It really does always happen.
When we moved into my grandparents house after my grandad dies, I spent almost a year in a caravan. Not the most enjoyable time especially in the winter when every single pipe burst, but it allowed us time to build a lovely house.
Hopefully the perfect plan will appear soonMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Really sorry to hear how unhappy your eldest, is and totally get that you would want them to be able to stay with you for a while until they get themselves a bit more sorted! I would be exactly the same.
Could you take out the old garden building and put in a log cabin? Just another thought. We bought an ex display cabin, I can't remember but there was a good amount off it and they came and put it all up. Then when they do move on you either have a lovelyy sunroom or another office space. This plan does have the added bonus of giving them their own space, away from the rest of the family!♥️ ♥️ ♥️🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸Decluttering 2025 So far 403 / 2025

I am now seeing you as Michell Pfeiffer in Dangerous Minds ! Go you !They need to learn to communicate better so go you for being a great example despite their behaviour
thanks for sharing your story - I am sorry you went thru that and no worry you get triggered by aggressive men
unfortunately physical and verbal abuse in the home is far more common than any of us expect - and increasingly people (mainly women ) are stopping pretending all is fine and finding a way to escape and truly live their lives to the full - the book sounds great
I am sure your DS1 is relieved to have an escape plan . A nice cabin sounds lovely - guess you will have to cost all ideas out more fullyDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

I spoke to another tutor today who pulled me aside to ask what had happened. After I'd told her she told me the exact same culprits did the same to her only she'd not handled it well and was left crying as they just refused to leave her class. Thankfully for me a tutor came in and kind of broke it up as it was getting really bad.
A cabin does seem like a nicer option especially as we will see it out of our dining/ kitchen area. It's not going to be hidden away at the bottom of the garden but in full view 😁MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. January 1st £118,267.06. Both of our cabins came from Tuin if that helps. Don't forget the need to insulate and to add proper flooring to your costs. We used plastic grids rather than a concrete base which was a lot cheaper and easier. The hardest and slowest bit was putting the roof on.

Also are there any cheap shared work spaces your DP could rent a desk at rather than building a home office? My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese
