Sun_Addict said:I’ve always been a morning person and like to be up by 5am. However this means I struggle to stay awake beyond 9pm. So I miss all the good TV programmes that seem to start at 9 🤣"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". And me! If I stay in bed even an extra hour, that usually means a muzzy head for the rest of the day. An extra couple of hours (which would only be till 8.15 ish) & that can often mean a full-on headache. I love early mornings though, so not a problem.

Seasidegal58 said:I've finally caught up with your diary OBL and please accept my very belated condolences on the passing of your dear Dad. It sounded a horrendous time for you and your Mum what with all the family drama. I think you coped with it all very well and with dignity. You've also seemed to have turned a bit of a corner healthwise and long may it continue. I do admire you with all that you manage to do around the house. It can't be easy.Re. Christmas gift lists - I have a. Christmas Gift app that I downloaded for free from the App Store a couple of years ago. It's really handy as you can set your budget and then allocate each person an amount and record your gifts as you buy them - what they are, how much they cost, where you bought them etc. You can even note when you've wrapped them! I also put in a category for general Christmas miscellany - cards, wrap, stamps, any new decs. There are quite a few different types on the App Store though you do have to pay for some of them.I love the idea of the Christmas app 🙂 I’m just starting to use my phone more for lists of things I have to do or for shopping, I have a notebook that I note down any ideas that pop into my head because my memory is rubbish then I pick out the things from that to add to my phone when I know I’m going out anywhereOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1205

Woke up at 9 today so got up then . I did go to bed late last night because I was watching Bohemian Rhapsody and it didn’t finish until midnight, I was still not tied so read my book for an hour and a half before I started to feel sleepy. I did sleep for most of the night and only woke up once. The weather last night was very wild and noisy and im glad I didn’t bother to clean the bedroom windows because it chucked it down. Luckily the living room window doesn’t get rained on because it’s under an over hang from upstairs 😀
Im off out in 45 minutes and I must say im not looking forward to it, its so windy and keeps raining but putting a brolly up will be pointless so im going to get soggy if the rain keeps upOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1204 -
I got into the habit of staying in bed when I was off sick and couldn’t do much. It somehow made it a shorter day. I’m often awake at 7 but tend not to much about it until Dh has gone out to work at 8.30. Although if I need to I can be up and out early. My downfall is if I put the tv on I waste the morning so I’m trying to make the radio my first port of call….although I’m quite partial to morning live.
Have a lovely Christmas and take it easy when you go back to work. I can’t get over occupational health not being pro active for you. They should be working in your best interest.January spends - £587.583 -

Today was a success 🍾🥳🍾I went and met DD2 and we got all the last bits of food shopping apart from party eggs which I’m going to try and find tomorrow. We also went for a coffee and had a nice catch up, she was looking and sounding a lot better so will be able to go back to work tomorrow.I came home and had a cup of tea then picked another job off my list which was to paint the coving in DDs old bedroom. So that’s mostly finished apart from a strip along one wall that needs a second coat which I’m going to do when I get back tomorrow. I also sorted out the curtains for this room as it hasn’t had any since DD moved out. The curtains were blackout curtains which I washed by mistake which made the blackout lining melt so I had to remove it but this left a messy edge down each side so today I mended the edge with that iron on tape that you use to hem things with and they look really good ,they are only a temporary fix until I can find some that I like but they look ok and you can’t tell that I’ve pulled the lining off. I can put that room back together tomorrow ready for DD to come and stay on Christmas Eve, she is staying with me until the 28th so that will be nice.
Tomorrow I’m off to visit my mum to drop off the TV magazine I got her for over Christmas. I also picked up some bits of shopping that she wanted so will take that over as well then once I’ve located some party eggs I can come home to finish my jobs. I’ve sorted out my Christmas scrub top to wear to work and I hope my trousers will still fit😂😂😂.
EDITED TO ADD
I just realised I hadn’t edited my signature for ages so I’ve just done it to reflect the amount of money I’ve paid off my debt so far. I’m still self managed and I’m paying £10 a month to each of my debts so I now owe £11,300. I’m only paying a small amount at the moment because I couldn’t afford more than that. I will keep plugging away at it so long as I’m able to. I would like to pay more off but at the moment I’m worried in case I get ill again and end up losing my job so I’m basically saving every spare penny I can to try to get some savings behind me that I could actually live off if I needed to. I still have half my lump sum left from my retirement and I could use some of that to live off but it wouldn’t last until I get my state pension so I need to keep saving. I am pleased that I’ve replaced the bits of it that I’ve used for stuff I’ve had done to the house such as having the gutters cleaned, it’s also my emergency fund for anything in the house so it needs to kept for as long as possible. Hopefully if this treatment works this time I will be able to carry on but I’m planning in case it doesn’t. I would be eligible for some benefits at the moment but with the government the way they are that could change at any moment so I cant rely on that. I will keep reviewing the situation anyway but at the moment I’m happy with what I’m paying and PRA are happy with my payments so no need to change any thing yet 🙂Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,510 Owed = £11,1209 -
That's a good amount paid off, OBL.
I'm glad your daughter's getting better at last and you were able to have your coffee and catch up. It's these little treats that make such a difference (as well as the big ones like the right medication, of course).I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I pay a small amount to mine too (£15 and £20). At some point when I have enough savings I'll do a F&F offer. I don't feel bad as I have paid so much in interest, fees and charges over the years, the original companies got more than was originally borrowed back. Also the companies that have them now will have only paid pennies in the £ for them so will still be getting their profits."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do".
