I think I might look out for The Salt Path now - I'm intrigued. I'm definitely a book person more than a film person but I like @badmemory's take on it. Whichever way you first encounter a story tends to stick as the 'right way'. Despite being a book person, I saw The Color Purple as a film and was bowled over, Then I got the book and gave up part way.

You read so many, perhaps you should start a book club thread!

I much prefer to read the book first. I think I see it as the original work, so following it up with the film is for me, seeing what has been done with the book.

I was planning on watching The Salt Path this week but might save £££ and wait for it to come to a small screen instead, I'd been looking forward to the film too.

Oh no I didn’t mean to spoil it for you ☹️I still think it’s worth seeing even if it’s just for the brilliant filming of the scenery, it’s a beautiful film and I caught myself getting a bit teary just watching some of the shots of the surrounding countryside. It really made me appreciate we here we live that’s for sure. My daughter thought it would have been a good idea for the character of Raynor Winn to have narrated over the scenes where there was no dialogue. I get that they couldn’t fit it all in otherwise the full m would be about four hours long 😳

You deserve your quiet day tomorrow - you've fitted enough in recently. I'm glad to hear your appointment went well and you've been able to meet up with your daughters.

I agree about the Salt Path.  It was good but missed so much out.
Yeah , I think if you just see the film it would be ok but if you’ve read the book you will notice all the bits they left out. I’m going to read it again now to remind myself 😀 I’ve got all three books and they are part of the small selection of books that I didn’t declutter along with my Rivers of London series. Luckily they have been kept in sealed plastic box so havent been damaged by any mould that was in the house

I try to avoid watching anything I've read or reading anything I've watched as somehow they always seem to be a bit of a disappointment.  I would enjoy both I'm sure if only they hadn't become linked in my head.
I don’t normally watch films of books but I really wanted to see this just to see how they had done it really.

I agree about the Salt Path. Not nearly as good as the book, but my friend who hadn’t read the book seemed to enjoy it more than I did as she had no comparison to make.
Yeah I think people who haven’t read the book will possibly enjoy it more than those who have because it’s a beautiful film on its own so long s you don’t realise why’s missing 😀

The book is definitely worth reading, it’s one of my most favourite books ever. DD1 bought a signed copy home from a holiday in Cornwall and when she told me what it was about I thought it sounded really depressing and boring but i decided to read it anyway because she is a good judge of good books and i loved it so much I’ve now read all three books and they are among the very small selection of books I’ve kept after decluttering most of my books.
I’ve seen the Film of The Colour Purple and read the book and loved both 😀

Although I read a lot I don’t think I know enough about books to be able to do a book club thread 😀
