kazwookie said:Does anyone know if Dizzy and family are all ok, I've just watched the news and seen the flooding.Fingers crossed for her
"We had a small amount of water rise up through the floors as the water table is so high, but nothing major. We did have someone hit the floodwater on the road outside and crash headlong into the stone wall at 2am this morning which was carnage. Still on flood alert but it's not raining atm."
Phew!
I can't claim to have had a busy day at work - or even a particularly busy day - but I have
- S&S'd the kitchen and bathroom
- PUPA in the LR and bedroom
- made my bed
- paid 2 annual subscription renewals to family history societies without being reminded, and had a very pleasant exchange of emails with the membership secretary of one society who took the trouble to send me a personal thankyou as well as the standard one
- emptied the plants out of the big basket arrangement that my friend sent over a month ago for my birthday/our anniversary/Christmas and potted up the survivors - a lovely Christmas cactus which I'll keep, a peace lily and a dark green Victorian-type ferny thing that I'll pass on to new homes, and a still-just-about-flowering azalea which I have put outside to take its chance through the winter (I haven't got anywhere suitable to put it indoors)
- hoovered the utility to pick up the spilt soil
- the basket itself has gone into the CS box, along with a few other bits worth donating that I found when I checked through the c-o-d in the study: two things crossed off my Toots list together
- also crossed off "Move things down off the high shelves in the kitchen wall units" - either the house is growing to fit my gigantic grandchildren, or I am shrinking!
- checked the smoke alarm: all OK
- made lunch
- sorted more paperwork in my study
- exchanged emails with an old schoolfriend to arrange a catch-up phonecall next week
- printed out the concert hall vouchers that my DC gave me for Christmas, so that I don't forget to use them!
- walked Rosie in the drizzle; thankfully the gale force winds have dropped
- decluttered some more Christmas cake with a cuppa
- made the traditional turkey curry for tea - enough for 2 meals for the two of us, so the second meal will go in the freezer for a week or two. And there's still enough turkey meat left uncurried for our main meal tomorrow. Rosie is in seventh heaven with all the treats that I keep dropping in her direction. (For anyone who missed the info previously, it was only on 28th that I cooked the turkey, so it's still perfectly good to eat)
- added even more things to this week's to-do list as I went along, but nothing major.
Enormous (((hugs))) to all in need: wet, weary, worried or just plain fed up xxxx

YORKSHIRELASS said:Fayolle I loved your comment about DD. My two were getting far too comfortable here but the need for their own space/privacy/freedom won out in the end. It is very quiet without them.
I REALLY wish a few of mine would feel this need! Honestly, I NEED the space.
OH is still on about going to his mothers tomorrow.. we have 1 working headlight and I have nowhere to put any crap they are on about bringing back.. I just cannot cope.. I might go with him for the drive and just stay sat in the car with my knitting and a book.. I'd be perfectly happy there. I have a headache just thinking about the torture of it.

MinnieMousesMummy said:Morning all,
My list for today
Get dressed
Feed the animals
Check direct debits
Work out a budget for this month as it's going to be a tight one
Wash up the dishes, dry and put away
Pop into town as need to go to the chemist (think I slept awkwardly as I woke with a sore shoulder so going to get muscle cream)
Move the dining table back through to the kitchen, we move it into the sitting room for festive meals.
Do 2 loads of laundry
Tumble dry the laundry, fold and put away/add to ironing pile once dry
HHI (need to iron school/work gear needed for rest of this week)
Sort out clothes, bags, etc for tomorrow as the kids are back at school, DH and I are back at work.
Water the plants
Get an early night as back to the grind for everyone tomorrow.
Think that is everything that I need to tackle today, I best get a move on as seems to be a lot for me to do.
Jobs that I need to complete by the end of this week are to defrost the freezer and move food in from the garage freezer and switch it off, work out a budget for this month as it's going to be a tight one, and move the dining table back through to the kitchen (although will need to wait until my shoulder muscle is less painful).6 -
Hello folks, may I please join your weekly FlyLady threads this year? I'm on the path for decluttering the house and building cleaning into my daily / weekly routine. If anything, to get the place to a state where we can bring in a cleaning service more easily.
This week I've done a couple loads of laundry; wiped down kitchen surfaces; changed out bath towels; partially decluttered a living room table and a few other bits. My tasks for tomorrow:
- fold and put away clean sheets
- wash and hang another load of laundry
- clean toilets
- wipe down bathroom sinks
Genuine question: am I doing this right?6 -
Hugs to those in pain, dealing with floods, general problems and day-to-day crappy stuff xxx
Re hip pain - I started getting that a couple of years or so ago when I was in bed at night and it would wake me up. I found that (if you'll pardon the expression!) clenching my buttocks quite rapidly for a few minutes really helped and the pain subsided. I haven't had it for months now.
But, maybe mine was perhaps postural rather than osteo... However, I do think clenching is worth a try xxx
Have had a really difficult day today with my breathing. I think yesterday's gales and heavy rain have exacerbated things.(I never really cope during serious damp weather) I did manage to do some things though:- Mr T delivered - got the guy to bag it up for me (I supplied the bags) in the porch like I normally do but it took me a lot longer to take the bags from the porch and put the stuff away than normal because I had to keep stopping and sitting down for a bit.
- WM on twice, TD on twice but again, took longer to load/unload etc. It's DD's washing which she brought over (I said I would do it for her as theirs isn't plugging in yet in their new house) but I told her today I probably can't drop it back and is it OK for her to pick it up on Saturday? She agreed so that's good. If I do feel better tomoz though I will drive it over to her.
- Replenished indoor log store slowly over about half-an-hour as it needed doing.
- Sorted out the admin issue with the locked account so fingers crossed that issue will be resolved soon.
- Went to bed about 4pm for a lie down for an hour because I needed it...
- Made and baked a loaf of bread from scratch
Have a GP call scheduled for tomoz morning re my blood pressure results. I think he'll prescribe tablets for the rest of my life... I just need to negotiate with him regarding the optimum time for him to prescribe them so the repeats all tie in neatly with the delivery of my current meds...
I hope your evening is going well and your tomorrow will be even better xxxI am the leading lady in the movie of my life

