  • I've had a somewhat productive day helped by a phone call from my sister. We Face timed for a couple of hours after I posted and she cheered me up. I think I've just got sucked into the doom spiral of never ending mess and packing and expenses and couldn't see an end to it. I showed her around the house one last time and she said how empty it looked so that satisfied my need for feeling like I'd done enough 😂.

I've dug up six plants today, left the worst ones (by worst I mean in worst position to dig up under tarp so need DP help) for another day.
Done a tip run. Almost emptied the freezer. Tonight will be peas with some pasta 🤨. I also threw all left over sausages and burgers. I hate wasting food and felt awful but I couldn't gift them on being so ood. Once I've cooked the peas later I will switch the freezer off!

I popped in to Mr T as we had no loo rolls left and decided to get the few bits I would need for the next few days to avoid the shops tomorrow and Thurs I hope. Will probably need to pop back in on Fri though as living out of the fridge and cupboards now and both are emptying nicely.

    Spent £9.29 and got-
    Passata
    2 jacket spuds
    Biscuits (bourbons)
    Loo rolls
    OJ
    Kale
    S+V crisps
    GF pasta.

Could have probably left the crisps and biscuits but....I was naughty I shopped whilst hungry.

    Dinners I have planned ...
Chilli (again) with rice will bulk chilli out and cook it down with a tin of beans and omg it is hot.
    Pasta, peas, passata and pesto.
Jacket spuds with beans and kale (I mix the kale in with the baked beans it's quite nice actually 😂)
So that takes me to Friday then I will need to meal plan with whatever money I have left to take me to Monday at the very least.
Then I get one last CB payment this month of £42 - actually that will be due on Friday because of the bank holiday. We're pushing it here 😂 and probably haven't a hope in hell of actually making it to Sept on this months money but I will soldier on with trying.

DP has an interview on Thursday! He's excited about this and although the starting salary is better than what he's on the bonus is yearly rather than quarterly and structured differently. The perks and extras are a lot better though. Healthcare, dental and shares are some of the perks. There doesn't seem to be a car allowance though so that needs to be considered. But DP take home pay monthly right now is very low, I think, after car allowance is considered so perhaps it will work out better? I've told him to go for whatever he'd enjoy more. I thoroughly believe you have to love your job if working full time. After all it's where you spend most of your life at this age. So if it works out slightly less monthly we will make it work somehow. This is the job he's already spoken to the hiring manager about....the job is new and basically DP helped to write the JD so it feels like it's made for him...and if he doesn't get it I think it will be a hard blow. So I'm praying he does!

Done zilch packing today. I started making a pile yesterday to pack so I will do that and then walk the dog before it rains again I think.
Getting excited now and cheered up somewhat. If all goes to plan we should be exchanging by Friday. And I've officially only a week left here.

    Good morning all.
DP and I had a sudden spurt of energy and enthusiasm last night so we didn't waste it! He donned DIY clothes and got on with painting the dabs over all the poly filled picture holes whilst I tidied the dining room properly (packing zone disaster area) and also rearranged cupboards in kitchen so I'm using the least amount of cupboards. I then cleaned the rest as they're now empty.

We had a nice dinner of lots of peas 😂 too many to eat actually there are some in the fridge cooked still for another dinner, pasta, pesto and concentrated tomato paste (all bits in the cupboard). I saved the passata I bought for another dinner.

I'm turning the freezer off today just need to find some old towels that haven't already been used for packing.

We really don't have a lot to do now which I'm really grateful for. It means I can give the house a really good clean and not have to do it on moving day (just quick hoover round and done).

