New to this place but loving all the pictures.

Am knitting/crocheting a lot at the moment but also cross-stitch, although I go for more naturalistic works generated from photographs.

I loooove the various 'ten stitch' knits from Frankie Brown on Ravelry -- again, my preference is for bold/ombre colours. I made one of his circular designs into one of those floor cushion covers and have been cuddling up in some lapghans while working from home.

Feel free to not read, I'm just having a kind of defeated little rant to myself.

This dragon (in the words of Khan) is tasking me!  You'll maybe all remember the story so I won't rehash other than this particular version of the chart has been on the go for around 35 or 40 years.  Way back when, I put the threads from the kit onto cards with the symbols but in the intervening years forgot thats what they were and when doing a tidy up one day last year I took them all off the cards and dumped them into a tub.  Aaagh.  Once I realised.  Aaaagghh.

I cant find a satisfactory way to store all the 54 symbols/threads/needles etc.  About half of the 54 symbols are one strand of this, one strand of that.  All loads of very close colours.   Added to the fact that I wonder if any of the colours have faded so when it comes to matching them to my dmc swatch card I might find nothing matches.  Oh and its such a small aida for my (now) 58 year old eyes.  I don't know if its just the sunk cost fallacy that is keeping me trying to keep slogging on.  Aaagghh.  I've had to buy more cross stitch needles in a local scrap store as some of the ones I have all loaded up ready to go when I need 3 stitches of the next colour have rusted.  Aagghhh.

I'm sure come February the clearer light will help and I'll be able to attack it regularly and I'll see progress. I think shelving it for 6 or 8 weeks will be sensible.   I'll maybe do dome sewing or something that doesn't rely too much on strong natural light

  • From bitter experience, nothing good comes of forcing yourself to finish something you desperately don't want to keep doing.
