"They are vertically integrated, producing some (all?) of their own electricity." They generate their own electricity.

You do know that smart meters will be de facto compulsory at some point and they will change it to a smart meter when it reaches its best before certification date. Why give yourself the hassle with uploading photos every month? Total PITA. Also you pay in full for your monthly usage.

I don't agree about smart meters unfortunately, having done actual physical calculations for an elderly relative based on his usage prior and past installation of "smart" meter, there's was a loss of (I think £0.24p per day) using everything identical (power usage, price, time etc).

Them smart meters is for one to feel better, as if they'd adjust their habits to save energy/money, but in IRL, nobody is going to be making a cuppa at 16:00, for their dinner at 6 in order to "save money", so it's waste of money, not just for the cost of the meter, installation etc, just a gimmick after-all…

Can only speak for myself, when on a tariff with higher rates 4pm-7pm have a cuppa prior to 4pm, either eat prior to 4pm or after 7pm.

I'm paying 8p/kWh for my electricity, on a tariff that's only available if you have a smart meter.

    That's a real saving of ~£400 a year vs. a good fix.

Edit for clarity: on a smart tariff We actually don't avoid the peak for dinner, just make sure other higher-use appliances aren't being used at that time (e.g. washing machine, dishwasher, electric shower) and still save many hundreds of £ per year.

To answer the thread title, yes.

I switched to Fuse, from EonNext on the 15th May. It all went smoothly and my smart meters were taken over by Fuse. They advised that the readings had been sent to Eon. I opted for Fuse's 13m May fix for gas and electricity. The tariff is better than the Eon fix I was on.

I received an e-mail this afternoon advising that the sum owing for May would be taken from my bank on the 5th June. Variable Direct Debit.

I don't like that there is no telephone contact number for Fuse. They seem to like "chat" only and that is initially a non intelligent bot!

    So far, so good.

huh, kept reading and almost swayed for a yes (Fuse), but the sentence before last… I'm not fond of no AI slop (ability to speak to a human, when need to)

(from Octopus ("dumb") meter AND no exit-fee tarif)

Fuse?- still on a 50/50, any other like:

    HomeEnergy?

    UtilityWarehouse?

    anything else to consider?

Exactly that! I use electricity when I need to, will NOT change my habits/routine to NOT to get stung by extra £0.10p for… lazy?- perhaps, but…

I think you may have misunderstood - although to be fair I didn't make it explicitly clear, so I apologise - my point was, we save hundreds of pounds every year because our smart meter allows us to access a dynamic smart tariff.

As in, we don't even have to avoid the peak to still save a lot of money on the tariff, just not do electricity-heavy things that don't need to be done then. Whereas dinner does need to be done in the peak for us, so we do it, and we still save money thanks to our smart meter allowing us to be on the tariff.

[We would save more if we did significantly change our usage and made better use of the cheaper times, but the current happy medium works for us.]

I am happy with Fuse, they offered me the cheapest fixed tariff
