Thank you for the lovely wishes. Scans done and the cafe was lovely. Sat outside in their gardens which are now mainly herbs as the cafe is really busy these days, enjoyed my lunch, watched the volunteers drifting about the garden in that sociable way people do and soaked up the sun. Heaven. Scan results in 2 to 6 weeks apparently

Who can believe we are at May already! Wishing you all a wonderful May.
Long day yesterday, went to the Cotswolds to do a lecture and had the most charming and delightful day. The owner of the business emailed me while I was on the train, saying he would meet me on the platform and sending a picture so I would know what he looked like. I had got there an hour early to make sure I could find the place, so he took me for lunch in a lovely place. The organisation paid my expenses, bought me lunch, are paying me and everyone was just so charming. Lets hope that sets the tone for May
Off for coffee/business meeting, mix with friends in the same field this morning then have an afternoon of calls and lots of work has come in by email so certainly a busy start to May but the train journey (4 hours each way) plus time waiting for connections gave me plenty of thinking time and so planning. (By the way the Cotswolds look lovely, but, I suspect really expensive houses!)

Scan results back and further appointment needed. Appointment made (2 weeks). Trying not to worry. Friend who is a Physician Associate helped me with that although of course worries reappear at 2 am and 5.30 am.
Decided really need to get on with house more now so contacted local farmer to sort out the wall that came down. We talked over options and he can tidy the area up for free given he was partly to blame, but, I honestly told him that part of the wall was broken before he landed on it and so we should repair "properly" as my aim is to rent the place out when I sell the house. He was warned me to think "north of a thousand" but I already had that in mind so that was ok.
Then contacted another company to sort out some more of the outside work and hopefully they can fit it in soon-ish. Waiting to hear.
Then tackled more barn clearing until rain stopped play. Both barns looking so much better now. Few things on market place to hopefully sell, some free, and will give away stuff that does not sell just to have gone. Rubbish bin overflowing so I am hoping that the neighbours will have a little space in theirs as come bin day I will have no where to stash the actual rubbish. The amount PPH left behind is astounding, but his rubbish is going just like he has.

Not worrying is easier said than done, but it doesn't sound as though they are rushing you into anything, which is a positive.
The progress on the house and land is great. You don't need PPH's rubbish, and the place will be much more yours when it's gone and you have the repairs done. It will all help towards selling, of course.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Raining very hard here means no outside work today. I still have lots of barn shelves to clear and last night clearing one while the horses ate their dinner I realised if I did not actually know what something is then it is of no use. (Sounds odd, but PPH left stuff and at some level I had a sense it might be 'useful' but I have come to realise if it were 'useful' he would have taken it either for himself or to sell).
I cannot do any more clearing until I have a plan which might involve going to the tip, but, a lovely neighbour has one of those massive bins that are commercially emptied and has always said to put stuff in there before it is emptied so I will check in with her later. That will be a fuel and time saving plan.
As it is raining have agreed to go to VNM's mothers place to do some more clearing. I don't like doing this as I find it so draining. I think of all the wonderful things she did (she travelled to exotic places before that was really a thing to do ) and all the beautiful things she must have seen in her life and what is left is just piles and piles of horded old papers, medical records of deceased family, dusty and dirty books. Even the photos are not of her memories but collections of photos of people long gone. cards received that have never been touched after being put in a drawer and so on. However, I have offered, and so I will go. I know from past trips there will be nothing of joy in the place. It feels like she sucked the joy out of life, became miserable and then left behind a mountain of stuff she could not be bothered to throw away.
Her dressing table was full of old wrappings and used envelopes, I only went through it all to find the jewellery she has left to her grand-daughter, I kept thinking I would find lovely items that would be a joy to pass on, but, no, just more of the same plus receipts for things she sold many years ago. I suppose she thought if anyone wondered where that beautiful xx of her mother's was they would find the receipt. At one level that makes sense, I have sold stuff rather than keep it and used the money but never carefully kept receipts amongst papers and catalogues from 20 years ago. I find it sad, soulless and joyless. There is nothing of a person there.
Ah well, must run, have items I am passing on to stash for where the receipts from face book will find them while I am out and a curry to put in the slow cooker for dinner. A curry seems just the thing on a damp soul-less kind of day. Will lift my spirits at the end of it.
