I had a week to clear out my dad's (rented) home when he died. It did not help with the grieving process and I think my mental health is still really affected by having to sort out absolutely everything all at once when in the absolute worst emotional place.

A very non MSE day.  Fell pony's feet are still really bad and his person has said he is struggling with walking on hard surfaces like roads so she isn't sure about taking him out.   We have been trying to work out what boots he needs.  (Usually horses would have shoes put on by farrier but his feet are still struggling with an equine version of athletes foot that refuses to clear up so that isn't an option).    We have hired various boot fitting kits to see what "size" he is but not really worked it out so I found a "fitter" that came out yesterday with about 6 large bags of options and tried them all on.  

The right one was identified and my plan had been to look for them second hand but I have just bought new to get it  sorted rather than wait so £50 spent on the fitter and £225 spent on boots.    I'm justifying this to myself as if the pony had to have shoes fitted by the farrier that would most likely be £50 every 6 to 8 weeks so this is MSE in "the long run"  (Most Handsome has a pair of boots rather than farrier fitted metal shoes and his have lasted years)

The fitter was lovely but had such a strong Scottish accent it took me a few mins to get 'my ear in' and we began the session with me mumbling as I wasn't quite sure what was being said.  I'm sure the man thought I was somewhat daft to begin with

Again I am reminded that horses are why I am really not very MSE at all    Charming Cob has the chiropractor today, Fell Pony has the dentist and Most Handsome is to be ridden but I am so stiff and achy I need to book myself in with the acupuncture lady.    I'm hoping I have a something in the freezer for dinner as the fridge is bare and I've struggled to go shopping and whilst I should carry on with the "use up" plans my imagination is failing me and I'm really time poor today.

Sounds like a beans on cheese on toast kind of day to me, @Watty1 - it's a go-to CBA supper here (without the cheese now, I top with a poached egg on each slice of toast) nutritious, quick, easy and tasty!

Late to the discussion re clearing houses but when my grandfather died, one of the stand- out points was discovering that he'd never cancelled a monthly beauty box that my grandma had on subscription.  She'd died 10 years previously. It took us 4 years to sell his house and the privet needed to be kept in line.  After one episode where we cut the cord of the trimmers not once but twice we did briefly discuss whether to set fire to said hedge, at that stage the same height as the house.  My aunt's bitter muttering that 'Privet shouldn't be allowed to grow this tall; in fact, it shouldn't be allowed to grow at all' has entered family folklore.  It's never straightforward is it.  Love to VNM and of course you @Watty1 Humdinger xx

We inherited 50m of 20 foot thick 15 foot high laurel hedging, and a second of the same plant between the front garden and the so-called secret garden (now our veg garden). Got a friend to remove it for a small fee, using block and tackle. It was officially, a nightmare. A beech hedge is much easier. Still have a Portuguese laurel grown as a tree, but absolutely, no hedges like that again

No lover of privet or laurel here. I so agree with @Humdinger1's aunt's sentiments.
 
Next door has a 20 foot high laurel hedge surrounding them.  It is awful and borders my rear drive and my side garden. I hate it with a passion, but, they have turned into very nice neighbours, and so I put up with it.  I went round today to let their dog out for a pee and I saw the garden for the first time from their side and actually it is very private and nice so I can see why they like it.  

At least it doesn't smell like the chickens next to my field.  I'm waiting until I feel strong enough to tactfully tell the man that he needs to do something about them. I rode today and the smell now is awful.  The horses must hate it. I do.

Busy day today.  Week 3 of course to be taught, giving another talk this evening on line as a business promotion thing and all the usual work to be done. Breakfast and a read on here before the day proper begins.
