Co Op Switch offer (seen 15th January 2024)

  • So, I applied to open a Co-Op account on the 15th, received my welcome pack on the 18th, did the switch on the 18th and received the PDF the same evening confirming I asked for the 29th as my preferred switch date.

My debit card arrived yesterday (20th).

I am a former Co-Op account holder and they were happy doing an electronic search.

Now just gotta wait until the switch is complete (i.e. my Santander is closed) before filling the three criteria and opening the saver account.

Made 3 applications on Friday night, two of which have been  acknowledged via email (nothing for the 2nd application) all given switch dates of 13th February.

Just wondering if anyone has had to do online selfies before application is completed
Yes i have had to do ID, got an email last week which had an online link which allowed me to upload 2 x id (take photo of drivers licence and utility bill) and take a selfie photo.

Submitted it through same day as had the email (thursday 18th pm) so waiting to hear more either way.  hopefully won't take too long. (initial application done on 17th January)

"My wife received a letter dated 17th Jan today, which is a hard copy of the second email she had already on the 17th. Switch was set for earliest possible date 9th February during her application, so we wait while the wheels grind inexorably on..."

And this morning my wife received the "Welcome" email with account details, so we'll give it a day or so and then set her account up online as there is no hurry, all is good.

Why not just apply online for the account today and start the switch rather than ringing people up? Least that way it's started and they can't argue you didn't apply in time or didn't initiate the switch in time

if this is aimed at me, I explained in an earlier post that I'm not currently in UK and wont be back for a while so I need to 'extend' the 30 days to make debit card purchases for as long as possible, by starting the switch as late as possible......
Not at anyone specifically, just multiple people ringing up a bank and complaining about call queues in order to do something that can be done online in minutes for the majority, which means more queue for you who can't do it that easily. Just seems to be an ongoing legacy of some not updating to a post-phone era - we see it at work, people ring up to ask things that are in the manual or done online. In a way, it's similar to all the forum posts, particularly with Barclays farce where people were asking questions about what was in the offer (even though it was explicitly detailed) or indeed on this post.

I got my email today with sort code and account number switch was stated to be done on the 12th Feb so I see no reason to ring or email or post questions about the bonus as it's already all explained. Register online, sort out the saver if it allows yet, once switched I will move in £1000, spend 5x on debit card, pay in the saver money and wait.

Or post 10x saying "has anyone has their bonus yet" ;)

  • Hello there, it's great to be here, I have often enjoyed reading the MSE forums, always useful to receive advice from people who are more knowledgeable than I am.

Like many of you, I was watching out for new bank switch offers (having already taken advantage of 4 others).  I feel really stupid asking this (I have always struggled with dates / numbers)...

... I noticed the cooperative bank switch offer on the 17th and applied for a new account at 1am on the same morning.  We then of course learnt only days later that the offer was being withdrawn from the 19th.  While making my application, I opted to switch from a Nationwide account I held (not my main account with them) to the new coop account.  I received notification that I was accepted on the 19th (subject to checks etc), the standardised email you have all received.  I then learnt on the 20th that I had formally been accepted and my new account was open.

My question is, does your eligibility to receive the switch incentive depend upon the date on which you first applied, or the date at which your account was formally opened?  If it is the latter, I'm worried that I missed the boat.

Beyond that, I noticed a few comments from people suggesting that they would wait until their switch had completed prior to opening the savings account... I didn't do that, I opened the savings account almost immediately after I was accepted for the current account.  I have not transferred any money into either account yet, however wonder if I've messed things up (it seems as if a very literal interpretation of the word 'following' in the terms might render my attempt to get the £100, and £150), in ruins haha.

At any rate, good luck everyone!

Hope it's ok to add, looking at other switch incentives that other banks / building societies offered at this time last year, I think it's quite possible that a few other offers will be introduced in the coming days and weeks.  In that way, I have opened another burner account (with Metro) in the hope I'll be able to move quickly to secure one of the others!  Trying not to mess with my credit rating tooooooooo much, although I noticed when completing the other switches last year that my credit rating returned to normal after only a couple of months, and is pretty good.

The terms of the switch are on page 1 which covers these - as you applied and started the switch before the offer was withdrawn, that is fine.

The savings account is for the bonus and the terms for this are on page 1 - you must have at least £25 in the savings account 45 days after your switch

  • Another 'Welcome' e-mail from the Co op, this one telling me to register online. And still no mention of switching.

Nothing from Barclays yet either. Hmmmm.....

Had the 'Welcome' e-mail today saying I can register for online banking, but it may take 24 hours before I can do so. It also mentioned that registering for online banking also registers you for the app. My plan of doing the app after the switch just in case their terms ("in the 30 days following the switch") are taken literally wont work so will probably delay doing that.

    Thanks, that's reassuring to read!
  • Well I received an email this morning welcoming me once again and providing an account number and sort code. I’ve successful registered online and the app, transferred a nominal £100 in which is now showing (took about 30 minutes).  All good so far. I’ve applied for the online savings account and received an email telling me they’re looking at it etc - just not as quick as many banks but not worried.

So, once I ensure another £900 is put in and hopefully the switch takes place from Barclays on 9 February I think I should be on course for £150 full bonus eventually.  The x5 debit payments are easy to make and there will be x2 DDs from the switching account.
