Have they now also stopped being able to just top up the account from your account balance? My mum has £29 credit with next top up due in July...

Just went to top up by £10 now fully expecting to be told "as you have credit we can use that" as previously, but now it's not giving that option & just going straight to the top up using debit card option!!!

Can you no longer top up using unused credit?

    Absolute joke if so!
You shouldn't actually need to topup. As I understand it 1p will just round up the 3 month's usage to £10 and deduct the remainder from your credit. This will happen until your credit reaches £0 or you don't have enough credit balance to pay the roundup. Then they give you a brief window to topup again. So depending on your usage it may actually be a slight improvement, although I don't think many customers will benefit.
Ah ok, so if I do nothing in July they will just take £10 from the current £29 credit from my mum's account. I don't have to manually do it to trigger another 120 days (or 90 days if that's the new top up period)

    That seems to be what it is saying;

    1pMobile Terms and Conditions

    Effective from 08 February 2024

These Terms and Conditions constitute an Agreement ('Agreement') between you, the end user, and Telecommunications Management Limited trading as 1pMobile 1pMobile in relation to 1pMobile's pay-as-you-go service. These Terms and Conditions also constitute an Agreement between the you and Utility Warehouse Limited in relation to the 1pMobile Data Boost services.

You should read these terms carefully. By using the Service(s) you will be deemed to have accepted, and will be bound by, these Terms....
3 PAYMENT, TOP-UP AND SPEND REQUIREMENT
      1. For customers who are not taking a Boost/bundle (i. e. pure PAYG customers)
        1. Your 1pMobile service is subject to a minimum spend on calls, text, data and Boosts of £10 every 90 days. If your actual spend during any 90-day billing period is below £10, we will deduct the shortfall from the credit balance on your account; your usage period runs on a 90-day cycle from the Commencement Date, or for customers whose Commencement Date is before 1 February 2024 the date notified to you. If we are unable to collect the shortfall because your credit balance is insufficient for us to do so, then your service will immediately be suspended until (i) the date you top-up your 1pMobile account, and (ii) 10 days have elapsed (in which case we will close your 1pMobile account and your mobile number will be disconnected), whichever shall come earlier. In addition, if the balance on your 1pMobile account falls to zero and you do not make a top-up within the following 10 days, then we will close your 1pMobile account and your mobile number will be disconnected."

The problem that you have got is that you are going to be left with £9 in about 9 months time, so will need to topup then, and I don't think you can topup £11.01 so you are likely to be stuck with £9 you cannot use (unless she spends more than £10 in one of the three month windows which would seem unlikely. Let me guess that she topped up £30 for a year and has used £1 so far?

Are there any other providers who piggy back off EE that you can just use as a basic PAYG SIM without the need to top up unless your extremely low on credit?
    Yes, rwg.
    https://www.rwgmobile.wales/webshop/offers/order-a-sim/

    Pay £1, rates are 5p/5p/1p.
Requirement is one call or text every 90 days. Otherwise sim will be restricted and you can call them to reactivate. Minimum topup after initial £1 is £5 by website, text, or nowmobile voucher.

    Otherwise there is lyca....
But RWG don't offer wifi calling on their basic EE network offering.  So if like me, stuck with a regular "network fault" meaing the one mast serving our house keeps going wrong, you would be stuck with a phone that does not work at home.

That is the one thing that stops me switching my main phone to RWG.
  • If all you are using it for, is phone calls and text messages, switch to ASDA Talk & Text, for £4 per month.

Not a lot to be gained moving from £3.33 pm to £4 pm except to say goodbye to 1pmobile.
And you also need to check vodafone's signal strength.

  • I'm using them for a car tracker, hence I make no calls, and only make the occasional text from it, when I check it is still working.

How does this new rule affect me, if at all?
  • Reading everyone’s useful comments, I still don’t get what happens if you are on a 1p Mobile one month £3 data boost and you get to having zero normal credit ( for calls and texts ) while still on the boost ?

Do you have to top up or can you wait till the boost finishes?

My understanding is that you can wait till the boost finishes, as the bit about cutting you off if zero balance is under the "pure PAYG" bit. But best check with them if it's important. Or keep an eye on emails, they should warn you before cutting you off!
