DH called in sick this morning and has tomorrow off as a matter of course. He was supposed to get a doctor's note but they can't see him for a few days so it will be backdated. He hasn't seemed too bad today but I've been out a bit so I wouldn't really know.
He had the remainder of the chasseur for lunch and I used an out of date pasta sauce along with some frozen soya mince and various oddments of frozen veg to make a batch of Bolognese-style dinner. Remind me not to get soya mince again, it's okay but not something I really like. However, it fed me well and will do another couple of meals too.
DH fell asleep after lunch and I went searching the town for kitchen turntables, unsuccessfully. I've ordered some online this evening (£26.97 for four). Dh gave me various lifts, which I'm accepting gratefully as it saves energy. On the way home tonight we called in at T*sco and L1dl and bought lots of fruit and some other bits for my birthday breakfast. It was quite indulgent but at least much of it was frozen which I hope shaved a bit off the price and means lots more healthy breakfasts for a while.

Another full day - and birthday, though I've only semi-celebrated as we had the grandchildren to look after and the family plans to get together in a few weeks. I've not even opened all my presents as I had to be at A and H's soon after 8 and didn't get home till mid-evening because they gave us a pancake dinner in honour of my birthday.
Thankfully I've had enough energy and managed to take them to the toddler group. DH is also generally better though the cough is still very much present and he said he fell asleep this afternoon! That's usually my line, but the house is warm and quite after lunch so I'm not surprised. He came to join me looking after the children later int he afternoon and I think that was good for him.
I succumbed to the lure of the supermarket while walking back from the toddler group: some cheap fridge magnets for a stocking filler or activity for the children, I haven't decided which, some paper plates for a craft activity which DGD N didn't take to, and some food. Total £7. It was also £1 each for the children to attend the activity.
The turntables for the larder shelves have arrived already and I think they will be useful. I also logged back in to Delay Repay but the journey had timed out so I can't claim. It was only a small amount so it's not a big financial impact but it's annoying as I spent ages trying to get it to work a couple of weeks ago. The difficulty was that I was claiming for two of us and it wouldn't let me add the second ticket. Ah well.
This reminds me I had a small refund from TKM, and no idea whether it's still in date so I need to go back through emails.
The birthday has yielded a year's membership of a place we love going to, and two vouchers for me to spend.
I really must get to bed very soon as I've to be up for the Wednesday job tomorrow. I am still having doubts about it but both the clients I saw over the autumn have been in touch so in theory I could see both tomorrow and if so, that will give me more of an idea whether it's right for me. If they don't show up, well... theoretically there's work for me to do but the nature of the client group is such that many people can't keep appointments and consequently end up falling foul of many systems, even free help. But is the right place for me? Although the team is an absolute pleasure to work with and have my sense of humour, I always look forward to the sessions with some trepidation.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!2 -

Thank you everyone! I've continued with it today, opening the rest of my presents and cards and having a slice of birthday cake for lunch.
I have lots of books and chocolate and another voucher with which to indulge myself. Also nice texts from friends.
The Wednesday job this morning was quite interesting: neither of my previous clients turned up but I have a new one. So I'm staying! I dawdled back via shops and bought some bulbs for the garden that were being sold off for 10p a pack: tulips, garlic and onions. Also some bits and pieces for cleaning.
This evening I had more of the soya Bolognese I made the other day, and used some lentil pasta which was remarkable for the way it broke down after a few minutes in hot water. There's still some of each to finish but I won't be repeating the experiment. DH had a fishcake as he wouldn't have got on with what I had.
DH was well enough to go to his group from church and I went to mine, and that's about it for today, apart from me being proud of sticking the little rubber 'feet' back on my kitchen scales. Turns out they are magnetic so I stuck the scales on the fridge where they are neither use nor ornament. I don't know why these little 'feet' are attached so badly: I've had to buy new scales in the past because they become unstable as soon as the 'feet' go missing. And the package made a point of emphasising that the magnets mean they will hold to metal surfaces, but I don't really know why you would want to as surely most kitchen surfaces aren't metallic?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living.