Debating what to do with FLD on moving day, he's so timid and sensitive he gets stressed easily and I know he's already on hyper alert with all the boxes everywhere. He won't leave me alone, especially since DD went off to camp.
I can either take him to my sister's house down the road from our new house but he may potentially get stressed with her new puppy. Pup is super cute and bouncy but FLD is old and moody around it and literally cries when the pup bounces all over him 😂. He puts up with it like he did with the kids playing with him when they were small but I know he enjoys it for about half hour and then has enough.
Or we can move him into the new house and let him explore the garden and house and try to keep him from under the movers feet (I could task DD with looking after him) that way he's with mummy (me) and can have his bed and stuff.
DP suggested a mix of both. Bring him to new house and then if it's too much for him drop him to sis house as it's a five min drive.
I should rename him spoilt little dog I'm not sure most people think about these things so much 😂😂

Today's job is to spend nothing.
To make some nice dinner and lunch from cupboards and fridge.
    Switch freezer off.
Give kids rooms a thorough clean now DP has finished with the sanding and re-painting of them.
I'm going to take our bed down tomorrow or Friday. I think our weekend will be pretty busy ferrying delicates to the storage place and hopefully dropping plants to new house. And Monday I am hoping to do some clothes washing from kids camp before DP unplumbs the washing machine. And last minute packing.
So all furniture needs to be fully taken down by weekend to stay on target of a stress free move.

One thing I've noticed as I've packed early...
I'm very much enjoying being a minimalist in the kitchen. Having only four plates, bowls, cups etc out is way easier than a dozen and it means the kids have their own (none of my dinnerware or mugs/ glasses etc match) so I know who's not brought theirs down and I wasn't finding lots of plates in their rooms with a pile of glasses when they were here.
I also packed away at least half our pans and have survived happily with half the amount. Although DP pointed out we've not done a big dinner requiring all pans in a while like a roast for example. But I wonder if I can just have half out in view and the others able to get to but not in full view as when I see them I use them rather than getting creative. It's meant I'm happy to wash up the minimal amount of stuff from dinner that evening rather than dreading it and leaving it to the morning after.
Also enjoying minimal things in the bathroom.
However our living spaces with no books, records (I had them on display like art work), art, colourful blankets etc well it feels like a new build that's not been lived in yet. So plain and boring and soulless.

So in the New house I'd like to try and keep with the minimal things out in the kitchen (which will be good as the kitchen is smaller from memory especially cupboard space)...but the rest of the house I think we'll do the same as we did here...not quite maximalism but definitely not minimalism 😂... Right that's my random thoughts for the day.

Going to have a soak in salt bath. Try and bath the dog too. And get on with some jobs!

  • Bathed the dog after me....I nearly needed another one after he'd done all his shaking.
Realised I had packed the hairdryer so had to hand dry him and then walk him so he totally dried off. Bumped into too many people (I will miss my neighbours, I have made friends with many around our little estate).
So my jobs list is still pending. I have switched off the freezer so I've made a start...

    Quick money update:
£1300 is the amount needed from Friday's wages to complete on the house.
Just going over my ynab to see what spends were this month on my flexi categories (daily spends really as opposed to the fixed DD spends) so I can gauge what I may *need* as a bare minimum next month.

    This month we have spent:
Groceries: £360.32 (a small miracle there!)
    Household Items: £142.19
    Dining out/ Takeaway: £95.64
    Clothes: £52
    Gifts: £42.45
    Home maintenance: £380.91
    Kids activities: £65.02
    Dog food: £23.98
    Toiletries: £7.54
    Total: £1170.05
No wonder we are feeling so brassic right now.
Next month I am hoping to just get through the month with the bare minimum of spends but we all know how unknowns and unforeseen like to pop up! I guess I better join the NSD thread

Right now my hot choc has been drunk I guess back to removing pretty door knobs for plastic black ones so I can take mine with me!

Yes you are amazing, you have done so well to get as far along as you have done, Keep it upX
  • We have rung the mortgage company and questioned the redemption fee.

Waiting on a call back....fingers crossed it's good news. 🙏🤞🤞🤞

I had another look at the figures the solicitors sent me (now the initial shock has worn off) and the fee for redemption is £2889. 😭😭

There is no way I would have agreed to that and I would have stayed put in this house had that been the figures given to us in the original meeting with the advisor.

I've found paperwork saying it is to be waived but the wording is not clear so I'm hopeful but not getting hopes up too high right now.

I'm glad I'm all over this money and budgeting though I wouldn't have even thought to question a solicitors bill/ mortgage bill before now.

Hope you get a better answer soon.  Just a thought but was the original quote to port your current mortgage and then add some additional borrowing for the difference? There would be no redemption that way and you would have had two mortgages on one account.
