Cheery's path to fulfilment - finishing the DIY, looking after myself, appreciating the garden 🌻

I have the day off today, so am trying not to overdo the scything
But it's VERY satisfying. Despite the grass being flat (trampled by tree surgeons) I'm getting a good result. And a big haystack... hopefully my mum's hay rake will make it's way over here tomorrow as the spring tine rake I'm using means I get distracted by the moss and rubbish which doesn't need dealing with right now!
Given that this bit was supposedly done by the person who told me that the scythe wasn't any good, I'm feeling quite smug6 -
I do have a question ... I've got a peening jig, and I've watched videos, but obviously need something/somewhere to use it - did you make yourself a peening stool, or drill a hole in a log, or what? I think I'll be OK for a bit longer, but now I've got it working I want to look after it2

I made a jig - just a flat bit of board, with an upright bit on to attach the thing. Will find a photo when I get home!2

Thank you! I have so many random bits of wood I'm sure I can make something useful
I hope your trip is going well!

Actually, I found one anyway- it's pretty straightforward, as you can see. I just stick it on a bench and sit astride it, no special stool or anything.
Hope that helps!
Well, Spain is fun, but I am tired, and apparently incapable of getting enough sleep 🙄 I was (fortunately) let onto the plane without incident, with my 3-cms-too-tall rucksack 😂 Hotel is surprisingly lovely, and my 'single room' actually has a luxurious double bed, it's just a slightly smaller room than some of the double rooms. Very jolly.
Conference is good. Highlights so far are lockable wet brolly storage at the entrance (much needed this morning 😂) and cadging a free lift from the airport with a contingent from another University who'd booked a coach 😂
main low point is lack of adequate tea 😱😂 Had to have earl grey at breakfast this morning, and the conference brought out an impressive array of wine at lunchtime, but no tea until 4pm, and then only with not-hot-enough water and warm milk 😂
Hey ho. I have a fridge in my room, and there is bizarrely an aldi round the corner, so I have been doling out tea bags and rations of milk to my colleagues 😂😂
Had a pistachio pizza for tea last night, and tonight we went on a tram to an older area of the town where there was a food court in a big market hall. Very jolly and enough for awkward veggies like me 😁 They were playing Bon Jovi over the sound system 😂
I'm presenting tomorrow, so have spent a couple of hours this evening knocking several minutes off my talk - I'm now fearing i might have gone too far in the wrong direction and basically be saying nothing 😂
But I really must go to sleep!9 -
Thanks! Think I have everything I need to make that!Hope your talk goes well tomorrow. I’m sure that you know your subject well enough that if you keep an eye on the clock/countdown timer you’ll be able to adjust as you go.3

Hope your talk goes well tomorrow x3

Thanks both xx
I'm not sure being rather violently sick and awake for an hour will have helped things 🙄😂 I probably ate a bit much, but I usually have a pretty strong constitution. Woke with dreadful heartburn, got all hot and bothered, and then was sick. Urgh. Feeling a bit better since though, although wishing I had some bread! All I've got in the way of food is some chocolate (probably part of the problem in the first place...) and some lemon yogurts, which I thought were peach 🙄😂
So I imagine it's going to be a rather tiring day... 🙄 Still, at least I am presenting at 10am and can always come back to bed if necessary! Certainly think I'll be giving tomorrow's cocktail reception a miss...
Right, going to attempt to go back to sleep. Can't quite believe how much it's raining!6 -

Thanks. I've woken up every hour or so since then, which is annoying, but have at least had some sleep in between.
Being really annoyed by my throat - feels like I've got something like a nut stuck in it. I imagine I haven't - it's likely just irritated from heartburn/being sick, but it's a really unpleasant sensation. Doesn't hurt at all until I swallow, then really feels like there's something stuck.
But it's not affecting breathing, and I've coughed and coughed, and tried eating yogurt and a bit of flapjack I bought in the airport and forgot about, and it's not shifting at all, so I assume just irritation. But really irritating irritation!
Might try for another half hour of kip before breakfast. Won't be the worst thing if I miss the opening plenary (although it's in Spanish and I wanted to try out the translation machines!)6
