through the posts and see all those who are for you.

you are a special caring person and your family are lucky to have you.

  • I've been following Rick's progress from the start and haven't posted before but feel I need to show my support now. I'm sure there must be hundreds if not thousands of people like me who have been wishing Rick and yourself well without posting on here.
You're doing a great job organising everything and I'm grateful that you keep us up to date on how Rick's doing.

Sending Rick, yourself and your family hugs and love.
  • I have just read the whole of this thread and only thing stopping me from crying my eyes out is that I'm at work.

fsdss - so much i want to say, but can't put into words, but you have been so strong and wow what a great person you are, whilst dealing with everything that was happening with Rick you were still able to look after everyone else. :A You are amazing. But remember to look after yourself too.

And so what if the thread is about you, thats the point of a 'diary' or 'blog', i was so enraged when i read the silly old mare's post, you made a point of saying it was your way of expressing how you were feeling and communicating, how much worse it could be if you just bottled everything up, you expressing yourself here has obviously helped keep your head clear and focussed for Rick.
If she had read the whole thread:

    1. she would've seen the relationship you have particularly with Rick, but also your family in general
    2. that actually you have lots of plans to help others in your situation (family room, encouraging blood donors)

i nearly didnt want to post as i'm a bit sleep deprived (night shift) and felt i would rant about her

Anyway I'm so glad Rick is making improvements, and yes it may be a long road but i know how important family and friends can be to people in Rick's situation, and it's important that he has you all around, it can play such a big part in his battle back to good health. (i work with males with a brain injury, with lots of physical health issues, communication issues, trachy's etc, and family involvement is crucial)

Keep up the good work with Rick, keep your chin up, it will get better.

Love to you, Rick and your family

Hi fsdss, i've been reading your updates daily (but have been quiet for a while)... id just like to say that grey lady's comments were horrible, i personally am very close to my nieces and nephew and would be doing exactly the same if in your situation. I appreciate you taking the time to post on here, i dont think you're selfish at all. You've got a lot of people supporting you on here, but theres always one person who tries to butt in and spoil things. Hopefully this wont happen again.

My thoughts are still coming your way, hope you're ok.

  • I've just read through the whole thread. Blimey!

So glad to hear Rick's on the mend.

DD1(25) burst her bowel about 10 years ago (complication of Crohn's Disease)and as a family we had a similar experience to yours. She was too ill to be operated on (the op would kill her) but the longer they left her the worse the infection became. It was a balancing act when it came to them choosing the time for her op. She ended up being fed through a tube straight into her blood stream for quite a while, hooked up to all sorts of bleeping machines. There is nothing in world that will ever touch your heart more than the words "I think you may have to prepare yourselves for the worst". Nothing.

Every day they stay alive is a small victory. It's the last thought on your mind before you sleep and your first waking thought.

But speaking back through time to you from 10 years down the line everything is fine. It's all good. :) She's happy, healthy and successful in both her work and love life. But Good God it was grim there for a while.

But you guys will get through this. Every day brings little improvements. This time next week he'll be a bit better, then next month a whole lot better. Before you know it the hospital will be talking about plans for him to come home. DD1 was allowed to come on 'Home Visits' where she could spend a couple of hours per day at home, returning to hospital at night.

One thing that DD1 said helped was having something to look forward to. We asked what was the one thing she wanted most in the world. Being a sensible lass she didn't say Johnny Depp or the Hope diamond, but she said she'd like to visit her best friend who had recently moved to the USA. About 12 months after we waved her off on her first solo holiday to spend a fortnight with her best mate and her Mum and Dad.

    Well, I'm waffling now :o .

Just to say keep on doing what you're doing. From a parent's perspective I wish my brother had taken some interest (any interest at all  ) when DD1 was so ill.

Wishing you and your family all the very best.

    And most of all
    Get Well Soon Rick

The lengths some people go to to get off going to work ;) :D

You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.

Oi you lot - please :heart:GIVE BLOOD  - you never know when you and yours might need it back! 67 pints so far.
