  • I’ve also just had a phone call from my nearest branch asking if I had everything I needed on the account I set up in December (refer a friend offer).  She also said that the switching offer is being withdrawn at close of business tomorrow as it has been so popular.

I've only just applied, so fingers crossed I can get this done in time. I have requested the switch during account opening, but it's saying 24 hours to 5 days for the checks, so not sure if it will happen or whether it would still count

    • How unfair to withdraw the offer so quickly when people who applied on day one are still waiting to open the bloody account. I’m furious!

I think it will be okay for those of us who have applied.  Section 6 of terms mentions this...

"You will not be eligible for, or qualify for this Offer after the expiry of the Offer Period unless your application to switch your main account to your Co-operative Bank current account was received prior to the expiry of the Offer Period."

Just been waiting 45 min to speak to someone on the phone asking specifically about the below part of the term.

1.5 Has not previously benefitted as a new customer from this, or any previous Co-operative Bank current account switch offers since 01/11/2022. This includes if a Refer a Friend referral form has been submitted and is due to be paid after this was made available.

The OH referred me last year and I did the switch and we both received the incentive. The above reads that if you not had a switch bonus since 01/11/2022 you are eligible. So I am not eligible as I had the switch incentive and had to submit the referral form. The OH basically did nothing except of giving me the card to write down account details.

According to the advisor, who didn't seem very confident and had to read the T&C's first, we both received an incentive and therefore we're both not eligible. I would still argue that their language is very ambiguous and that OH should be able to qualify.

Debating if we should still risk it and open a current account (OH only has a Cashminder account), get a hard search and switch Barclays in to see if the system would still pay but decided against it. Worst case it is as the advisor said, Coop has nothing else of interest, their saving rates are beyond bad and with Barclays there is always the option for another cashback incentive being launched or the Rainy Day Saver, which could become a strong contender again in the future.

Yes I read that part as,(in your example) your partner would be eligible, but not you.

The Coop advisor said no, my partner is not eligible. Sure, I could call again and wait again 45 min to see if a different advisor tells me different but there is no proof of it in the end and it could result in a complain, ombudsman, if they stand by it. Can't fight every battle.

I’m annoyed I didn’t initiate a switch at the time of applying for the account. I specifically didn’t do this because I didn’t have direct debits on the donor account yet. But how long to open a basic current account?!

But I thought you didn't need DD's on the donor account, I understood you could set them up at the Co-op?

And in the 30 calendar days following the switch completing, you must do the following with the account:

      • Have 2 Direct Debits or standing orders set up
    • Ah you’re right then, I was overzealous with worrying they might try to not pay out. Xx
