It's a shame your ex likes the same events as you do - but having a day off and going to a barn dance sounds like fun, and probably a good laugh with people you are relaxed with. It's probably as well you were able to avoid accidentally bumping into the ex, and by next year you will be stronger and steadier. Also WattyDog won't know he's missing the ploughing unless you tell him.
For next year, in the event you still feel uncertain about encountering the ex, is there a similar event in a neighbouring county?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Next year I am sure I will be stronger, and, if not your idea of looking for events outside of my area is absolutely brilliant. Can't believe I had not thought of that myself, i just checked on line and i have missed the good ones but there is a small one in the East of the region that I might go to. Thank youMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Of course he would go to the county show when you were together. If he wasn't there he wouldn't be able to tell you how much he wasn't enjoying it. He still turns up for a very similar reason, to try to stop you enjoying it. He just can't help himself. Please do not let him win this one.

Have a lovely time at the village barn dance, sounds a good laugh and you won't be too tired from having been out all day. Working instead so you can have Monday off was a good idea, Monday-you will be very pleased.
Hopefully next year ex won't bother turning up if you choosing not to attend events this year means he doesn't think there's a guarantee you'll be there. And in any case, you'll have a whole extra year of distance and healing under your (cowboy) belt by then. Have an extra yeehaw tonight for all you've achieved practically and emotionally x8 -
If he genuinely is going to these things to bump into you, is it ok if I have a small smile at the thought of him aimlessly wandering around something he doesn't enjoy in the hope of seeing you? 😆 rather than think of what you've missed out on , think of what he's gained 🤔 🤣 😂
By next year he will 1)have forgotten about them as hopefully he'll be out doing his own thing or 2) he'll realise he's likely to waste a day since there's no guarantee you'll ever be at one.22: 3🏅 4⭐ 23: 5🏅 6 ⭐ 24 1🏅 2⭐ 25 🏅 🥈⭐ Never save something for a special occasion. Being kind I think it is more that he is a bit lost and lonely when he is not with his girlfriend so he repeats things he did when we were a couple. I think he probably enjoyed them after all. Had things been different I would have been fine just bumping into him or maybe even having a coffee and chat at one of the stalls but he made the choice to be the way he did. I had always hoped for an amicable end and a passing hello at places like that but the way things ended that was and is not to be.

Last week's food spend including some for this week and last week came in at £12.00 This will really help me clear the credit card this month, which is the financial goal this month. I've just been putting things on it haphazardly and I need to sort that out.
In getting the bill so low I discovered that I love borlotti bean stew and that my taste buds have changed. I hated the tuna steaks found in the freezer so much I packed the remains up as a packed lunch for the VNM and I'm not really looking forward to tonight's fish pie. However very slowly I am eating my way through the freezer and cupboards.
I actually don't feel deprived either just cheerful. My aim to get the cupboard empty-ish and then start meal planning and regular shopping for the food on the plan.

That's an amazing total for over a week's shopping! Discovering new foods you love is an added bonus. I looked up the borlotti bean stew (which I'm guessing is the Greek one with onion, garlic, tomato and herbs?) and I can see why it would appeal, as well as being healthy and probably a good one to have in the freezer against a busy day.
The difficulty of eating your way through the cupboards/freezer does seem to be that you end up finding things you love so you buy more and the cupboard is no emptier, or you don't like the things and it's a penance to eat them, but you still had to buy other stuff to make them edible, which you then have leftovers from...I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. You are inspiring me with your cupboard clearing Watty. I’m making a little bit of progress in any case!
In a normal year (ie one with sunshine and fewer slugs), Borlotti beans are super easy to grow - and you just leave them on the plant until the pods have turned brown and then harvest the dried beans. It’s super satisfying to have these in stock all through the winter from your own garden (was excellent last year, but none for me this year due to slugs).Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days
