Maman, no we are not and it's not looking good for tonight!

Beanie in the oven 😂 it's gas

Mike, i would say not enough food, why dry wheat biscuits and no milk? Do you not get fed up of the same food? But and i am not being cheeky for your age i would think that weight was about normal?

    Lol I am rarely hungry

I explained to my doc that I ate cornflakes for breakfast but he said I would be better eating wheat and I don't like them soggy.

No I don't get fed up, like I said I like a simple life thats easy, 7 minutes cooking time is my max at the moment. I can do a cooked dinner AND I have, chicken/beef 4 veg and gravy but when it's done I don't fancy it

I do sometime go out and have carvery or gammon plus chips and trimmings but not often

I'm not disputing my weight isn't normal what I'm saying I don't like it, I feel I have a belly and don't want one plus I have trousers in my wardrobe at 34 waist I can't fasten, some still have labels.

I will solve it even if I have to starve myself haha

Mike, I too would say that you're not eating enough - I'm over 70 so a bit younger than you, and I probably eat 3 times as much as you.  You don't seem to have enough milk/cheese every day to get enough Calcium which you need for strong bones.

I'd definitely be having some milk with the Weetabix - no idea why the doc told you not to have them soggy!  I have quite a bit of milk on mine although only eat Weetabix a couple of times a month!  I'd definitely get very bored with your food.

It's a common problem to not fancy eating something when you've cooked it but could you make up some roast dinners and freeze them as Home Made Ready Meals then when you fancy a roast all you've got to do is defrost it and microwave it!

Teacakes/hot cross buns for lunch every day isn't a good thing either - they are probably the most likely thing to be giving you the belly as they are just full of ingredients that should be treated as a "treat" so an occasional thing not a daily thing.  You'd be better off with a couple of slices of wholemeal bread with some ham and salad in it.  If you've been following the thread for a while you'll have seen some of the amazing food that @bubbs eats and I'm sure she won't mind me saying that she has lost over 5 stone!

Food doesn't have to be fancy but good food cooked well and with a bit of variety is probably the best way for you to lose that weight.

It's definitely worth having a look at the sort of things a lot of us on here are eating and we are all losing weight.

I know you say you don't like fancy food or foreign food but how about things like shepherds pie which is just some mince and onions (we all like to add chopped veg to up our veg intake - things like finely chopped mushrooms, carrots, tinned or fresh tomatoes, peppers) and then topped with some mashed potatoes.  Serve it with some vegetables and you've got an easy complete meal.

If you've got a slow cooker you could easily make a good beef or chicken stew in it and again portion it up and freeze.  Would then just need defrosting and reheating.  I prefer not to add potatoes to mine as I don't think they cook particularly well in the SC and then just cook some mash when I'm going to eat it.

I think you could do with upping your fruit and veg intake as it seems you only eat salad alternate weeks!

Hope that helps.  Let us know how you get on.

Morning all, still not feeling back to normal but definitely an improvement on yesterday morning.  Need to get some washing done today as not done any since I finished the washing mountain!  Having said that it looks very damp out at the moment but hopefully by the time the washing is done it will be a bit dryer and I can get most, if not all, dry outside.

Not planning on doing much today although I'll definitely need to put the vacuum cleaner around as not been up to pushing it around since we got back!

Anyway, back to SW matters and my food for today:

    B - Fry up with LF sausages - P; S; F; 2
L - LF burger, onions, gherkin slices in WM roll - HEB; S; 0.5
    D - Beef stew, mash, cabbage (LO from yesterday) - P; S; F

    HEA - milk
    HEB - WM roll
    Syns - sausages 2; burger 0.5

Forgot to say I've managed to lose about half of what I put on whilst on holiday!  I think it's next week (or may be the next week - need to check)  I need to go to WI so hoping to have lost the rest of it by then!

    Have a good day everyone.

