poodlehorse wrote: »I agree totally with hostie about the merits of SW, WW I felt I was looking at points per thing and making unhealthy choices because they were the same points as a piece of fruit and you had to count fruit so it wasn't exactly encouraging the 5 a day thing (unless you just have them all veggies which gets a bit boring after a while) so I left there and never looked back. SW actively encourages healthy eating hence the focus on free fruit and veg and the addition of Healthy Extras which although limited amounts are necessary for health eg Calcium and Fibre. The nutritional research that SW has done is amazing and I used to work with the wife of one of their nutritional boffins, he was a Cambridge PhD with excellent credentials and would not have put his name to just anything, he is now on the payroll of SW although worked for a highly regarded research institute when I knew them. I knew he wrote for some slimming mag or another but not until I joined SW did I find out it was that one, to me that gave SW the gold seal of approval. It is possible to carry on eating processed food on SW and make poor choices but some people will always do that, but you are actively encouraged and educated in healthy eating, active lifestyle and positive thinking. SW really is like no other "diet club". I actually think this debate is for another thread and we should be leaving this one for the people who do believe in SW and want support and advice in following it. Some people have ironwills and will never need SW to lose weight but some do. Some people don't really like food that much and so seem to be able to cut it out easily and live on what I would consider a starvation diet. I have a hearty appetite which is healthily satisfied by food optimising. I have gone off plan occasionally mainly due to pregnancy and this time I allowed myself to forget about it for a few months while we went through a very stressful time, 2007 is not a year I will remember fondly. But I knew that I could get back on plan and shift the few pounds I had gained. This time I plan to stick to it for life, I am planning a new baby this year and I will stick with SW throughout as best I can and so long as my midwife and doctor agrees, not to lose weight but to not do what I did last time and binge in maltesers for 9 months. Cravings are hard to avoid but I know I could have eaten better than I did and SW will help me to put only good things into my body although I will allow myself to indulge of course and I won't use artificial sweetner in that time and wil stick to xylitol (birch sugar so totally natural, 60% the cals of sugar and anticavity!). The only thing I have issue with is the use of artificial sweeteners as I don't like them so I try and avoid them where I can even on the plan, I find that in savoury sauces where a bit of sweetness is needed I can often substitute with balsamic vinegar. Thankfully I don't have a particularly sweet tooth normally so I can avoid or reduce my use of them a fair bit and I avoid certain foods that I can't eat without sugar/sweetener eg Weetabix.
Thanx for posting that Poodle, i totally agrre on the artificial sweetener thing and hadn't come across Xylitol before so thanks again. In class she asked me if I were upset as all the other new members were dropping 4, 5 or 6lbs - I said not at all as i know that SW works and i was aware that i wasnt always making the best choices last week.
I have also done WW and my main reason for finishing it was that my memory isnt great so i found it hard to keep a tally of where i was without writing everything down. I also found it very limiting and often felt ravenous. SW on the other hand is easier to keep on top of, a tiny bit of thought each day it sorts itself out.
PS well done with the 3lb!!!:TPiggypoints - 207+£10 * Quidco - £95 * Tesco - 1095 * Sainsbugs - 4237I SHALL be debt free!!!!!:D

Hello :hello: I have just found this thread. I have been with SW since September and I have lost 20 lbs with a heck of a lot more to go. My problem at the moment is that I am off work with work related neck and back pain. I am finding it difficult to motivate myself into a proper routine like I do when I am at work.
Good luck to everyone.

Just looked up Optivita, my book is still in the car from last night so not sure if it is a HEB or not:
Kellogg's Optivita Berry Oat Crisp Cereal 28g
Original 5 Syns
Green 5 Syn

Good job I've only one more portion of Optivita left I'll have to find something different. 28g is not a lot !!!! Can eat w/meal toast but can't do without butter. Just need something quick for breakfast.0 -
It is a HEB according to this forum I have been browsing today:

Not sure if that makes it any easier for you.0 -
Just had the most yummy tea. I am always at a loss what to cook for both DS and myself. Not too bad if DH is here as I don't mind cooking two things then if I must but not when it is just the two of us. Anyway he loves pasta so I roasted off some mediterranean veg in frylight in the oven, I added some garlic in its skins and some dried Italian seasoning. Once tender I removed the garlic and tipped the lot into a deep sided frying pan, squeezed out the garlic cloves and added two tins of chopped tomatoes and a splash of balsamic (instead of sweetener). Boiled it off for a wee bit and adjusted the seasoning and then blitzed it with a handblender as otherwise DS wouldn't have gone near it LOL. Mixed it through some fusilli and it was so good. Of course being his usual difficult self DS decided tonight was the night he no longer liked pasta, but at least I enjoyed it and it was FREE. Since the oven was on I made some FREE chips too for snacking on later. Hee hee I always like to have my munchies planned out as I love to snack in the evenings.0
