  • Got a letter from the Co-Op bank today (29/2) about my new regular saver. The letter says it's paying fixed interest of 7%. Checked on their website and it definitely say variable interest.

What's a saver to do ? Hope for best and expect for the worst ?

Thanks for spotting that. I didn't notice it myself. I would keep the letter and complain if they drop the rate within the 12 months.

Has anybody opened a Cashminder account and then a Regular saver with Co-op?
T&Cs of RS on the website says Cashminder current account is acceptable, but someone on the forum got rejected for RS, saying Cashminder acct is not acceptable.

Anyone else has got a different experience?
  • I had no issues opening the Regular Saver with my Cashminder account. I've had the account many years, although I don't keep any money in it. I received an email when I made the application on their website, then the account appeared in my online banking a week later.

I'm getting the feeling it's a case of bank launches new account, loads of people want it so get  applications for the current account then later get applications for the savings account (& tbh people probably don't really want the current account in the 1st place just the savings account but hey that's the condition the banks put on getting the savings account) once it's approved.

Basically bank can't cope with demand so everything gets delayed. It's not just a Co Op thing.

Maybe CO Op prioritising certain customers?, hard to tell tbh.

I'm a brand new customer so had to get the Current account, which I got recently, had to wait about a week, then I tried to register for online/mobile banking through the app, that was messy, like who the hell knows the date when they opened one of their bank accounts other than Experian? (who set CO Op Bank security questions) , I have multiple bank accounts I don't keep a record of every single 1 opened etc, jeez.

So I had to ring up CO Op Bank and get them to do sensible security questions with me, they did and got setup easily, honestly don't really understand why they have things setup like that, they said something along the lines of your account is so new things aren't processed properly yet.

I applied for regular Saver 5 days ago, a Select Access Saver & a Online Saver 3 days ago, had no updates on any by email/app.

    Hopefully I'll get updates soon.

What I don't get is why I had to complete all my details from scratch to apply for the regular Saver when I was logged in to the app, don't think I had to when applying for at least one of the other savings accounts.

    So again messy.

Like with other banks/building societies you login and when applying they already have your details so applying is therefore quicker you just look at the form to check rather than type everything out.

If there is a next time anyone asks you when you opened an account: just look it up in Experian, They have a complete list of your open and closed current accounts with an Account Started date. Free access to your Experian report via the MSE Credit Club

It just seems a ridiculous question to ask, don't think I've ever been asked the exact date I opened an account before (just to register online/app) and to choose from a list of 4 I think I was offered only to be told can't verify call the bank.

Had I known that was going to be a thing I would have gone straight to ringing them up.

I'm so used to having digital things (username, password, codes by email/text) , even things sent by post (verification code).

This wasn't the best of starts with co op hopefully it will get better

Hi James ... had a similar experience to you, perhaps with slightly shorter timescales.

I found that you could let the bank account question time out and then try to register again with different date options given. My regular saver appeared in online banking the following day and I was able to transfer in to it, although the e-mail/letter arrived days later.

I get the waiting for accounts, it's the signing up for online/app that threw me to be honest.

I don't know if I failed on the dates or there wasn't enough data on me anyways.

Like they also asked for a previous postcode.

Yeah I tried a few times before ringing.

Should have just done that straight away.

Rather just do things easy/easier way to start with tbh.

It's like requesting a refund with ASDA they tell you to do the online form, a few times that form hasn't worked so ended up ringing them to get refunded, in short digital isn't always best

Just rang Co Op, so it seems you can't just get through to savings team?, instead somebody has to email to chase applications up?, this really isn't going well.

I explained that I want to start saving but only seem to have a reference number for one of the other savings accounts I applied for but gave a list of dates and account types applied for, guy said do you want to push for Regular Saver?, I said yes because it's the most important.

I'm really not sure what's going on to be honest & there's at least 1 poster that seems to have had the regular Saver approved quickly.

I've had no updates on mine hence why I'm trying to chase it up.
