The house has been cleared and the VNM has astonished me. He has had his part of the house cleared too. This was decluttering on a grand scale. He says if we are to move there was little point in moving stuff to mine just to decide about it here, that paying for storage wasteful and so time to let go as there was very little he wanted to keep in the end. He has gradually been filling my barn with his tools and so on but despite bringing an entire Horsebox full of stuff the barn is remarkably tidy and organised. I’m astonished he let so much go. This was the plan but I am still surprised it actually happened What has made me smile is the pictures he has hung in the barn and all the models. He charmingly said they would drive me mad in the house as clutter but the barn has become a workshop and is to be considered “his space “.Bonus: he fixed the starter motor of the tractor. He had shown me how to start it with a hammer and I thought I would need a new one but he has fixed it. YayMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Maybe VNM felt the weight of all his mums clutter and I guess going through so much stuff for months really brings the message home
How nice he is thinking of you and your next steps together in life ! A VVNMI also have too much stuff - I do periodically get rid of stuff but at least I am far slower to accumulate more, I buy a lot less.. I am also not planning to take it all when I next move / I do find the longer I stay somewhere the more it gathers.DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Go the VNM, that sounds great and like he really 'gets you'. I bet letting go of all that will be a weight lifted from him too.6

Was planning on going to a big horse show in East Sussex today but decided day was just to hot for WattyDog to spend at a horse show. He has spent most of the day under the dining table.Went out with CC this morning before it got too hot then bathed him as he was so sweaty when we got back. All evidence of a bath was gone by this evening as he had rolled in the dirt!
Shortened two pairs of curtains for barn windows (security at night as then no one can see in) and made a delicious chicken and black bean soup in slow cooker for dinner. It was a “use up” meal but so good it will be on the plan again!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

It rained overnight so WattyDog and I could go to horseshow - but - I would have to lug that table for VNM Sister out of car and his daughter's stuff would need to come out of boot (that is all going to respective homes this week) - and I really would like to do some gardening and ride one of my horses so, I have decided to stay home. That is £58 saved. £38 entrance and £20 parking - it is a huge event and I would also have spent money on food and quite possibly shopped even though I am determined not to buy "stuff" this year.
The not buying stuff has probably been had the biggest impact on savings. It sounds so obvious, but the recycling and repurposing is really helping. That and the VNM's mothers stuff which was overwhelming.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

It turned out really hot. WattyDog is lame and was struggling a lot in the garden so glad we didn’t go out He actually went in for a rest which is unheard of and wasn’t interested in favourite ball.
Rode CC then spent the afternoon in the garden. The lilac has gone and that entire bed weeded. Uncovered two camellias and a Christmas rose. Not quite the theme but I’m leaving those in. Lightly forked over the bed so ready for re doingWeeded the bed mostly planted up from cuttings a couple of years ago. It looks okay. VNM suggested just leaving it if I’m determined to move. I’m not sure re time scales. I think a couple of plants would finish it nicely so will see what is left in garden budget laterJust leaves the stone border under laurels to weed and one other very long overgrown border to do
VNM been looking at tractor. Now it starts without a hammer bash he is looking at brakes as currently only one worksMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

What a productive day! £58+ saved, WattyDog gets to rest, the garden really seems to be progressing and the tractor is improving!
I hope WattyDog is better tomorrow: it's hard for animals in the heat.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

Stinky has a paddling pool and loves it. Although I don't suppose he'll be able to use it for a bit as he's in for the snip today...4
