I’d really get some support from your local services about filling the forms in, here our local carers group will help you.  You might get low rate care and low rate mobility which will all help you pay for extras like taxis etc etc

I could talk you through it if you want to message me ?

Hopefully you’ll get the pension and the benefits sorted soon. Have you contacted HR to check your sick pay has actually come to an end and it’s not just an admin mistake. I had notice when mine stopped.

I agree that you are inspirational with all that you get done, @Onebrokelady. Your bedroom sounds lovely. A new carpet always feels so luxurious, doesn't it? It sounds as though you have started the ball rolling with making that pension phone call. At least you know you are capable of living frugally & not wasting money. It must be a real shock to the system for those people who are not. I think the benefits system sounds like a bit of a minefield, but it's worth claiming everything you are entitled to. I'm glad to hear the person you spoke to was helpful. It makes such a difference, doesn't it?

Awww thanks Foxgloves 🙂 I’m loving my new carpet and the bedroom, last night I switched the light off to go to sleep and I had to switch it back on again to admire the bedroom 😀it took a long time to get it done but it’s done now so I can relax for a few days before getting going again.
I hate having to deal with the benefits system as I feel like it’s set up to trip you up. I used to claim child tax credit when my children were young enough and I can remember  the relief of not knowing I didn’t have to claim it anymore , no more justifying myself to the benefits people . It’s even more of a pain in the backside now so I’m not looking forward to it at all. For instance they wanted to know how many savings accounts I have and I have three but one of those is the money input aside top pay my water bill every quarter,I move it into savings from my current account so I don’t accidentally spend it but they will just see that as savings 🙄

Have you posted your situation on the benefits board? Lots of knowledgeable people there will be able to help you work out what you can apply for, and how

No I haven’t yet but I will do. I’ve posted on a FB group I’m on and some one on there has given me lots of info on what I should be able to claim

I think it’s more a case of no one noticed until this colleague pointed it out to my GP
Eek. Perhaps that's grounds to complain?

I’m not sure I’m eligible for PIP because I can take care of myself, I don’t need help with any of the things they ask about
Remember you have days when you just need to sleep and where essential shopping is a huge task - so yes, absolutely you are looking after yourself, but it takes more out of you than it does for many people, so perhaps you deserve to have a little extra in the funds for things like getting a taxi instead of a bus?
I know I’m wondering if a complaint needs to be made  to be honest but the trouble with working for the NHS is I don’t like to complain about it 😀

Yes you're right I forget that I have days where I sleep all day, I’ve been doing that for so long it’s just normal for me

Thanks I would like to talk to someone who knows the ins and outs. I think I’m having trouble thinking of myself as someone who might need these things.

I haven’t contacted anyone yet. My boss is meant to be arranging a long term sickness meeting with HR and said she would be in touch but I haven’t heard anything. They have probably emailed me via the work email but I can’t access it so don’t get the messages. I’ve given my boss my personal email so she can contact me but HR don’t have it. I will phone them on Monday and ask them what is going on.
