A further solid vote here for buying stuff you actually want to eat, and more to the point, not NOT buying the stuff you actually want to eat because of some misguided idea that you should opt for something cheaper!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Ugh, there have been so many times that I have bought the cheap healthy foods I don't really fancy and then ended up surviving on cheap unhealthy foods I do fancy rather than spend a little more to eat well. My life became exponentially better when I could afford fruit and veg other than carrots, bananas, onions, tinned peaches and raisins.Save £12k in 2025 #33 £2531.77/£5000 (If this carries on I might have to up my target!)

redofromstart said:Realistically though I can't see that I have much choice but to eat better when a week of eating everything I fancied (plus the odd prosecco) added up to a 6.5lb gain and some painful IBS/Fibro consequences, despite all of the exercise. Green salad stuff and an apple as part of lunch today. I have some strawberries out warming up for later - they actually smell like strawberries so I hope they are nice. There is some 5% mince that needs using today so either open burgers with wedges, salad and HM coleslaw, or cottage pie, broccoli and carrots as I have lots of too small for jackets potatoes to use up.
Rain again here, so I need to do so downstairs tidying as people may invite themselves over after the tree planting thing.
I've taken to adding fruit to breakfast cereal (I have it if I have a hotel breakfast but don't have enough fruit otherwise so it seemed like a win/win: healthier and more indulged IYSWIM). It used to be blueberries, then bananas, now pear. Delicious. I'm so looking forward to peak strawberry season!
Is the tree planting happening today? I hope the little tree likes its new place and becomes a thing of joy.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

@KeepOnKnitting yes, done that too. 101 ways to serve carrot and trying to find the ones that make them not taste like cheap carrots. Home grown ones on the other hand are just lovely - very much on the plans here this year.
@Alchemilla it was worth paying the extra for the nice smelling strawberries, and DS1 had some too because of the smell.
@greenbee so many times that I have done that over the years, even in recent months. Buy (and eat) things I like should be obvious really but instead I make expensive compost.
@Cherryfudge it was today, but I was supposed to be out yesterday till a migraine stopped play so I never did tidy up.
Today has been rather busy for me, a trip into the university town to pick up frozen part baked pretzels from MrL, hairdressers for de-badgering, and then the tree planting thing. Pleased to say it was a good sized tree (rather than the tiny whips that the previous owners planted) and the slate plaque is perfect complete with 'I am the stars that shine'. They are happy with my many snowdrops plan too. Took the boys for a burger afterwards so I don't even need to cook tonight.

So glad it went okay and the tree and plaque meet your (and Mr Redo's) approval. Excellent idea to not have to cook tonight. Hope you have cosy/indulgent treats this evening x6

Sounds perfect .. plaque and the treeDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.
