Morning all! Well I have a lazy ish day planned for today.
- Finish kids rooms completely (almost done tbh).
- Put their bedding on for a quick wash.
- Hang washing out.
- Sand / repaint where we've filled holes from pictures (what I can reach anyway).
- Walk dog.
- Keep surveys open in case any pop up.
Jobs for the week:- Dig up plants I am taking with me and fill holes back in.
- Clean out the freezer on bin day (will empty those sausages and burgers into the bin on bin day and switch freezer off as there is nothing really left in there now aside from 1 loaf of bread and some ice and peas and ice cream- will aim to use these up in next few days).
- Make meal plan daily from fridge contents.
- Aim to have our bed taken down by weekend too.
- Have all boxes that are off to self storage ready in a pile by Friday.
- Pack DVD & record player/ cd player/ amp by Friday eve.
- off load bits to self storage on Saturday.
- Transfer solicitors money & removals money from my savings account into regular account so I can pay for everything as and when I need to.
- Cancel subscriptions I remembered about in the middle of the night.
The seller of new house messaged us this morning saying he'd been packing like mad at the weekend so he could take his kids on holiday this week without stressing too much. So that is good news. The buyers also messaged DP to say they will drop door knobs off this week (after we already bought some!! I am wondering how we can return them as we can't find the receipt but we do have an email from them - wonder if they will give us a credit note?) Anyway fingers crossed for exchange before Friday so we know it's all going to plan......
Right suppose I will crack on with some jobs that way I get to do the lazy part of the day sooner.....MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06. Done a few jobs, also cooked up some more chickpeas and made some protein balls.
Got another box to pack in the kitchen when I can find one the right size.
Just had our completion statement through and we are short by quite a bit. I feel so annoyed as I questioned them on how much this would cost and we are now coming up short. Not by a little bit either. I have sent an email off to them questioning one bit but I will have to come up with a plan to find the rest of the money. DP & I are debating a 0% CC and waiting for the EF to mature end of October to use that to pay the rest off we owe. Best laid plans and all huh.MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. After a call to the mortgage company it seems we've been charged an early redemption fee even though the mortgage advisor promised it would be waivered. We aren't sure what to do now, if we argue it it could delay everything, and if we pay it and then argue it we're not sure they will bother paying it back? Hmmm.
We have spoken to them about the first payment which is always higher, and it won't be due until October 1st. So actually we have one month's mortgage money available to go towards the lack of funds we have. We also are holding back the maintenance payment until requested so we have £420 there too. Both of these things combined are what we are short on. So we will use this money to complete.
If the maintenance is requested we will take it from the EF then.
And basically September will be another tight month then it should all right itself.
Off to sort the YNAB out to see if I can tighten the belt elsewhere for a while...I still have a little bit of uniform to buy for DS (I think less than £50 so nothing too much).

Okay I have done my paper budget as YNAB was annoying me, I couldn't figure out how to do it as I am not yet into September so the figures were getting messed up a little. Transferred paper budget to SOA.

It's a little hard to know what the costs will be as we will have closing bills here, opening accounts there, and figures are all over the place for the first month so i have tried to cut it right back to the bone and see what's available.
I have snoozed payments on DD contacts (£38 back for Sept), I will cancel AC fees as we are moving anyway and won't be paying for the local one (£20), No mortgage (£660), no child maintenance (£421 until we know otherwise), FLD food I have halved his budget to £10 (from £20), and I haven't included any pocket money in there. I expect there to be a few takeaways and things we have forgotten (+£100 into the budget soa for this). All car costs are already deducted from DP wage before he gets it. It looks tight but doable and means we don't have to touch the EF if we can get by with this budget.MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06. Okay all done for today, feeling tired and a bit down about the money situation. Trying desperately to re-frame it as I had the money sorted and this was an extra charge we didn't know about and yet we have still managed to sort the budget out so we can pay it 1- without touching the emergency money, 2- putting it on a 0% CC.
I can't seem to get rid of the bullet points now I have started with themOh okay they're off now but can't get rid of the ones above
Chilli & rice for dinner -rice precooked from yesterday, and chilli out of the freezer. Blackberry tart I pre-made and ice cream for pudding. The freezer will be switched off by Thursday latest I reckon!
I have had one of the survey payments through to my account, only a fiver but ya know...every penny counts right now! Oh and a NSD yay! Morning all,
Bank account is still where I left it yesterday thankfully.
I cancelled a couple more free trial subscriptions that popped into my head yesterday (free upgrade of YT which I rarely use and a magazine sub).
My nerves are feeling a little frayed as we get closer to moving day. I'm very excited too though. I didn't feel this way before moving here so that's a good sign this move might be right. And perhaps I'll last longer in the next house before saying I want to move on again 😉.
I went over our mortgage papers with a fine tooth comb yesterday after finding how to download them again. It clearly states no early redemption fee. So I was right. We've been charged for something we shouldn't have. And I'm none too happy about it. However we don't want to jeopardize the move and delay everything so I think we will pay it. And then argue it out. Probably the wrong way to do it but I've completely detached from this house and just want to move now. However we won't let it lie as it's £1500 thereabouts they've charged us.
We're not sure where the mistake has happened but when we had our meeting with the mortgage advisor from the bank she calculated the amount wrong there (long time readers might remember me saying this?) I'd asked her to put in enough for solicitors fees, EA fees and moving costs. She miscalculated by around the amount I've had to save- £3k- and we left it as it meant we'd reached 50% LTV exactly and we got the lower rate - however...she should surely have been able to calculate it right it's her job? Anyway we wonder if the mistake happened there as she completed the paperwork her end because of the other mistake. Worst come to worst though we will have moved and lost the £1.5k I'd rather that then fight for the money taken off now and have to stay here any longer..... Not very MSE I know. Sometimes peace of mind wins over the budgeting though.
Two houses have come up for sale on the road we are buying on this last week. Both finished products of what I'd like ours to be like. They're selling for around £320k and ours is £240k. Their houses are 3 beds and we have the 4th bed done in the loft. Our extension was half done (they put a tiny conservatory on and it was never finished right) and theirs extends the whole way across the back of the house. I've screenshot all their pictures on RM and also of the floor plans as the area we're moving into requires planning for any works you want to do. I have kept an alert on for the street and three others bordering it as they all have the same 1930s style...to see how they've done the houses up for ideas. I also like being nosey 🙈😂
Right suppose I ought to get up I've had a lazy morning in bed feeling disheartened but feeling slightly better about everything now ...so will get up and get on.
Kids both seem to be having fun at camp. Even if DS did have a bit of a fall out with an officer cadet about noise in the dorm...he's definitely my child 😂 I'd have told them all to shush up too if I was trying to sleep.MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. I don't know if you are making the right choice about the £1500, but I think it seems to make sense to do this to avoid delays. What a knightmare for you, I really hope I am reading in a couple of weeks that you have the £1500 back and that it was easy to get back. Positive thoughts coming your way. 😊❤️😊1
