1p mobile now introducing £10 charge every 90 days

It always has been, you've always had to top up £10 every 4 months. People who've been using it for "emergencies only" must have a massive credit balance now, the new rules mean they'll start using that balance and not have to topup until it's used. What else were they going to do with the balance? I don't think you can ask for a refund.reddwarf2002 said:1p mobile turning into 10pound mobile.0 -
1pMobile are very good in my view but NOT suitable for those who want a phone to put in their car glovebox to use every 18 months when they have a breakdown! I'm not sure which provider is good for that but I wouldn't blame any provider for not wanting customers who pay them next to nothing.
Actually, thinking about it RWG might be a good option for those who'll use it very infrequently as you can get a prepaid SIM that lasts for ages with them

1pmobile had offered customers the option to sacrifice £10 credit to extend their service by 120 days, and a few years ago they had a policy of rounding up to £2.50 every month which meant you had no credit left after 120 days even if you hadn't used the phone at all. My usage was more like 25p per month.zagfles said:

Tesco lite apparently count a missed call as a qualifying outbound call, so as long as you prank call your main number every three months service should continue, according to the experience of another forumite who got free credit for the hassle of having to ask to be put on the lite tariff.Murmansk said:1pMobile are very good in my view but NOT suitable for those who want a phone to put in their car glovebox to use every 18 months when they have a breakdown! I have an RWG sim on a "recreational phone" (one that is mainly used for navigation on a boat, and walking) The RWG sim was bought when you could still pay £15 for a forever sim with a small data and calls allowance each month.savergrant said:

2 years in and it is still working, and I make a call and text each month to my main phone just to keep it in use.
I only want the sim for a small amount of data when I am using the phone (weather forecasts etc) and as a spare phone should my main phone not be working for any reason.0 -
So basically the same as now. Except you sacrifice £10 every 90 days instead of 120 if you don't use it.savergrant said:

For customers who are taking a Boost/bundle
- In order to remain a customer of our Boost Sservice, you must pay us the monthly amounts set out in your contract. If you fail to pay the monthly Boost charge, your Service will revert to our Pay-as-you-go service.
- If all Boosts have ended you will revert to the standard PAYG requirements as set out above, with the 90 day usage period starting from the day after the Boost ended.
Does anyone know if the 90 day cycle is reset when you buy a Boost or do the remaining of the 90 days commence once all Boosts expire, and the amount not spent of the £10 minimum spend then taken from your credit?0 -
So, I don't understand what's happening now...I just had my 1Gb data only boost renewed for £3.00, the money was taken from my debit cardThere is £3.70 in my 1p account, I was expecting £3.00 to be taken from this and then a £10 auto top-up from my debit card. This is what has happened in the past.
So, am I expected to pay 3x£3.00 for the boosts AND top-up £10 every 90 days.
Or what?0 -
No, there's no requirement to top-up, only to have enough credit for the £10 minimum spend / Boost renewal. The Boost should have been taken from your credit...alanwsg said:So, I don't understand what's happening now...I just had my 1Gb data only boost renewed for £3.00, the money was taken from my debit cardThere is £3.70 in my 1p account, I was expecting £3.00 to be taken from this and then a £10 auto top-up from my debit card. Yes, but it wasn't. That's pretty much my point.SourceEncoder said:No, there's no requirement to top-up, only to have enough credit for the £10 minimum spend / Boost renewal. The Boost should have been taken from your credit...0