I gained 0.5lbs yesterday. Purely down to snacking on left over Christmas chocolate. Its gone now so can focus on just having hi fi bars for a chocolate fix this week.

I managed to eat all my Syns for the week yesterday but at least ive counted them!

Im having a bit of stress at work at the moment however I have decided im going to try to focus on positives.  From yesterday:-

1 Still not had any alcohol
2 Did my Walk it Out Workout.
3 i won the raffle which was the ingredients for vegetable biriyani. I made it when I got in and it was delicious. So another meal in my arsenal.

Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

Thank you for your advice. The doc didn't say don't have them soggy thats my preference.

I don't have a freezer and nowhere to put one so pre-made anything in bulk is out, a couple of years ago I did and was buying ready made meals and got bored with them.

Ok I'll knock off the tea cakes and buy more fruit, I will also insert a week of roast chicken/beef potatoes  and veg to alternate with the others. I do like shepherds/cottage pie so I will keep my open for them
  • Ah Mike, I do get the appetite thing, I have mum living with us and her appetite is poor now ( 85) but at least she has me to cook for her evening meal so she does get a variety of food. Shes also capable of getting herself a breakfast and lunch

And thats the idea, you dont have to eat loads, just a variety  and yours are very carb and sugar heavy - cereals, breads, buns and biscuits, which will be giving you the belly. Also poor nutrition always shows up as a pot belly. Its possible not to have an inch of fat anywhere but have a belly - Im that person (59 ) because I too spent the last few years on a carb laden diet with barely a veg in sight. Belly fat is slowly going because Ive ditched the bread/biscuits/buns etc and have switched to those pesky fruits and veg that Ive dodged most of my life

This would be mums daily diet - kind off. Breakfast - microwave porridge , or muesli, or weetabix or all bran - she chops and changes , a cup of tea and a piece of fruit - she likes fruit. Lunch will be a sandwich on wholemeal bread, with ham, cheese , tuna, sardines, turkey - whatever - and she will add beetroot to most , a small glass of Orange juice, more fruit - grape or a satsuma or apple , and a yoghurt.  4pm is another cup of tea and a biscuit and then she gets dinner around 7pm which I cook, which is similar to what you cook - meat of some description and veg and potatoes

Now obviously Im cooking for 3, I have a freezer, I can buy fresh in amounts that will be used, which is hard for a single person. However, veg is veg and tinned veg is perfectly acceptable to use  - if mum is alone shes happy to use tinned ( she loves it ) and she will use instant potatoes, and instant sauce mixes. Indeed before they came to live with us, most of mums and step dads meals were made from tins

I get you have no interest in cooking, or you may even find standing and cooking painful  ( mums is shortness of breath ) and guess what? A good meal doesn't need to be meat and veg. A good meal can be something as simple as scrambled or poached eggs , or boil in the bag kippers ( I love them ) with a bit of veg along side - some tomatoes and mushrooms, some peas or sweetcorn, a small salad. As Bubbs calls it - a picky plate - some cooked meats like chicken, a piece of cheese, a selection of pickles, some chopped fruit   - think old fashioned ploughman's

I would suggest to you, for your age, lack of interest in food, and lack of facilities - ie freezer , to  concentrate on upping the calcium ( dairy ),  proteins - lean meat, cheese, fish ( easiest forms ) and the good old fruit and veg and just cutting the carbs  - tea cakes and biscuits to one a day treat

Dont even joke about starving yourself, you are already on very little and that is probably also contributing to the belly. Bodies are marvellous things, they will protect themselves. When you eat too little it will convert all and anything its fed into fat and that is stored around the belly.

Follow along with us a while. Ok you might not want to know our evening meals, but you will get a good idea of what we eat during the day and that should give you ideas moving forward
  • @bubbs, hope the power is back? Blimey you are really going through it at the moment arent you?

