60 odd has been sent out into the world via WBB. I hope they find nice new homes. Books should be read. I've got a pile for Z too but given up for today. The cats do not like my using boxes for books.Extra waste collection booked - still cheaper than skips or a new tyre.Booked for new tyres and brake pads.
spendy day again, but the books offset the waste thing and the tyres have needed doing since my MOT.Chicken and pea risotto. Tasty and very filling. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Oh redo! I have such admiration for how you've been coping.I'm afraid your cats are right about the books. Boxes should only be used as feline hideaways - although this often doesn't work as little furry ears tend to stick up above the box giving the whole lark away.....Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

And what a surprise, no power again this morning. If it stays off for three hours we may actually qualify for compensation.Rudely woken by a lonely dog at 3am, and then couldn't get back to sleep. She started crying again half an hour ago so I gave up and got up.Hurrah (again) for the gas hob so I have coffee, the charged power banks and sensible me who had a torch at the bedside and workshop lamps at the top of the stairs. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Is this no power thing a typical thing for your area? I would be raging by now! I’m glad you have a coffe at least. Hugs to you and gentle scritches to the dog x

Sorry to hear about the power and the dog. I’ve been woken by rampaging cats. This is the third time and both of them, so I may give in and give them breakfast.Well done on the books, bins, tyres, and being prepared for the power cuts.6

I can only remember three occasions in 17 years where we have had no power. The first time I was on my own with the littles and had no torches etc - I hate the dark and after that we made sure we are set up for it. Second was an underground failure outside and they dug up the whole street. This is the first repeated failure, assume something got struck by lightening as the mobile signal is affected too. I am glad I am not working or it would be very painful. I could go out if I was really bothered. It's the older people I feel sorry for, it's not particularly warm and if they replaced landline with mobile then very isolating.More coffee made. It's light enough to see now at least. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Talk of power cuts is reminding me I don't have a torch. I should buy one. I'll add it to my growing list of needs (awaiting payday 😄🤣).
I should buy emergency stash of chocolate too. But my daughter has a skill of sniffing it out wherever I hide it.MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06. Talk of power cuts made me grateful this morning I live near a high speed railway. The railway is due compensation if the power goes off so after the 3 hour period, of if intermittent like you are suffering, a generator is provided and the generator powers the hamlet too. It is a win for us.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!6 -
so so sorry to read about your loss, you must still be in shock.
Glad you managing to somehow slowly clearly all the admin ahead of you amidst it all. Hopefully at least the death cleaning conversations have given you clarity on what he wanted (I do like the druid stone circle idea tbh)
Hoping the new cat will give you extra cuddles.DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.
