For illustration/comparison purposes what region of the country do you reside?
I'm in the east - which I think may actually be one of the cheaper areas!

Furthermore, it would also then be easy to see how much profit companies are making from the sc!
Well the profit from the SVT overall (unit rate and standing charge) is capped at 2.something%

If the standing charge were evened out across the country it would actually have the opposite effect of obscuring how much profit they might be making from a flat national SC, due to the variable costs of maintaining the infrastructure in different regions.

Taken from top screenshot I posted, have been No Standing Charge Tariffs on other business bands as well.
    Description

This tariff offers you the flexibility to pay only when you consume energy, avoiding paying any fixed costs if you are not consuming energy

So, you're not on this tariff and its not for ultra-low users since it is Octopus Band 2 which requires a minimum annual usage of 3572kWh. Correct?

No indication was made that I am on that tariff, merely said as ultra low user I find those rates appealing.

But those rates are NOT available to ultra-low users. Unless you consider 3572kWh per year ultra low?

Yesterday you said    "and once the market opens up a bit, we'll probably end up with laddered pricing, so the first x kWh will be more expensive. ie. the SC in all but name"

Use of the word probably clearly not correct as i have given example of an energy supplier with a tariff offering average regional SC and unit rate to consumers.

If put together principles Octopus have stated on business blog -

"Some customers place more demand on the grid than others. Bands make sure that these customers contribute a fair amount to keeping the grid running"

with principles stated in public re domestic customers

“It’s not right that a meter can rack up hundreds of pounds a year even when the customer is hardly using any energy"

Banding SC for domestic customer would appear a fairer method ( Before someone says it fairer for who low users - Yes)

Obviously Band 1 for domestic users would be a lot lower than 3572kWh per year, could start at anything from 0 usage upwards with kWh rate set appropriately - Higher users with medical problems could get account credit assistance.

Not really related to Fuse Energy, though, which is the subject of the thread.
I'm sure there's a "zero standing charges" thread where the debate would be better placed, if it needs to be pursued further.

I too am very disappointed with the hike in sc (and I might look to switch again). It was the sc that attracted me to Fuse, together with their fresh approach and green energy. Hopefully they are reading this thread and might reconsider. It would seem that the sc has gone up by about 10p per day more than I might have expected (taking into account the info supplied by OFCOM). Perhaps this is to pay for a new solar farm, but if this is the case, it would be nice if Fuse would let customers know this/justify the large increase.

Fuse Energy announced on X, February 1st "now a profitable company plus we are going to USA" by definition  pricing electricity only £50 below cap including much lower standing charges was not loss making.

i switched recently and it went very smoothly, the app is really good, probably the best i've seen with real time consumption from smart meter etc, tariff was the only one significantly cheaper than my previous supplier (eon next)

very happy so far but i havent had to deal with customer service so cant really opine on that side of things
