WattyDog stopped any attempt at growing food some years back but I am tempted to grow something next year and the beans sound super easy. (As a younger dog WattyDog took out the runner beans and sweet pea wigwam in pursuit of his big red ball).
Food budget ruined yesterday as stopped at a farm shop after buying horse feed and bought four little pots of salad and smoked salmon for dinner as I could not face the fish pie I was going to make.
I realise this is the second night I've declined to make the fish pie so I'm going to toss the mix with some pasta and olive oil and chilli this evening and eat with the remains of the salad.

The difficulty of eating your way through the cupboards/freezer does seem to be that you end up finding things you love so you buy more and the cupboard is no emptier, or you don't like the things and it's a penance to eat them, but you still had to buy other stuff to make them edible, which you then have leftovers from...Chocolate is one thing I'm allowing plus the fresh veg.

I went through my cupboards and freezers before I moved and found some real odd things in mine too. Didn't even remember buying some of them. I wonder if, having read through the comments here, it was substitutes on home deliveries during lockdowns. I also found a couple of flours with bugs crawling through them 😬.
I will remember to freeze my bananas next time as I don't always have time immediately to make bread with them.
I love the manifesting of the money box btw. I have a few stories like this and love the confirmation that this stuff really works! 😁❤️MORTGAGE BALANCE when we moved Aug 2024, £120,000. I was really put off veg growing by marauding critters, though reading on these boards makes me realise we are really only growing all those gazillions of courgette seedlings for the slugs, so I'm not the only sufferer.
Salad and smoked salmon sounds like a reasonable reward for some very enterprising using up of stuff. Ditto chocolate. These things oil the wheels of life.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Remains of the salad were used up as a side to the pasta dish last night. After two evenings of deciding I couldn't face making fish pie, the fish pie mix was stir fried with chilli and garlic then stirred into pasta. The VNM was here and he decided it was the most delicious meal in ages and asked if I could make it again soon
So funny, so many meals are really nice yet using things I seem to have accumulated and not used.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Thank you for the kind words on the course sales. My dream target was 20 and I'm at 18 with a week left to go and I think I will get one more, and a reminder email might bring in one more plus I'm doing a talk today to a group of 4 or 5 I think so I will ask if anyone would like to be my last tester there too.
The profit after costs and taxes will clear my credit card bill so all good and hopefully cover a second hand saddle for Most Handsome (I've my eye on a couple on Marketplace) as his is very old and I'm fairly sure it needs replacing (he has a very cheap old saddle as he likes it and I think I've found one that is similar enough).
I still have to deliver the course but each part is written and when I'm confident with the tech etc I can launch properly and aim to run a couple of times a year.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Fish pie mix with chilli and garlic in pasta... actually I bet that's super-tasty and when you send out test copies of your book of recipes, pm me and I'll put my name on the waiting list.
Brilliant that you are so close to target with your course!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
