Apply in maiden name, get name changed after by presenting marriage certificate in branch. Then switch.
Don't switch during application. Obtain account in maiden name, then once set up, change name in branch. Then switch. This would work if her old account is also in her previous name. So old CA, New CA and passport all match. But would it work if she has her new name on the old account? You need the name to match ID to get the account open, so open account with that name. You need the name to match the old account for the switch to work so change the name after the new account is open. (Unless the old account is still in her maiden name, in which case switch as is, then change the name after if desired.)My Mother had similar issues but interestingly you can put a different name when filling in the switch form. Now why this option even exists is beyond me...but it worked! So account opened in her Maiden name (matching passport) but the switch was made from an account in her married name by putting that name in the switch form. In the interim we are trying to change the name but Natwest make such a fuss about it. (Marriage cert bring to branch etc)I can't say this will work for all but it did for us. Might be worth a try; the switch will either go through or fail. if it fails then can be repeated once the name is changed etc.1 -
RBS - Applied and completed Hooyu ID confirmation on 12th March, confirmation straight away, account switched yesterday (20th). Not used app or made deposit yet.
Natwest - Applied on 11th March, rejected as Hooyu selfie wasn't clear (despite Hooyu saying it was fine). Reapplied 15th, got a clearer selfie, accepted 18th, switch will complete 26th.
Ulster - Applied on 12th, completed Hooyu on 13th which passed, received paper ID request on 16th, which I have ignored as plenty of people have said they received these but weren't necessary. It's now the 21st, I haven't received an email or text message with any more information. I know Ulster are slower than the other two, but when did everyone start getting confirmation from Ulster, or did the card and PIN just start arriving? How long should I wait until I email and ask them for an update? I know patience is paramount with Ulster, I just want to know how much is required (I imagine all of it!). Also Chase haven't been in touch saying the switch has started or shown those details in app like they have for RBS and NW.

Just had a text message from Ulster asking me to do their ID thing, did their live photo thing, I don't have photo ID or whatever else, oh well.
Did notice it said the live photo was marked mandatory but the other ID wasn't though, hmm
So do you not need to do both?0 -
First of all thanks to everyone for the good info in this thread. I successfully completed the RBS switch and got the £200. I am now going to attempt the other two and just cross my fingers I can get the rewards. This however was my first switch and I have a question on switching for the more experienced here on the process.
Question : Let's say I have three current accounts with the Halifax. When I log into their online banking I see three seperate accounts for the current accounts. One of these I want to keep as its my main account that I use daily and is linked to multiple things, the other two I am wanting to use for a switch. If I switch out one of the ones I dont need anymore will it affect the other two accounts? Will halifax close the others as part of the switch or will they remain completely unaffected along with my online banking access?
I realise the answer is probably simple here, but its hard to find authoritative information on this and I appreciate all replies. Thanks.

Just wondering, i am just waiting for my savings payout from the Coop switch and the switch offer for TSB (both of which should be paid by 29th in theory, given that its a bank holiday have a feeling may be later than that.
I want to give the Natwest one ago, however in case it is pulled by time the other two pay out, is it worth giving it a go starting the application process now? can you submit the application for the switch after the fact, if not do they let you chose a switch date (as i recall from RBS in the past wasn't given an option to chose before?) and will the bank hols affect the 7day switch timescale (if so moving it 2 more days later than it would be if next friday and following monday were not a bank holiday??)MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0
