@GrannyKate
Get the banana boxes from Lidl/Aldi/Tesco. They are really sturdy, generally have handles which make them easy to carry and you can stack them as you fill them up. It's hard to get so very much in them that they are really heavy (though books and cds always do that.)
And when you unpack them you can spot things you don't want to keep and put them in one of the emptied boxes which make it easy to transport to a charity shop.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. 2 scratters, hahahaha, I know it would make sense to stay here for a few years to recoup the money we have spent on the renovation... but I have always had itchy feet. I left home at 16 and did a lot of travelling only to settle down when I had my eldest. To compensate for not travelling and give the kids stability I have moved and renovated fairly local 7 times in the last 30 years. I have also renovated and since sold 2 buy to lets. I am lusting after a bungalow which has a lovely stream in the garden. To be sensible, I am riddled with arthritis and another massive garden would have to be maintained by someone else. I like the act of creating and maintaining a garden, and the subsequent forever changing things in that garden. The Estate Agent I always use is now a sort of friend and he tells me that a maintained garden can add quite a lot to the value of the house. I will wait a little while till the weather improves, get my garden in shape, paint all the out buildings and get the house valued. I am expecting it to have doubled in price since we bought it about 10 years ago. As much as I love this little cottage I doubt it will be my last home! I think we moved to this house in about 6 car loads as I had got rid of most of the furniture. Bit by bit also did a car load of plants.
Granny kate, I did just what you are doing, brought everything I liked and then waited to see where they would go in the new house. Once I was happy with the decor the rest went. There are a few things in cupboards as I do like to ring the changes, surprise surprise! It won't be long before you are on the move so making a start on packing is a good idea. I was watching an old George Clarke programme the other night and they were in Laceby. He went to the tile factory that we went to on your recommendation.
Wishing you a speedy recovery nanny w. xxxx
Flora xxx, it's horrible being unhappy at work. Is it a possibility to finish earlier as you would be leaving soon anyway?
Arkwright, is in the shop, I fully intend to get the iron out for the first time in years. I want to iron an embroidery that Mum has done and it's been folded in a drawer for years. It will be one thing off my to do list. Also an add of things coming in.
The Four seasons by candlelight was a joy, there was also a little Bach thrown in for good measure.

Thanks for your ideas @Brie and @Vulpix. I am determined not to pack anything that I know I won't use. The logistics are very complicated as we are hoping to move DS2 and DGCs to their own place at the same time. Most of what is left in my loft is DS2s. I've seen what I think is a possibility - garden at back is all paved whereas I do like some lawn. Small front lawn but think it would need to go to make off street parking for visitors. On a bus route (Morrisons bus stops opposite once an hour) - busier than I have lived for a while but think it makes more sense as I get even older. Small store 5 minutes walk away. Smaller but flexible layout.