@joedenise, glad to hear you are feeling slightly better. And well done on shifting the gain by as much so quickly. Theres ladies in group who are still dealing with the Christmas gains and you can see they are losing momentum so Im sure a few more will fall by the wayside before next week :(

@VALM, its 1/2 a pound, thats all and best thing is - you know where it came from. Its when you have a gain and swear you have been following plan religiously that the weight gains become a problem. I solved the Christmas nibbles by sitting and scoffing all that was left in one fell swoop, nearly sickened myself but its done and Ive been losing since. For me what Ive found is, if I dont have anything sweet Im fine, but one bit starts me wanting more, seems to activate the sugar craving. Even the free and low yoghurts will set me off, I really do have to exercise a hell of a lot of will power. its like the drink, one is too many, a thousand is never enough

Very very very well done on still being AF, you must be chuffed and extra well done on the exercise xxx Do you have any sort of fitness tracker? Watch or phone? If you do, sync it will the SW app - you get more shiny stickers to add to your arsenal :) I am a great fan of shiny stickers, they are my clap on the back, my acknowledgement of all the work I am doing for myself. My personal "Well done You's " Ive my bronze and silver already and I just clicked to start my gold

@Mrsporrige , hope you had a good night out.

@Nornironrose , forgot to say, love the look of your snack plate.

had a dreadful evening yesterday. Obviously went to work on a high, seriously buzzing. Work was wonderfully busy, so hate it when its quiet. Took a huge bowl of yoghurt, frozen berries and oat bran to munch on, and I just about finished it before I left. If Im busy Im not picking or looking food

Got in, hubby had the hot tub up to temp, happy days. However he wanted to go to the pub, so I had Diet Coke , happy enough. Came home had dinner - chilli salmon pasta and I did make garlic bread, so no idea on syns but I have plenty so didnt get hung up over them. Then it went pear shape

I admit, I was toying with the idea of having a drink in the tub, Never been in the tub without a drink, we sit and relax and listen to the most way out music and have a glass of something, only getting out when the need for the loo gets too much. But I took a can of coke with me, thinking to myself I might have one later. Only about 30 mins in, I started to get the most godawful cramps in my belly. Not the type when you have an upset belly, these were worse - groin area. Get like someone had my muscle in a vice and were pulling. I could barely walk, couldn't sit, could barely move. Lasted about three hours. Oh I did feel sorry for myself. Still all notion for a drink passed :)

Still very tender in that area but no cramps and I've managed to go to the toilet so nowt serious wrong. Probably that old adage of not getting into water after a meal is very true

Still by time I was comfortable enough to lie down and sleep I slept well and feel good today.

Being very lazy today, hubby is cleaning my car - a litre of blackcurrant squash spilled in it the other day - its a stinking sticky mess. Plus its covered in sea salt and sand so hes been at it a good couple of hours bless him. Ive just stuck some washing on and thats the height of it for me. Dinner tonight is beef stew which I shall stick in the PC and for lunch its bacon butties - wholemeal HEB for me with rocket and tomatoes. I shall no doubt use a bit of stilton up in it for extra flavour , Ive more stilton in the house then the local stilton mountain - thats not counting whats in the freezer

Have to go to Belfast tomorrow for a funeral. Its an early start so will be off plan. Funeral is 11am and seeing as theres only immediate family - all six of us - it will probably be back to the house for lunch so Ill eat what Im given. Its a dry house so nothing in the way of alcohol to worry about. Got to sort out something to wear that fits. I throw out the coat that I wore to funerals as it drowned me, made me look like a Diddy man

@Longwalker for your words of encouragement. At first I tried the con job of saying I dont know why I gained. Tried conning myself that the exercise would negate the snacking. By the time Image Therapy started I was ready to be honest and asked for a food diary.

Like you, I get the feeling that mojo is low at our group. Not a lot of people stayed.

I have a Fitbit that I thought was synced to the App. Need to look at that and see whats going on.

Hope all goes as well as it can at the funeral.