Fayolle said:Evening all,
Have I only been back at work for 2 days - feels like forever (sorry, ClothofGold).YORKSHIRELASS said:CofG You make a good point about work. I have a very well paid job a 15 minute drive away from home, I manage a small team of 4 who are a great bunch and we get on well. I have a lot of responsibility and a lot of deadlines to meet but the senior managers mostly leave me to it so I am pretty much my own boss. And yet I fret constantly about work and suffer with really bad imposter syndrome. I never want to get up and go to work and I dread going back after holidays. I think it's me and I would feel like this wherever I worked, I wish I could enjoy it more.I too used to suffer with imposter syndrome which, looking back, was daft. Your position sounds great so try to enjoy it; you're obviously a very competent person.@pigpen major hugs.@JingsMyBucket welcome. I'm a relative newcomer to the thread myself and everyone is lovely.More drops of water coming through the bathroom ceiling [sigh]. Evening meal made and eaten, washing up done, first lot of the night time eye meds done; two more to do. Only other things to do are set up A's breakfast things, clean my teeth and that's it. I really am going to try and get to bed at a half decent time tonight, no really I am.....8 -

Glad to hear Dizzy is ok.
Not a vast amount achieved today although I don't know where the time went.
- Did Body Pump via some wet roads and a fallen tree, fortunately the road was passable.
- cleared the floordrobe in the bedroom.
- washed 'Christmas clothes' on 30 degrees as a jumper, skirt, top and tights are all glittery and delicate.
- Mr N and I had a less than successful trip to get new pots for conservatory plants; first garden centre was closed until 1st Feb; 2nd we bought one pot and a few small things in the sale, but not as productive as we'd hoped.
- ditto Mr A; we got most of what was on the list but no major bargains. Very disappointed with Mr Al and Mr L this year; virtually no GF Christmas goodies in either our area or when down at Mum's.
- had to stop off for petrol so got the last couple of things (and more) from Mr S. That's certainly enough shopping for the next week or so; not my idea of a hobby but I just have to look everywhere when the sales are on in case of bargains.
- checked various cinema vouchers as there are a couple of things we want to see, but so many cinemas are closing now, it's hard to get the right location/voucher/day combination.
- did some drumming practice. Probably my last practice drumming along to Christmas radio......Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.10 -
Morning my lovelies xx
It's all kicking off at work. Top boss has spoken to me, asked me to learn another Service, and reassured me that I'm not going anywhere. I'm OK with that as my workload has just about disappeared since 1st November. BUT there will be changes that other colleagues won't be happy with and that bothers me. And it's smoke and mirrors again. All confidential. The atmosphere is horrible and it's triggering my anxiety.
P is laid in a hospital bed and crying. They've now told him there's no problem with his heart!!! He has severe anaemia and they don't know why. Ermmm. What are the possible causes? Let's rule them out one by one - they can't just keep giving him blood and sending him home. He's gone from a fit and active 72 year old with no medical history to a wreck with no quality of life. I'm encouraging S to talk to PALS. In fact I'll send her the number when I get to work. It's difficult as legally I am no-one, but he's DS's Dad and still means a lot to me.
I wasn't going to post as flying isn't where I'm at. But I do need an anchor while I negotiate these stormy seas. And flylady is that anchor.
So I'm up, dressed, made my bed, taken my meds, packed my lunch - crackers a cheese again, eaten breakfast and supped my brew. Burgundy recycling bin (cardboard and plastic) is at the gate waiting to be emptied. It's full.
I'll ring Pops and sing to him later. Poor chap, but it has to be done. Happy Birthday to you.
Better get my boots on and go. Hope everyone has a good day.

Morning all
Sorry to hear about P Round, hope they get to the bottom of it soon. Much amused by the thought of you singing to Pops…
Off to the paid stuff today so I’m up having my vertical half hour.
WM, TD and DW x 1 so machines to empty when i get downstairs. I suspect, one again, that will be the sum total of my flying unless I manage to S&S the kitchen while i’m having breakfast.
Later, however, I will do a binbag dance as it’s black bin day tomorrow. Despite the excesses of the festive season it still won’t be full which is excellent. Oh i did vacuum after removing the tree yesterday.
