I woke up at 6am with a sore throat which is slowly developing into a cold. This is making me rather grumpy. I have had vitamin c and Vicks First Defence.
We have been into town, had a walk along the river and unsuccessfully tried to find a new fire grate as ours has a hole in it. I have had a go at cleaning the mini oven which is an awful task, it is so difficult to get it clean. There is also some ironing that must be done. Oh and we were having fajitas for tea but have discovered that we have no wraps despite passing several shops. Curry it is then.
It's still bitterly cold here and we have an amber weather warning for wind. We have also just noticed that we have a roof tile that has shifted slightly but there is nothing that can be done about that. No one is going to go up onto the roof this weekend and sort it out.
Day at home tomorrow for me too ASB. I am also contemplating flying!8 -
Flying goals achieved:
house dusted and vacc’d. Just realised that I forgot the downstairs loo but so be it.
ensuite and downstairs loo cleaned (*shudder* to the latter), bathroom s&s
wm x 2 done and draped
various other small jobs ticked off - birthday present wrapped etc.
Now making a rice pudding with some soon to be OOD UHT milk that I found. That’s my excuse for the rice pudding anyway.
I have a list already for tomorrow, including trying to set some time aside for a sewing session.
Piggers - spare spoons coming your way, if they are of any use. I’m warning Round to duck as they whizz past her.7 -

The timer on my boiler has died.. I can either manually turn the boiler off/on as needed or buy a new one because they discontinued the parts a few months ago.

OK so I am officially mad.........in my yellow fluorescent hat. It was fantastic!
I came back on a real high, or maybe that was the bacon sarnie and 2 cups of coffee! My day improved when the fire I ordered for the lounge arrived. It looks great and we are pleased with it. Putting it in place involved furniture tetris and revealed large quantities of dust and spiders, so the flying took place to a good level with vacuuming, polishing and dusting in the lounge. While I was about it, I vacuumed the hall and kitchen as well.
Mr N has finished his packing for South Africa and is looking for "quick fixes" around the house to keep him busy; at last the tie-backs for my study curtains are in place. We have also, between us, carried the enormous bag of confidential waste to the garage to get it out of my way in the study - the wind keeps being in the wrong direction for a bonfire. I'm frantically thinking of all the things I might need to know when he is away - not sexist but we tend to work to our own strengths so he is the DIY person (as a former motorbike technician and engineer) while I am the IT person. I know where the stopcock and the fuses are........and there is always YouT$be or Roundtuit for plumbing advice.
I really need to do some more report writing and some drum practice. I've done some knitting and have planned dinner.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.8 -
@YORKSHIRELASS I hope your sore throat/cold symptoms ease v. quickly.
@pigpen I hope your boiler gets fixed PDQ! Although (at least here, on the South Coast) it's been a lot milder today compared with the last week so it's not as bitter as it has been.. xxx
@Narc0lepsy - You are defo mad! Why do you do that????!!!!
Have done stuff today i.e.:- Did a light clean of the bathroom
- Put a lot of recycling out in the appropriate bin.
- Dusted the living room surfaces and swept the floor
- Swept the kitchen floor
- Had DGD visit for an hour or so while DD took the dog for a long walk. I swear DGD has grown at least two inches in the last week - mentioned the apparent growth to DD and she agreed that there seem to be changes particularly in her face and her height. (She is eight and a half years old so I'm guessing some sort of growth spurt is going on).
- Took a drive out to B&Q with DS (he doesn't drive so Mum acts as chauffeur in such circumstances but I don't mind at all) but I chose to stay in the car and attempt a crossword puzzle I'd printed off rather than slow him down as he went here, there and everywhere to find the bits he needs because I didn't need anything. It was a good call. He was back far quicker than if he'd had to have me along to slow him down...
Good news is my liver function is fine, my cholesterol levels are fine (which is interesting, because I've always eaten the full-fat cheese, full-fat milk stuff!) and my kidney function is fine. Seems it's just the BP I need to be concerned about at this particular time... Hopefully the BP pills I am taking will start stabilising things v. soon.
Have a lovely evening peeps and thank you for reading xxxx

Narco that is ace!!! Well done you! X
YL sorry you’re feeling poorly, cosy up love xx
Film was fantastic. We had a lovely walk around the town, and the kids bought an ice cream each from a little cafe. They did get strange looks walking round eating a Mr Whippy in January! Cinema is tiny and lovely, the whole building is a converted old train station.Home via Lidl 💵💵🙄 and had a picky tea. DD is upset tonight, all stuff to do with their dad, it annoys but I refuse to be his messenger and if he is changing plans he needs to tell them, not expect me to do so and also deal with their upset! Anyway, stuffing all that back in its box.Bed now with book and HWB. Amber wind warning here too so I have power cut prepped again. Will spring hurry up please.Taking kids swimming in the morning and then visiting a friend for a cuppa. Stay warm and dry all xx7 -
Evening all. Our internet connection is still far from perfect, grrr!
Today I have done a 4-bag shop which hopefully will see us through until the end of the month - except for milk, and possibly bread and some types of veg - and taken 2 small carrier bags full of SW recipe books and other unwanted bits and pieces to the CS. I also bought a newspaper because it included a free NT pass (£2 for the rag is a lot cheaper than paying full-price entry for K and the girls), and another page had a good offer on a collection of bearded iris, so I might treat myself: I had budgeted a small amount for the garden this month, so still keeping to low-spend January.
Rosie got her walk after lunch as usual, but I admit to having spent most of the rest of the afternoon asleep on the sofa. I was still very tired after the bad night on Thurs/Friday when I had very little sleep. I'm still aiming for an early night tonight, but first I must look through my reading for church tomorrow and also try to file some ancestors, rather than leaving them sprawled across the spare bed.
Hope everyone sleeps through, undisturbed by the storm. The wind is beginning to pick up here.

Getting windier here in North Devon too. My huge ironing pile is done, I thought doing it in one go at yhe weekend would be better, but absolutely notMarried 40y.o. mum of an autistic 11y.o. Carer/SAHM.