Good morning from a damp & drizzly IoD 😔 I have my first cuppa & am about to settle down to some cheerleading. DH finally got up about 13:30 😉
daisy_1571, I have added this to my bookmarks as I didn’t want to get distracted from catching up 😅
Liverpool_Anne, Tuesday sounds like a busy day to me especially decluttering all the vegetable packs into stews 👏 I have to agree with you about purses 😊 A very personal choice 😊 The only time I have ever gifted purses was when it was a direct replacement - same brand, colour & style 😅 & only to my DM ☺️ I try not to break away from the knitting until I have knitted all 12 rows 😉 but another great place to stop is after Row 5 😉 Both have CF6 but are not exactly the same so I only have to un-knit the last 6 stitches to work out which row I am on 🥳
TC77, re the coffee pots saga - remember that you are worthy of nice items 😊 so please just dispose of the barely usable ones 🙏
Crazycatlady2, the kitchen is starting to look good 👏 - I especially like the cupboards & handles 😊
Deni_debt-free_dreamer, every bit of decluttering helps 👏 especially as it is already out of your house 🥳
oceanspirit, great work by both you & OH on Thursday 👏
Excellent decluttering keran77 👏 especially the books 🥳
Florafauna the disco sounds wonderful 😊 I can just picture you “zooming around” 😂
2Scratters good luck with your plastic count 🍀 Hopefully as you proceed with the decluttering you will notice less coming in 🤞 I do love a propelling pencil but I think I only have 5 😉 As you say a good job they take up so little space 😊
daisy_1571 the TV room looks stunning 🤩 You & MrDaisy have done such an excellent job that I am awarding you each a Gold Star ⭐️ ⭐️
Wednesday2000, what a busy Friday 😊 Some excellent decluttering & tidying 👏 Very pleased to hear that the antibiotics have worked & that you are feeling so much better 😊
Florenceem, busy as usual 👏 although I am very pleased to hear that you are managing to find time for your crafting 😊 I have been lurking on the Crafting Thread 😉 so many talented people 🤩
Liverpool_Anne a very busy Thursday 👏 Some excellent decluttering & very pleased that you managed some TLC for yourself 👏 Also quite impressed that OH managed some decluttering…. without being asked 🥳 I hope there is still some leek & potato soup in TLC Carriage 😉 As an encouragement to OH for doing some spontaneous decluttering (as well as all the batch cooking) I am awarding a medal 🏅 I trust that OH cleaned up immediately after the cooking session 😉
Excellent decluttering short_bird 👏 I am very impressed with the work you are doing on your record collection & am awarding you a medal 🏅
vulpix, sorry to hear that you are feeling unwell & hopefully your visit to the doctor has provided some answers & a way forward 🤞Thank you for the pictures 👏 you own some beautiful items & everything is so clean & shiny that the reflections make it look like you have two of everything 😊 A lovely, lovely cheerleading post 😊 especially your chat with TC77 😊 some flowers 💐 are coming your way 😊
Excellent decluttering Muddy_Walker 👏 Are you sure you didn’t kick the plug out at work 🤣😉 Sorry - I will go & stand on the naughty step 😉
I have caught up a little so will post, do a timed session of knitting & then come back to cheerleading.

Hi everyone,
I haven't been on here for ages, but I have continued in my decluttering quest. This past week or so, I have decluttered my home office area, DDs desk area, DD's wardrobes, DD's bathroom, the family bathroom and the bottom of my wardrobe!!
I am now up to 500 items out of 2024, so feel like I'm on target!18 -

Liverpool_Anne - I sort out donated stuff at SA - I keep new bits that will sell at table top sales. I bag up a lot of clothes and shoes that are not really reusable. Then there is the stuff that I am loathe to recycle so I send it to the charity shop to help them raise money. So a lot of what Mr F takes to the charity shops is not from our house. However - I never decluttered the 2 upstairs RODs and the loft so heaps here still to go.
I had a day indoors until yesterday evening when we went to SA to take in the food delivery from M & S. I had left the foyer empty on Friday morning - it was filled with black sacks of donations and 2 large suitcases. I couldn't leave it like that so sorted 15 sacks of clothes that we put in the outdoor crates for collection. We took home the 2 suitcases which will go to the charity shop this week.
Been to Church this morning and there is an afternoon meet up with local Corps.
Mr F has a nurse appointment tomorrow but will hopefully have the time for a charity shop run.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

My brother got a chat with him and was able to thank him for his local hero role as its my brothers favourite film.😲I suppose you mean Denis Lawson the actor and not Denis Law the footballer - both geniuses in their chosen field. You made me have a lovely Sunday morning chuckle.
Thanks for all the kind comments about our room. The drawers were designed to store cds or dvds. They are finally being used for this after our marathon session of decanting cds and dvds from their boxes and moved into paper envelopes. Thank you for our stars Mrs sd

@Liverpool_Anne Aha yes! We're on the same page, makes perfect sense 😁
Not sure if it counts as decluttering per se, but the room we had been using as a nursery for the kittens has now been returned to it's previous use (play room). Part of that has involved reorganising the kids stuff so that pens, paper, craft bits etc are visible/accessible and therefore likely to be used. I did chuck some old Play Do out, and used up sticker sheets.
OH has finished decluttering his office, including disposing of records way past their retention date. I can't believe they moved house with us! But never mind, it's progress.15 -
We've had a very large bag (one of those plastic check ones with handles) in the dining room and I finally disposed of it. All that was in it was a nice little cushion and a superking fitted sheet with a tear in it. I took it to a charity shop and asked if they wanted the sheet. The woman looked a bit cranky until I mentioned that it would be perfect to go in a rag bag if they had one which brightened her up. And she took the bag too.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. If you need any help on these boards, do let me know.
