pigpen said:Cloth_of_Gold said:Hull wasn't exactly at the forefront of modernity in those days but going to those small villages in north Lincs was like going back to the 19th century lol. One aunt had a pump for cold water in the kitchen and another had a pig in a sty next to her cottage. Of course, it's all changed now.I wasn't being rude about Hull. When I was growing up there it was quite insular and sort of cut off. People came in on the north sea ferries but hoofed it straight off to York or other places and didn't really stay in Hull. It was a real mono-culture and I only once recall seeing a black person in all the years I lived there. As someone who didn't really fit in I was keen to leave once I was able to. Of course it's much more open and multi-cultural now and being a City of Culture really put it on the map I think.I have many fond memories though, such as going to Sydney Scarborough on a Saturday to buy 3 or 4 singles and, occasionally, an album, or going to the Picadish at Hammonds (or occasionally treating myself to a coffee in the cafe at Carmichael's) or seeing films at the ABC and Cecil cinemas, or on one occasion sitting through three consecutive showings of Saturday Night Fever at the Dorchester in George Street.Anyway, my reminiscences are boring for everyone else, especially those who don't know the places I've mentioned so I'll get on to flying. Stripped the bedding and washed it and it's now almost finished TDing. Put on fresh bedding. Made supper and washed up. I've started the evening eye routine and will put out A's breakfast things in a few minutes.5

.. the nightclubs are all gone.. Humber Street is all posh over-priced eateries (probably cheaper than London mind.. ) Ikea delivery is £35 its so far from civilisation.. the weird thing is people either love it or hate it.. A lot come to the university, love it and stay.. others can't get out fast enough.. it is very much a marmite town! lol .. Anywhere else you remember? haha
Until a few years ago 2% of the population were people of colour and 3% were east asian .. it is now more but a lot of Polish and Romanian immigrants.
And I have no idea why they glorify Phillip Larkin (there is a statue of him in the train station, it is a pokestop) he wrote poems about how much he hated the place! lol
Anyway.. I've not done the packed lunches.. but I did load the DW and turn the TD on!! I am not an accomplished flyminion today.. I shall go do lunches and fling my body in bed..
Tomorrow, for the first day in 2 weeks.. I have NOTHING planned.. that always means chaos!

Evening all (or rather, morning!)
I loved the list for Thursday, mind you, it's matched pretty much of what I've achieved all week ... I've covered the basics.
Today, from a flying perspective, it was more of a slightly-above-the-ground-growling .... WM x 3, washing on line - soaked (including duvet ... I've left it out, will to live lost), TD x 0 (may have to give in soon at this rate), DW x 2 (and now scheduled for overnight) ... an actual homecooked dinner cooked and .... eaten ... with leftovers and using leftovers (leftovers are not part of the leftovers, oh I know what I mean .... things went in the mash ... ).
Most best bit for me was DD hoofed over all my green manure, something which had been majorly fretting me, and now I feel I can move forward with the allotment
Tomorrow DH has the day off to do DIY ... so I am literally putting my fingers in my ears at the whole concept of flying .... clearing up can be done on Sunday when they're out.
Right, decluttering myself to bed whilst DH watches some more sci fi ....Hull - I found that a really interesting set of comments. I have no family from that way, but I do have a whole load of ancestors who live(d) in Notts / Lincs / Derbyshire ... with an uncommon surname in this country but a common one in Germany and I've long surmised that the route in was via Hull ... still seems reasonable (I'm talking back to the late 1600's)GC - March 2024 -7 -
Morning all xx
Yesterday turned into a 'read a book' day. It wasn't planned but, with hindsight, I think it was needed. My head was a shed and I was still struggling with high anxiety. Think ill sitting hen! So I listened to a 10 minute meditation and then read all day. I did bring in the other bin when it had been emptied and read about flying on a FB page that I joined. Does that count?
Went to bed late for me again and slept through til 7. I'm up, made my bed, taken my meds, completed Wordle and Connections, and I'm supping a brew. The FB page reminded me of the timed approach to flying. I'm wondering if Valli was psychically linked to me at the time. 😉. A little bit of this, and a little bit of that, then wiggle your bum. 🐦
CoG - Pops was brought up in Brigg. I went to secondary school there, and that's where my GP, pharmacy, Mr Al and Mr T can be found. Does your brother live locally or does he come across the river to visit the market?
Whose doing what today? It's raining here. Entertain me please 😊. Or you could chuck a fluffy mule to motivate me if you'd rather.
Brew 2 required. Join me?

Morning all. I am still here. Can't quite see straight yet, but things are improving gradually.
I got up, showered and dressed early this morning as my car is going in for its service and MOT. No, I'm not driving yet - I'd thought of that when I made the booking and arranged for it to be collected. They have just rung to say they're on their way.
The house is tidy, apart from DH's piles of stuff on his bedside table and in the LR and kitchen - and the man cave of course, which I never touch. It's clean enough, though will need a fly past tomorrow before a church friend joins us for tea. Tonight's food is defrosting. Hopefully today will be less boring than yesterday turned out. I hate being in limbo.
Round, I am just sitting down with a cuppa. A bit late, but maybe you're up for another brew yourself now!
Enjoy the fact it's Friday xxx4 -
Morning all, busy again. DW just finished it's first run of the day. Two car seats on the kitchen table, now wiped, when they are dry I'll put a bit of polish on them, then they'll be listed on Facebook. Dadtoomany had two others he was hoping to take to the tip. I suggested trying to sell them, as the tip is quite a distance, too mean robust the petrol! We are now £20 better off. Today these others will go for sale, now they are no longer covered in hay and bird poop. Better seats, they are heated! Less carp, more money.
@Asparklierblonde, sorry you've had to let the sheep go. Will they be close enough for you to visit? You can always come and look at ours, even stroke one or two. Hope the weather is improving for you.
@Cloth_of_Gold, goats are lovely, but better if they belong to someone else! We had some, who would scale seven foot fences, to climb the rest up the trees in next door's garden. They were only kids, the size of a Jack russel! We no longer have goats!
@pigpen, enjoying all the talk of your part of the world. My paternal grandma was born in Grimsby, another port town, not to far from you I think. According to a dna test DD took, I am one eighth Norwegian! I think maybe grandma's dad, (grandma was the oldest of her sibling group,) was not auto we thought he was!
Hugs to all, mumtoomany.xxx

I'm dressed, fed the birds and put out the recycling.
Coffee and a brain dump next methinks. Maybe that will get rid of this 'overwhelmed' episode? 🤯
Just seen on FB that someone tried to break into NN7's van while it was parked in the lay-by opposite overnight. So I'm now worried that they've broken into NN5's too - as he's started parking over there so that I can see to get out of my drive.

I managed to make a coffee OK, but no luck with the brain dump! My mind went completely blank! That's a first. Noted a few bits but nothing mind blowing 🤯
